For five years, I bent over backward to win over my in-laws. Their approval finally secured me a place as the wife of their precious only son—a spoiled rich boy who'd never worked a day in his life.
But I wasn't just his mate. Through sheer grit, I clawed my way up to become Beta of the Silverfang Pack. For a while, life was good.
Then, at the pack's victory banquet, he strutted in hand-in-hand with Olivia Rivers—his pregnant high school sweetheart—flaunting her like some prized trophy.
"Marrying you was a compromise," he spat, voice thick with disgust. "An Omega like you was never fit to lead. Olivia's carrying my heir—the future of Silverfang. You? You were just a warm body in my bed. Get out before you embarrass yourself further."
I scanned the room. Pack members shifted uncomfortably, eyes darting away when mine met theirs. Pathetic.
With a slow exhale, I straightened. "You don't get to dismiss me. Here's your last chance: end things with her, and maybe—just maybe—we'll call this a marital rough patch."
The crowd erupted in mocking laughter.
"Delusional!" someone snorted.
"Who does she think she is? A nobody Omega without the pack's protection," another sneered.
Ethan's smirk didn't waver. "Face it, Elena. Without me, you're nothing."
Memories of whispered promises and tangled sheets flashed behind my eyes, sharp as broken glass. Three years. Three years of building this pack from the ground up while he partied and slept around.
My lips curled. "Funny. Last I checked, Silverfang was a backwater territory before I took charge. That billion-dollar deal funding your little party? Mine. Every expansion, every alliance—built by my hands. And you think you can just… discard me?"
The murmurs shifted.
Olivia bristled, nails digging into Ethan's arm. "Talent means nothing when you're trash-born," she hissed. "Know your place—scurry off like the stray you are."
Ethan tossed a check at my feet. "$100k. Take it and disappear."
I stared at the paper, then at him, and laughed—hard. "You cheap bastard. That wouldn't cover the interest on what you owe me."
His jaw tightened. "We never completed the bonding ritual. Legally, you're entitled to nothing."
"Legally." I repeated, savoring the word. "Oh, Ethan. You really shouldn't have said that."
The room held its breath.
For the first time, doubt flickered in his eyes.
