I tuned out her tirade like the yapping of a stray mutt—nothing more than background noise. With effortless grace, I swirled my champagne, taking a slow, deliberate sip as if the whole scene bored me.
My calm must have been unnerving. The room's jeering laughter died down, replaced by uneasy glances. Their smirks faltered, uncertainty flickering in their eyes like they were waiting for the other shoe to drop. No one dared make a move to throw me out—not yet.
But Ethan? Oh, he wasn't having it. His glare burned with irritation, his fingers twitching like he wanted to drag me out himself. Then—his face lit up like a kid who'd just spotted the cookie jar.
"Dad! Mom! You're finally here!" he called, oozing smug satisfaction. He threw an arm around his father's shoulders, grinning at me like he'd already won. "Elena, you said no one here could kick you out? Well, my dad definitely can."
He wasn't wrong. As Alpha, his father held the power to strip me of my rank in a heartbeat.
"Dad, I know you like her," Ethan pressed, "but she's insufferable. The only woman I care about is Olivia—she's carrying my pup. Just let me be with her."
Olivia, ever the opportunist, dropped her usual arrogance and curtsied sweetly. "Alpha, Luna, good evening."
The Alpha's jaw clenched. He'd never liked her—especially after she'd rejected Ethan once before. But now, with her belly round with his grandchild? He swallowed his disgust.
Luna hesitated. "Are you really… pregnant? How are you feeling?"
Olivia clutched her stomach dramatically. "I was fine… until Elena upset me. Now I feel awful."
A ripple of irritation crossed the Alpha's face. The room's mood shifted instantly—any doubt about me vanished. Their stares turned venomous, sharp enough to draw blood.
Ethan smirked, victory gleaming in his eyes. "Mom, Dad, I want to sever my mate bond with Elena. If you want a doormat, she's your girl. But Olivia? She's the one."
I couldn't help it—a cold laugh escaped me. "Olivia, enjoy it while it lasts," I said, my voice dripping with indifference.
Before his parents could speak, I cut in, locking eyes with them. "Are you really willing to chain me to someone this conniving for life?"
Ethan stiffened. "You lived for their approval! Now you're backing out?"
My voice turned to ice. "Mom, Dad—can you stand seeing me trapped with her? Give me a way out."
Olivia pounced. "Uncle, Aunt, you wouldn't want your grandpup born illegitimate, would you? Once they divorce, Ethan and I will marry immediately."
The Alpha and Luna exchanged a heavy look. Finally, the Alpha sighed. "Some things… can't be forced. Do what you must, Ethan."
Relief flooded Ethan's face. Within seconds, divorce papers were shoved into my hands.
"You could've left with something," he sneered. "But now? You get nothing. No money, no ties to the pack—nothing."
The room erupted in cruel laughter.
I didn't flinch. My pen moved smoothly across the paper—steady, final.
"Now you'll see where my real confidence comes from," I said, my voice clear as steel.
The moment the pen left the page?
My heart was still.
