Her words snapped Gavin back to the present, he finally remembered today's challenger.
Gavin realized he'd even forgotten to ask Arielle for her wager.
Gavin leveled an icy gaze at her, her expressionless mask revealing nothing.
'Isn't she the least bit worried about losing?' Gavin thought.
Gavin gave Meredith's hand a reassuring pat and shot her a confident look.
"Then, what's your wager?" Gavin asked, his gaze fixed on Arielle.
"I will leave the Bradford family and Theoria City for good." Arielle made sure Gavin heard every word. This wager was directed squarely at him.
She knew exactly what he was after.
In his eyes, she had nothing of value to wager, no money, no status.
To outsiders, she was just an unwanted Bradford girl who had stolen Meredith's place.
Everyone who cared about Meredith wanted Arielle out of the Bradford family.
That way, everything would return to Meredith as it should.
'I'm absolutely thrilled,' Meredith gloated inwardly, barely able to contain her pride.
As long as Arielle left the Bradford family and Theoria City, she'd remain the Bradford family's only heiress.
But on the surface, she maintained the gentle, worried look of a younger sister. Meredith said with feigned concern, "You can't possibly beat them. You'll lose. Why don't you just back out of the match?"
'Reverse psychology,' Meredith thought smugly.
By claiming Arielle would lose, Meredith knew her stubborn stepsister would never back down, so there was no way she'd quit the competition.
Arielle saw through her ploy. A faint smile played on her lips, but she offered no reply.
Georgie's gaze locked onto Arielle like a predator sizing up its prey.
The three quickly settled on the wager.
If Arielle lost to Georgie, she'd have to accept any terms he demanded, no exceptions.
If Arielle lost to Gavin, she would have to leave the Bradford family and Theoria City immediately, never to return.
Georgie's wager was a prime plot of land in the Golden District.
Gavin's wager was 30 million dollars.
This meant if Arielle defeated both Georgie and Gavin, she'd walk away with the Golden District land deed plus a cool 30 million.
She thought, 'How generous of Georgie. He staged this entire wager purely for Meredith.'
'I can't wait to see the look on his face when he loses.'
Gavin said coolly, "Very well. Next, we'll select the venue, ladies' choice. You decide."
"I just returned to the Bradford family and don't know Theoria City well," Arielle said, "The only place I know is Cloud Nine. How about we go there? It might be fairer."
"Fine. I must say, I'm surprised you'd think of Cloud Nine," Gavin remarked.
Both Georgie and Gavin were taken aback that she'd pick Cloud Nine of all places.
Georgie had only been to Cloud Nine twice. Most of the time, he gambled in Konis.
Cloud Nine was Theoria City's most exclusive gambling establishment, where the renowned King of Gamblers himself held court.
Only the wealthy and privileged could gain entry to play there.
"When shall we compete?" Georgie asked, playing the gentleman with his 'ladies first' courtesy, for now at least.
But once he won the match, he'ld milk it for all it was worth.
"Anytime works for me," Arielle said, feigning ignorance. "I'm not really familiar with the house rules at Cloud Nine, can we just drop by whenever?"
"Perfect timing, we can go tonight," Georgie said.
He was now certain that Arielle didn't know the first thing about gambling. She thought it was just some casual fun, didn't even know Cloud Nine's rules or hours, and yet she still thought she could beat him.
He thought, 'What a joke.'
"Alright, tonight it is," Arielle said, barely able to contain her eagerness. 'I can't wait to see their faces,' she thought to herself.
Georgie lit a cigarette, eyeing her pretty face with a devilish smirk. He couldn't wait to wrap this up.
Seeing Arielle's calm demeanor, Meredith suddenly felt a pang of unease.
Meredith thought. 'There's no way Arielle knows how to gamble. Even if she does, she's no match for Georgie. He's the top card shark in Konis, second only to the King of Gamblers, Gavin told me that himself. How could she possibly beat a pro like him?'
Just thinking about it, Meredith couldn't wait to see Arielle utterly humiliated.
'If she loses, she'll have to leave the Bradford family and Theoria City right away. Once she's out, I'll have countless ways to teach her a lesson,' Meredith thought with a vicious smile.
Meredith stifled her glee.
She looped her arms through Perla and Mya's, her face the picture of concern.
"Do you want to come watch the match with me?" she asked softly, "I'm... I'm afraid something might happen to my sister."
She whispered the last part so quietly that only the two beside her could hear.
Perla and Mya were still debating whether to go to Cloud Nine to watch the match.
After all, it was an hour-and-a-half drive away.
If they got home late, they'd get lectured again.
Hearing Meredith's words, Perla and Mya suddenly realized what was about to happen.
They exchanged a look of sudden understanding.
Perla thought, 'That's right.
'Arielle is bound to lose this match, and lose spectacularly.
'She'll be utterly humiliated.
'We definitely don't want to miss such a rare spectacle.
'Let's record her embarrassing defeat and upload it online.
'What a glorious sight that would be.'
The two exchanged knowing glances, barely able to contain their malicious laughter.
Perla and Mya exchanged knowing glances, barely able to contain their excitement. They nodded at Meredith. "Count us in," they chorused.
The entourage made their grand procession to Cloud Nine.
Before leaving, Arielle called Samson to let him know she'd be gambling at Cloud Nine that night.
She informed him about her plans for the evening.
Worried that Georgie might refuse to pay up if he lost, she asked Samson to serve as a witness.
She promised that if she won, she'd pay Samson 4 million dollars as gratitude.
After all, Samson had helped her tremendously.
With such an influential ally, she knew she had to secure his patronage and maintain this valuable connection.
Samson chuckled. "This isn't even worth calling a favor.
"I'm practically your uncle now. Let's not talk money. Don't give it a second thought. Just show up tonight, and I'll have you scheduled for the first match."
Arielle just couldn't understand the world of the rich.
'Maybe Samson really doesn't care about money. How I'd love to know what it feels like to treat money like dirt,' she thought.
An hour and a half later, they arrived at Cloud Nine.
The group stepped into the lavish gaming hall of Cloud Nine.
Thanks to Samson's prior arrangements, word had already spread throughout Cloud Nine, everyone knew there would be a gambling match tonight.
The casino manager saw Georgie, Arielle, and their group, and approached them with a professional yet welcoming smile.
"Welcome. This way, please," he said, gesturing gracefully toward the interior.
House rules must still be observed.
The host, Sierra and Desmond, was already waiting for them.
When Sierra and Desmond saw it was Arielle, they couldn't hide his surprise.
They were already mourning for her opponents.
'This is the woman who beat the King of Gamblers, and someone still dares to challenge her? They must have a death wish!' They thought.
"Mr. Lowery, Miss Bradford has arrived," Logan reported.
Samson nodded. "Just make sure she's safe. I'll handle everything else."
Logan nodded. "Yes, sir."
Arielle and her entourage were each escorted by attendants to their own private suites.
Samson had arranged for them to open tonight's games.
With her number in hand, Arielle closed her eyes to compose herself.
Meanwhile, the other private suites were buzzing with activity.
Georgie's entourage had gathered in the VIP lounge, puffing cigars and exchanging banter about everything except tonight's game.
One of Georgie's buddies said, "Mr. Tate, I've already booked the hotel. We'll head there right after this is over."
Another chimed in, "Let's celebrate with a proper feast first, gotta fuel up for what's next!" The group burst into laughter.
Georgie leaned back, crossing his legs with smug satisfaction.
A faint, self-satisfied smile played on his lips as he listened to his buddies' bold boasts.
He was already thinking to himself, 'Tonight, that beauty will be in my arms.'
