At these words, Caleb, standing nearby, was at a loss for how to respond and could only remain silent.
Jaxon handed the phone back to Caleb. "Contact her immediately and have my pendant delivered."
Caleb nodded quickly. "Got it."
After Jaxon left, Caleb quickly opened his messaging app and sent a text to Hazel.
Sally's phone, set aside on the table, lit up with a text message alert. She immediately recognized the distinct tone. It was from her secondary SIM card.
After seeing off the patient, Sally picked up her phone. When she read the text, she froze for a moment.
It was from Caleb. [Hazel, I saw your video on TikTok and was wondering if you have some time lately. Would you be available to help Mr. Zale repair his pendant?]
'What's bound to happen will happen—there's no escaping it,' Sally thought.
But if, after the deal, they discovered the payment account was hers, her identity would be exposed.
At this critical moment, she didn't want them knowing too much about her. Yet if she refused the money, it would only raise more suspicion.
Especially, with how meticulous Jaxon was, if she repaired the crystalware for him without taking payment, he would definitely look into it.
After much thought, Sally realized, 'I've got the perfect bargaining chip for this exchange.'
She quickly typed out a message on her phone and hit send to Caleb. She also attached an MMS photo along with the text.
At that moment, in the CEO's office at Crownstone Group, Caleb walked in with his phone, wearing an unusually grave expression.
Jaxon glanced up at him, his tone cool. "What's with that look? Is she still unavailable to restore it?"
"She replied to my text, Mr. Zale." Caleb hesitated slightly. "This is really beyond my pay grade. Perhaps you should take a look yourself?"
Jaxon noticed the look on Caleb's face, and his own expression darkened.
Caleb handed him the phone, and Jaxon read the message on the screen.
Hazel: [I can help Mr. Zale restore the crystalware pendant. I don't want any payment—just help me get this set of crystal hairpins back.]
[Right now, the hairpins are with the famous actress, Lena. I've heard she'll be bringing them on an antique appraisal show in a couple of days. If you agree to help me retrieve them, we have a deal.]
There was also a photo attached below the message. When Jaxon saw the crystal hairpins, his brows relaxed a little.
He didn't know much about crystal hairpins, but even at a glance, he could tell that the pair in the photo were rare treasures—undoubtedly crafted from top-quality crystal.
"Mr. Zale, I just looked into it. Lena's schedule has been released, and she really is set to appear on an antique appraisal show in a few days. Once the crystal hairpins are on the show, retrieving them won't be easy," said Caleb.
Caleb paused, then continued, "Should we ask Hazel about the story behind these crystal hairpins? Otherwise, how can we help her get them back?"
Jaxon set the phone down. "I'll take it from here with her. Just agree to whatever she asks."
"Mr. Zale, are you really going to partner with her?" Caleb looked at him in utter disbelief, shock written all over his face.
"Yes." His voice was deep, his face expressionless.
"Understood. I'll reply to Hazel right away," said Caleb.
Caleb had barely taken two steps when Jaxon called out behind him, "How's Dad doing lately? Has Sally been by for his check-ups?"
"I heard his condition has improved significantly. Mrs. Zale goes regularly for his check-ups, and as it happens, tomorrow evening is her next visit to him," said Caleb.
Jaxon nodded thoughtfully. "Alright, I got it. You may go now," he said.
Caleb gave a slight nod and walked out.
In the evening, Abigail had finished cooking and was waiting for Sally to come home.
"It smells amazing. What's for dinner tonight?" As soon as Sally stepped inside, she was greeted by the faint scent of the dishes.
"Sally, Abigail made eggplant for us tonight." Hearing the commotion at the door, Lillian came running, hugged Sally's leg, and beamed up at her.
"Wow, is it your favorite eggplant?" exclaimed Sally.
"Yes," she nodded happily as she said.
Abigail called out to Sally, "Perfect timing. The soup's ready. Let's eat."
"Okay," Sally said.
As dinner was winding down, Lillian finished her meal and went out to the balcony to play with her toys.
Sally and Abigail started talking about the promise to repair Jaxon's crystalware pendant.
Abigail hesitated, then said, "If you agreed to help him, won't it be a hassle to collect payment later? One slip and you could expose your identity as Hazel," said Abigail.
"I'm not planning to take his money," Sally replied. "I want him to help me get back that set of crystal hairpins, and he agreed."
Abigail blinked. "Crystal hairpins? Which ones?"
"The crystal hairpins Finn gave me as a wedding gift," Sally explained softly.
She had always kept those hairpins locked away in her cabinet. Even Brad never knew they were part of her wedding gifts, an irreplaceable heirloom.
In the fourth year of their marriage, Brad opened an antique chain store and set his sights on Sally's hairpins, wanting them as the flagship piece for his shop. Later, he told Sally they'd been stolen.
It wasn't until right before she went to prison that Sally learned the theft was just a cover. Lena had coveted the hairpins, so Brad gave them away and lied that they'd gone missing.
That loss haunted her for years.
Though the hairpins were officially a gift from her senior brother, Finn, her grandpa had actually helped craft them, using old crystalware he'd treasured for decades. They were truly an irreplaceable family treasure.
"If I remember correctly, those crystal hairpins are currently with Lena, and she's about to showcase them on an antique appraisal show." Abigail frowned slightly. "How could Jaxon possibly get them back from her?"
Sally's lips curled into a calm smile. "I trust Jaxon. With his abilities, he'll definitely help me get the crystal hairpins back."
Abigail watched her in silence.
"Even if he can't get them back himself, I'm sure he'll devise a strategy for me. So just sit back and watch the show." Sally's tone was icy, her expression unreadable.
Abigail nodded lightly. "Now I'm really curious to see what a clever man like him will come up with for you." Her smile widened.
Suddenly, the phone on the table rang. When Sally saw the name on the screen, her hand holding the fork froze mid-air for a second.
Jaxon handed the phone back to Caleb. "Contact her immediately and have my pendant delivered."
