                    At the Boone family.
The head of the Boone family, Harrison Boone, stood before a prized painting on the wall, his expression grave. Across from him, Gavin hung his head low, the very picture of contrition.
Harrison sighed heavily, his back still turned. "Gavin, do you realize how much damage you've caused the Boone family this time?"
Gavin kept his head down, not daring to meet their eyes. He knew this whole mess was his fault, he'd handed over Golden District far too carelessly.
Harrison said coldly, "Do you realize you're playing with fire? You've seen how the Walter family is treating us now. And you actually trust that young man? He has no say in the Walter family affairs."
"You're right, Grandpa. I'll find a way to get that land back and make sure the Boone family doesn't suffer." Gavin clenched his fists inside his sleeves, seething with hatred for Arielle.
If Arielle hadn't dragged Golden District land into that bet, none of this would've happened.
Harrison turned around, looking at the grandson he had placed so much hope in, his heart heavy with disappointment.
He asked, "Do you have any idea how you're going to get it back? The deed has already been transferred. And don't forget about the Tate family, you need to find a way to mend that relationship. Otherwise, I'll have your father take you to Konis in person to make amends."
"Understood, Grandfather. I'll follow your arrangements in everything," Gavin replied obediently.
Harrison was pleased with his repentant attitude.
After nearly two hours of tense discussion, Gavin finally emerged from his grandfather's study.
Back in his room, Gavin was distraught. He wasn't usually the impulsive type, so he wondered what had gotten into him this time. It was like he'd had a moment of sheer madness.
Checking his phone and seeing Meredith's message, half the rage inside him instantly dissipated.
It read: [Gavin, are you still awake? If you've already fallen asleep, I hope you have the sweetest dreams tonight.]
Gavin smiled and quickly replied: [Almost. Why are you still up?]
When Meredith saw the message, she was practically bursting to share her good news with him.
But she knew she had always tried to appear gentle, kind, and sensible whenever she was with Gavin.
She was dying to tell the whole world how happy she was right now.
It was because she had discovered Arielle's secret.
She thought, 'That bitch is so disgusting.
'How dare she sleep in my room, in my bed!
'What a shameless slut!'
Just thinking that everyone would soon know all the things Arielle had done, Meredith could barely contain her glee.
Buoyed by her happiness, Meredith grew a little bolder in her chat with Gavin.
She texted: [I just can't sleep...missing you too much.] Then, she added a blowing kiss emoji.
Gavin: [Don't overthink it. You've got class tomorrow, so get some sleep now.]
[Okay, I'll be a good girl. I'll bring you breakfast tomorrow, and you're not allowed to say no!] she texted playfully.
After their chat ended, Meredith tossed and turned in bed, too excited to sleep.
Meredith thought to herself, 'Can't sleep! So excited! So happy!
'It's killing me to keep this to myself. I just have to see what that bitch is up to, probably fantasizing about some guy. Who does she think she's fooling with that ice queen act? Turns out she's just a total slut behind closed doors.
'Well, the Bradford family's precious daughter. How impressive.'
She went upstairs again to find Sharon, chattering non-stop about school gossip, but carefully avoided any mention of Arielle.
It was killing her to keep this to herself. She thought, 'Just wait till Mother finally finds out the truth tomorrow.'
They kept chatting until 11 p.m., but at Sharon's urging, Meredith had to go downstairs to bed.
The long night dragged on. Still filled with excitement, Meredith finally drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Meredith deliberately timed her entrance to the dining room to coincide with Arielle's arrival.
"Good morning, sis," she called out in an overly sweet voice, her steps deliberately light and cheerful.
Arielle calmly sat down for breakfast, ignoring Meredith.
She had no idea what had gotten into Meredith today. She thought, 'Since when do we ever share a breakfast table?'
Humming a cheerful tune, Meredith sat down across from Arielle.
Arielle's cold indifference didn't dampen Meredith's mood at all.
In fact, she thought gleefully, 'This only makes me even happier.'
"Sis, Lexi's steak and pizza are way better than any restaurant's. You have to try some," Meredith said sweetly, generously sliding a plate of steak and pizza toward Arielle.
Arielle was startled. She thought, 'If Meredith's suddenly being nice to me, something's definitely up. And whatever it is, it's bound to be bad news for me.
'It must be about yesterday when I got into a fight with Phyllis at the school gate. But that alone wouldn't make Meredith act so strangely.'
Suppressing the turmoil in her heart, Arielle pulled out a tissue to wipe her mouth, pushed back her chair, and left the dining room without another word.
Meredith's eyes darkened as she stared at her retreating figure, a sinister smile curling at the corners of her lips.
Arielle walked into the classroom.
As soon as she walked in, every eye in the room locked onto her.
She could sense contempt, scorn, disdain, and even a twisted excitement burning in their stares.
Last night, Mya anonymously posted about Arielle's past online, taking Phyllis's stories and embellishing them with vivid, graphic details to make them sound all the more real.
She exaggerated everything Phyllis had said, painting a convincing and dramatic picture.
The post went up just after midnight.
Many boys, still awake after gaming, happened to see the news as they scrolled through their phones.
With so many of Meredith's admirers at school, the rumors spread rapidly through group chats and social media.
In no time, scandalous rumors about Arielle being promiscuous shot to the top of the campus forum's trending topics.
Seeing Arielle walk into the classroom completely unfazed, Sophia, Olivia, and the others could no longer contain their glee.
As Arielle passed by, Olivia smirked and spoke up. "Raped, knocked up, had an abortion, sleeping around... What a trashy slut."
Arielle froze in her tracks, her icy gaze meeting Olivia's.
Olivia had been itching to teach Arielle a lesson for ages, but never had the chance.
'It's not like I posted those rumors online. I just repeated what everyone else was saying. How is that my fault?' she thought, refusing to admit she'd said anything wrong.
Chin jutting out defiantly, she snapped, "What are you staring at?"
The air between Arielle and Olivia crackled with tension.
Olivia was certain Arielle wouldn't dare do anything to her.
'It's not like I mentioned her name,' she thought smugly.
Arielle said coldly, "Say that again, and I'll end you."
Olivia snapped her mouth shut, though inwardly seething.
Olivia cursed inwardly, 'That bitch, how dare she threaten me?
'Just wait and see if you'll still be smiling later.'
Arielle strode to her seat and yanked the chair back violently with one hand. Its legs screeched harshly against the floor.
The whole class felt her rage.
The screech of the chair faded into a brief silence that fell over the classroom.
Eyes met across the classroom as students exchanged silent, knowing glances about the incident.
The girls in the back row, completely unbothered, took out their books and began reading.
It was as if nothing had happened.
Gossip could destroy someone in silence.
It was seen in the news all the time. Some celebrity, unable to withstand the online backlash, would commit suicide.
With just a few keystrokes, these haters online could push a young life into hell, all while reveling in their sick thrill.
The more miserable others became, the happier they were.
Cowardly, weak, and vain, they irresponsibly piled their cruelty onto others' suffering.
She'd endured enough already, she wasn't about to let their malice get to her.
But she wasn't one to take insults lying down. 'If anyone dares to trample on me, I'll make sure they regret it for life,' she thought coldly.
Justin, sitting in the front row, turned around when he saw how calm she was and said with concern, "Don't take it to heart. They just can't keep their mouths shut. Anyone with sense knows those are just rumors."
"Yeah," Arielle murmured softly.
He simply turned around, looked at Arielle, and continued to comfort her, "Looks like the girls in our class don't really like you, maybe it's just because you're too pretty and they're jealous.
"So don't let it stress you out. Once you get into college, you'll have a whole new world waiting for you."
