Madison proved shockingly self-aware for once. She instantly picked up on my insult - that I'd called her worthless in both this life and her last one. Her face flushed crimson with rage.
"Dominic," she spat, "there are plenty of women out there. Haven't you always been the type to play the field?"
When Dominic ignored her like she was invisible - same as always - Madison completely lost it. She charged forward, ready for confrontation, but the bridal shop staff intercepted her.
"Dominic, are you blind?" she shrieked. "Can't you see she's only using you?"
Pride and arrogance had always been Madison's trademarks. The mere idea that Dominic could actually love me was more than her fragile ego could handle.
I found myself wondering how she'd react if she knew Jaxon wouldn't love her either. That eventually, just like before, she'd become the laughingstock - the discarded woman. The thought brought me vicious satisfaction.
"Don't mind the crazy lady, baby. Let's take our photos." Dominic didn't even glance Madison's way.
Love is like tending a garden. With time and care, what you nurture grows more precious. Under Dominic's devotion, I'd blossomed - my complexion glowing, skin flawless. Draped in that luxurious wedding gown, I looked like some celestial being.
"You're breathtaking, baby. Smile for me. Come here, give me a kiss." Dominic matched me in beauty, his burning gaze never leaving me as he showered me with sweet nothings.
The shop staff whispered behind their hands, equal parts jealous and awed.
"Who knew Mr. Montgomery would be such a doting husband?"
"Right? He's been in here constantly rushing the fittings - like he can't wait to marry her."
"Do you think Mrs. Montgomery saved the world in a past life? How else did she land him?"
Madison overheard and nearly exploded. "Her? Save the world? In her past life she was just a—" She choked back the rest when she saw Dominic leaning in to kiss me again.
Fuming, she called Jaxon, demanding an extravagant wedding. I didn't catch his response, but Madison wasn't watching her step - literally.
"Aah!" Her scream echoed as she tumbled down the stairs, white dress blooming with blood. The call was still connected.
"Jaxon, help me!" She clutched her stomach. "Save our... baby!" The line went dead before she finished.
Bystanders froze, unsure whether to intervene. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, Madison's pleading eyes met mine, begging me to take her to the hospital.
I remembered the child I'd lost with my own life last time...
"Darling," I pouted, winding my arms around Dominic's neck to block his view, "isn't your office upstairs? Carry me?"
Dominic's kiss was his answer. "Anything." His eyes darkened with desire as he swept me upstairs. Nestled in his arms, I flashed Madison a smile.
Why would I save her? That child of hers had taken mine last time.
Two hours later, Thomas called, furious. "Charlotte! Madison was pregnant!"
I blinked innocently. "I'm not the father. How would I know?"
"You—" Thomas struggled to control his breathing. "She miscarried. Get here now."
If I didn't clear this up, Madison would blame me forever.
At the hospital, I arrived just in time to hear Jaxon's mother, Megan Bennett, berating Madison.
"It was Charlotte's fault!" Madison sobbed.
Megan - never one for subtlety - slapped her. "Stop crying! If not for you, my son would still have his stable job! Now he's doing those ridiculous livestreams because of your empty promises!" She turned on Jaxon. "If you'd married the real Clark heir instead of this fraud, would we be in this mess?"
Madison spotted me in the doorway and lunged. "Murderer! You killed my baby!"
I remained calm. "Good thing I brought the security footage." The video clearly showed Madison's own carelessness caused the fall.
Jaxon stayed silent - his usual cowardly neutrality.
I gave him an icy look. "Control your wife." As I turned to leave, Megan noticed my designer outfit and massive diamond.
"Charlotte dear," she simpered, grabbing my arm, "we're family! Could you help with the medical bills?"
I shook her off, smirking at Madison. "So this is how broke you've become?"
