"You're right about one thing!" Olivia laughed, her voice dripping with smug satisfaction. "Ethan loves me—deeply. He's already promised our first pup will take my last name. That's the difference between being cherished and being thrown away. You've spent years groveling at his feet, and yet, you're not even worth a single strand of my hair."
The guests around them snickered, as if she'd just delivered the punchline to some cruel joke.
"Elena still thinks she's one of us? Clinging to the Alpha family like some desperate parasite, expecting the pup to carry the father's name?"
One of the onlookers chimed in, "The Silverfang Pack and the Nightfall Pack are strong allies. Their heirs are a perfect match. The pup's surname doesn't matter."
Another added, "There's only one Alpha heir, and Ethan's word is final."
Ethan shot me a look of pure contempt, his voice icy. "Elena, stop embarrassing yourself. We're done. From now on, Olivia takes your place as the Silverfang Pack's beta."
I let out a sharp, humorless laugh, the sound cutting through the room like a blade. "I've already told you—you don't have the right to strip me of my position."
The moment the words left my mouth, the room erupted in hushed whispers and stifled giggles. People pointed, murmuring in disbelief, as if I'd just said the most absurd thing imaginable.
Olivia sneered, oozing disdain. "Stop the act, you pathetic omega. You've crossed the Alpha family. Not only have you lost your power, but no one in this pack will even look at you now. Your time here is over."
The crowd shook their heads, clicking their tongues in mock sympathy. Whispers spread—how I could've walked away with dignity and a generous payout, but now? I had nothing. I'd ruined my own future.
But I didn't flinch. I stood taller, spine straight, radiating defiance.
My gaze swept across the room, locking onto every face present.
"Tell me," I challenged, voice steady. "Do any of you truly believe I deserve to be cast out?"
These weren't strangers—they were long-time allies, partners who'd built trust with the Silverfang Pack. Ethan had always been nothing more than the spoiled Alpha heir, living off luxury while his father handled the pack's affairs. But when responsibility was passed down? It fell to me.
Half these people barely recognized Ethan, but they knew me. Some of their businesses had once survived because of me. I'd seen potential where others saw ruin, extended a lifeline when they needed it most, forged alliances that pulled them back from the edge.
One of them had once told me, tears in his eyes, "You're like a second mother to me."
Others had underestimated me at first, assuming I was just some omega climbing the ranks through marriage. But after years of collaboration, they had no choice but to admit my worth. Many had even become my closest allies.
And those who'd once bent over backward to win my favor? Too many to count.
Yet now, those same faces either avoided my gaze or met it with open scorn.
"Elena, don't look at me like that," one sneered. "If you'd just left quietly, maybe I'd have thrown you a bone out of respect."
"Your skills are impressive, but you're too arrogant," another spat. "There's no shortage of talent here, and none of us are stupid enough to cross the Alpha family. Did you really think I'd stand with you? Who the hell do you think you are?"
"You're finished in this pack," a third jeered. "Next time, try a little humility—or find another man to leech off. Seems like that's your real talent, huh?"
The banquet hall erupted in cruel laughter, sharp and unrelenting.
The very people who'd once revered me were now taking turns kicking me while I was down.
It reminded me of my father-in-law's warning when I first took over the pack's business: "In calm winds, everyone seems loyal. But when the storm hits? That's when you see their true faces."
Now, staring at these greedy, two-faced sycophants, I finally understood.
Surrender? That was never my way.
I lifted my chin, my cold gaze sweeping over them. One by one, they faltered under the weight of it. My voice was low, steady, unshaken.
"Let me make one thing clear—none of you have the right to strip me of my power."
"You useless parasite!" Olivia finally snapped, her composure shattering. "Are you planning to cling to us forever?" Her teeth ground together as she spat, "Ethan already threw you out! This is high society now, and you? You're nothing but an omega!"
