So it had really been quite some time. Finn had practically watched Sally grow up and always treated her like a younger sister.
He looked at her with doting affection as if she were still a child.
"Come on, let's head back—I'll show you the crystal. Then tonight, I'll take you out to dinner. There's a brand new food market nearby that I think you'll really like..."
Finn walked side by side with Sally as he gently patted Sally's shoulder, his expression incredibly tender.
Sally nodded. "Alright, Finny, I'll follow your lead."
Finn still lived in the same villa that had once belonged to Blake.
The doorplate reading Woodland Estate at the entrance looked just as familiar to Sally as ever.
"I've got the bedroom next to mine all ready for you," Finn said. "You can sleep there—it has a balcony, and with this beautiful weather, you might even catch some stars tonight."
His words instantly transported Sally back to the past.
Memories came flooding back all at once. Thinking of Blake, a lump formed in her throat, and her eyes began to sting.
Finn seemed to notice something was off with her emotions. Instinctively, he gently patted her shoulder.
"Alright now, don't dwell on the past. Let's go inside," he said gently.
Sally nodded and followed him inside.
Little did they know, every move they made had already been clearly captured by a phone not far away.
Sally couldn't help smiling as she examined the crystal. "This is exactly what I wanted! I knew you'd have it, Finn."
Leaning against the table, Finn shot her a curious look. "So, what are you planning to fix with this crystal? Did you really come all this way just for it? Is it something for Brad?"
At the mention of Brad, Sally neatly shook her head.
Then she responded softly, "Brad and I are already going through divorce proceedings."
Back when Sally was sent to prison, Finn knew all about it. He pulled every string possible to bail her out, but to no avail. All these years, he hadn't even been able to see her once.
"I know you were framed, Sal. If you want a divorce, I'm fully behind you..." Finn said with an encouraging smile.
His gaze softened with aching concern.
"Thanks, Finny." Sally returned a smile.
"After all, we're family," Finn chuckled. "I'll cook lunch for you at home, and tonight, let's go check out the food market."
"Okay," Sally nodded. "It's been ages since I last had your cooking."
"Then for lunch today, I'll make all your favorites," Finn cheered.
As evening drew near, Jaxon finally wrapped up his workday.
His Maybach pulled up in front of a luxury hotel in Freymoor. Just as he stepped out, Caleb called out, "Mr. Zale, we've received news about Mrs. Zale."
Jaxon froze in his tracks as he stepped into the hotel lobby.
He turned back and asked, "Who did she meet?"
Caleb raised his gaze, his eyes slightly evasive as he looked at Jaxon. "A man..."
This made Jaxon's face darken instantly as he stared in disbelief. "A man?"
Caleb hesitated, venturing. "There are photos, Mr. Zale. Would you like to take a look?"
Jaxon demanded, "Show me."
His eyes turned ice-cold, and his grip on the phone tightened uncontrollably as he scanned through them.
The photos showed a man dressed in decent attire gently patting Sally on the shoulder, gazing at her with unmistakable tenderness.
This guy wasn't just handsome—his looks and physique were exceptional, almost rivaling Jaxon's own.
Jaxon immediately associated the "important thing" Sally mentioned with it. To his astonishment, they were intimate in loans of photos.
He saw them embracing at the bullet train station entrance, the man caressing Sally's head, and the two of them standing together at the villa entrance...
So many photos indicated they might be in a relationship.
"Who the hell is this guy?"
Jaxon growled, shooting Caleb a dark, icy glare.
Caleb muttered, "We haven't identified him yet, but our informant reports that their relationship appears unusually close. The terms of address are quite intimate—Mrs. Zale calls him "Finny", and he calls Mrs. Zale..."
Caleb felt a bit embarrassed to say it out loud.
A chilling glint flashed in the sharp corners of Jaxon's eyes, making his gaze truly terrifying.
His voice rose sharply. "Out with it!"
Caleb hesitated, gritted his teeth, then forced out, "Sally-Bear..."
"Sally-Bear?" Jaxon repeated, his voice tight with disbelief and simmering jealousy.
His hands clenched into tight fists.
Back when that male doctor at the clinic, Carlos, called her "Sal," Jaxon had already thought that was way too intimate. Now it was totally intolerable for him.
"Mr. Zale, they seem to have gone to the nearby food market—probably grabbing a bite," Caleb reported.
Jaxon snapped without hesitation, "Turn the car around. We're heading straight to that food market—now."
After they'd slept together, he had asked Sally to be with him, but she just kept hemming and hawing, never giving him a straight answer.
'So she's got someone else on the side?' Jaxon thought, a surge of jealousy rising within him.
As dusk settled in, a crisp early autumn breeze swept through, sending the ends of Sally's long hair dancing.
Once the Maybach stopped at the entrance to the food market, Jaxon spotted the two figures standing outside a store.
From his perspective, Sally looked so gorgeous that it was almost unreal.
She was standing at the entrance, pastry box in hand, chatting with Finn and grinning from ear to ear.
Just then, a shadowy figure began edging closer toward her from the darkness.
The man wore a black cap and mask, concealing a combat knife against his phone, its sharp tip just barely visible. Jaxon spotted it instantly.
The man's gaze locked onto Sally's abdomen.
Meanwhile, Sally was so engrossed in chatting with Finn that she was completely oblivious to this detail.
Caleb noticed it too. As he looked back over his shoulder, he was shocked to find Jaxon had already flung open the rear car door.
Jaxon dashed straight toward Sally with all his strength.
Completely unaware of the danger, Sally vaguely sensed someone rushing toward her.
Before she could even react, her wrist was suddenly yanked from beside her.
The next moment, she was yanked into a familiar set of arms.
The embrace, along with the cool, subtle scent that filled her senses, instantly reminded her of Jaxon's.
At that very moment, Caleb delivered a brutal kick, sending the black-clad man with the black cap crashing to the ground.
The man crumpled to the ground in an instant.
The knife hit the ground with a harsh, metallic clatter.
Sally stared in disbelief at the scene, then whipped her head around to look at the man beside her.
Jaxon was gripping her wrist with one hand, his other arm locking tightly around her waist, pulling her close as if afraid she might slip away.
He looked down at her in silence, his gaze unreadable.
Sally's eyes widened in shock as she blurted out, "Jaxon, what are you doing here?"
Before Jaxon could respond, Finn cut in urgently, "Sally-Bear, are you okay?"
He looked at her with doting affection as if she were still a child.
