Liam POV
My mate wakes up the next morning, looking more rested than I have ever seen her. She blinks up at me drowsily, and I can’t help but move closer to her, my eyes resting on her beautiful face before I lean down and kiss her lovingly. She smiles before a strange expression comes over her face, and she bolts out of bed, rushing to the bathroom. I wait a moment and then join her, quickly moving her hair out of her way as she proceeds to vomit up her stomach contents. I frowned, concerned for my mate. I'm not used to her looking so unwell, and I am worried for her sake. It was rare for a werewolf to get sick, but then again, I had no experience with white wolves and any sickness they might get. Were they different from other wolves?
“Maybe we should have a doctor look over you,” I murmured as she knelt by the toilet, her chest heaving up and down as she waited to ensure she would not be sick again.
I rubbed soothing circles on her back, feeling slightly helpless. It was not a nice feeling.
She shakes her head as I let go of her hair. She stands up and moves to the basin, beginning to brush her teeth and then washing her face. Afterwards, she looks slightly better, but not by much, if I'm being honest.
“I don’t need it. It’s probably stress with everything that’s going on. I’ll be fine,” she said as I studied her closely.
I had a feeling she might be lying to me but had no idea what that might gain her. I sigh and then observe her some more.
Despite being well-rested, I am feeling reluctant but also not knowing how else to help her. “How about we try getting some food in you and take it from there. Don’t forget that your father's pack is going to be arriving in the next few days, and I want to ensure that you are up for it.”
It was going to be a long transition, and it would take hours to ensure that every pack member was accommodated. I had no doubts her fathers would stick to their words, and we were in constant communication,n although Fiona did not know it.
She shoots me a cryptic glance. “Don’t worry, I’ll be up for it. I’m not going to forget about that,” she whispered.
I knew she wouldn’t. I might not have expressed it to her, but I was proud of how far she had come and how far she had grown while with me. She was no longer the shy, awkward woman I had first met, and now she was stronger than I could have ever imagined. I was proud to have such a Luna by my side. My pack was lucky to have her. She was nothing like Celeste, and I could only thank God for that. She was better than any woman I knew, and I would never have eyes for anybody but her. She was my one and only. My other half and the other part of my soul. My wolf and I were absolutely smitten with her.
We both get dressed and then head downstairs for breakfast. I sat next to her as was the norm, and the omegas brought us our plates. I was surprised when Fiona opted not to have the coffee she normally relied on in order to wake up and face the day. She was like a beast without coffee, and that was putting it mildly. She sighed and wrinkled her nose, sniffing the cup experimentally. There was a look of revulsion on her face. She usually loved her coffee so she was acting quite strange to me.
“I think it’s off,” she said, reluctantly putting it aside.
Off? The omegas were generally pretty good about ensuring the quality of the food when they brought it in. Had they accidentally made some sort of mistake?
I sniffed mine, experimentally, but it seemed to be fine. I figured they might have used old milk in Fiona’s cup and offered her mine to drink from instead. At least I could cope without my morning cup of joe. She shook her head, surprising me again.
“I don’t feel like it" she whispered, not meeting my eyes.
If she was sick, then coffee would only upset her stomach, I concluded, taking the cup back and beginning to sip on it.
The eggs were aromatic and delicious. I savored mine while Fiona practically devoured hers. I raised a brow. “Hungry?” I asked jokingly.
She acted as though she hadn't eaten in days. I would have thought she would be picking at her food due to her sickness, but she ate everything on her plate and even picked at mine.
Strange. Sh,e however, nodded sheepishly. “With everything going on back at my old pack, I didn’t eat much. I guess I’m starving,” she chuckled, placing a hand against her stomach as I laughed at her.
“Speaking of which, I have a surprise for you,” I told her, leaning back against my chair, “when you’re ready, that is.”
“I love surprises,” she grinned and then narrowed her eyes, “so long as it’s not to do with rejecting me, that is.”
I would never even entertain the thought of that. We were marked, mated, and more in love with each other by the day. The thought of rejecting her made me sick to my own stomach.
I laughed. “There is nothing on god’s green earth that would ever make me reject you. I love you too much,” I told her, and her eyes grew misty as she regarded me.
“I love you too,” she breathed before getting promptly to her feet and tugging at me. “I want to see the surprise,” she pleaded.
She was like a child at Christmastime and it was difficult to resist her. She was so adorable.
I got up and motioned for her to follow me. We trudged in silence outside, and Fiona breathed in the deep air, enjoying the slight breeze that wafted towards us and the warmth of the sun that was on our back. It was a beautiful day and the perfect time to uncover what I had been organizing behind the scenes. I just hoped she enjoyed it. Maybe enjoyed it was the wrong world I thought frowning to myself but perhaps it would at least be appreciated. I knew how much this would mean to her. It had cost a small fortune to get it done in such a short amount of time, but the money had been well worth it, at least in my mind. I would have spent millions if it meant making Fiona happy but she was not a material kind of woman.
“Why are we walking into the forest?” Fiona mused, turning to me suspiciously.
I gave her a cryptic look. “You’ll see. We’re going to the waterfall, the one you love so much,” I divulged and saw a look of keenness come across her face.
The waterfall was Fiona’s sanctuary and the place she often went to think. I had guards keep a close eye on her at all times, but I wanted her to have a space that she could go to. Where she was able to spend a few hours alone with her thoughts and to just be enveloped in peace. It was her regular haunt and one that I would never let any of the other pack members go near whenever she was gone. I wanted her to have her space whenever she felt as though she needed it. I didn't want her to feel as though she was trapped or in some sort of prison. This was her home. Our home, I amended in my mind.
“I wish you would tell me,” Fiona complained as I continued to chuckle and shake my head at her.
I didn't want to ruin the surprise. I wanted her to be able to see it with her own eyes.
I had missed this, missed personal time with my mate. We had been so busy lately that there hadn’t been much time for it. We made it to the waterfall, and Fiona’s eyes immediately went to it. I smiled to myself. Behind the waterfall was a cave, a large cavern that had now been fortified to keep itself from crumbling. But it was what in front of the waterfall, where it plunged into a lake, that I wanted Fiona to come and see. I gently took her hand and led her to the special spot and immediately as she took in what I had done, tears came to her eyes and she put a hand to her mouth, turning to me in shock. It was worth it just to see that look come across her face.
"When?" she stammered and then sank to her knees, tears flowing down her face.
