"What did you say?" Brad stared at Sally in disbelief. "Lena tried to have you killed? How is that possible? Don't make wild accusations..."
"If you really think I'm spouting nonsense, go ask her yourself. But with her personality, she'll never admit it. In fact, she'll probably turn the tables and accuse me of framing her." A smirk tugged at the corner of Sally's lips.
"Lena has always been such a kind girl. How could she possibly do something like that? Honestly, it sounds a lot more like you're the one slandering her." Brad's face darkened with growing anger, his brows knitting tighter by the second.
"I knew you'd take her side. I really regret not properly recording our confrontation. Then you could've heard what really happened." Regret clouded Sally's eyes.
Brad remained firmly on Lena's side. "Look, the hairpin incident was really my fault. It had little to do with Lena. She's already paid dearly for it, so just drop it, okay?"
"You should tell Miss Yasmin. If she stops stabbing me in the back, I won't press on it." Sally's voice dropped to a deadly calm as she glared at him, eyes blazing with barely controlled fury.
Just then, an enraged voice suddenly rang out from the doorway. Abigail snapped, "Has that bastard Brad come again?"
Sally's back went rigid for a split second. It was Abigail.
"They're inside," Carlos responded.
Brad strode to the door and flung it open, only to see Abigail storming in, her face flushed with anger.
"What did you just call me? A bastard?" Brad's brows knitted, his eyes blazing with fury.
"Why are you here? Who sent you? You stole the crystal hairpin from Sally for Lena, and Lena still stabbed her in the back! Tell me. Don't I have every right to scold you?" Abigail rolled up her sleeves, hands on hips, and scolded Brad.
Brad's frown deepened. "Abigail, watch your mouth! What's this nonsense about stealing?"
"Didn't you?" Abigail looked up at him with a sneer. "You lied to Sally that the crystal hairpin was missing and then gave it to Lena. If that's not stealing, what is? Sure, it sounds better than open theft, but it's still stealing!"
"You..." Brad was fuming, jabbing a finger at Abigail, at a loss for words.
Abigail shot back, "What? Are you going to hit me just because you can't win the argument?"
At that moment, Carlos swiftly pulled Abigail behind him. That dashing stance momentarily stunned Abigail.
Sally watched silently from the side.
"What's it to you?" Brad shot Carlos a dark glare, his voice rising sharply as he snapped.
Carlos said firmly, "Touch her, and you go through me first!"
Watching Carlos stand up to Brad, Sally couldn't help but smile.
Sally couldn't help but think, 'Carlos is so protective of Abigail. He must be into her.'
"Look at your so-called friends. They're all toxic!" Brad shot Sally a furious, icy glare, his eyes filled with cold contempt.
With that, he turned around and stormed straight for the door.
Hearing this, Abigail exploded with rage. "You're the toxic one! Your whole damn family is just as bad!"
Brad was already out the door.
"You can insult him, but do you really have to drag his whole family into this? Sally hasn't even divorced him yet! Isn't that going too far?" Carlos gently tugged at Abigail's arm and whispered a reminder.
Abigail jerked her arm free from Carlos's grasp and glared at him. "Yeah, they're not divorced, but Sally has been out of that house for ages! Keep running your mouth and I'll curse you out too..."
Carlos looked at Sally with an innocent face and said, "Sally, aren't you going to rein her in? She's getting feistier. Who could possibly put up with that temper later on?"
"It doesn't matter. As long as you can put up with her," Sally said with a teasing smile.
Abigail and Carlos exchanged a fleeting glance and then hastily averted their gazes.
"Cut it out, Sally." Abigail quickly strode forward and shut the lounge door firmly.
Sally frowned slightly and asked, "What brings you here all of a sudden?"
"I had an interview nearby and saw Brad's car, so I came in to check." Abigail was still fuming, her chest heaving with anger.
"Alright, don't be mad." Sally reached out and gently patted her arm. "Anger will make you look ugly. How are you ever going to match up with a hunk like Carlos if you keep this up?"
"Sally, you tease me again!" Abigail shot Sally a glare, her brows furrowing as she lowered her voice.
"I'm not teasing you, Abigail. Carlos totally has a thing for you. He's tall, handsome, and super ambitious. He's just working here for now, but trust me. He's got what it takes to land a position at a top-tier city hospital someday. He's more than capable of it."
Abigail said, "Come on. If you said you were going to be a top specialist at a major hospital, I might actually buy it. But him? Not a chance..."
Sally waved her off and suddenly fell silent.
After Abigail left, new patients began arriving at the clinic.
As soon as Sally sat down to see patients, they began streaming in one after another, keeping her busy well into the evening before she finally wrapped up her shift.
It was already 7 p.m. when Sally got home.
After taking care of Lillian, Sally immediately headed up to the attic and resumed restoring the Madonna Locket without a break.
Today was her first day restoring the Madonna Locket, and the work proved far more challenging than she'd expected. Even past 10 p.m., she'd only managed to make minimal progress.
"Where's Sally?" Just as Sally was deeply focused on restoring the Madonna Locket, she suddenly heard a familiar voice from downstairs.
Her hand holding the restoration tool froze for a split second.
Sally thought, startled, 'Jaxon is here? What on earth is he doing here at this hour?'
Abigail called out urgently from downstairs, "Wait, Mr. Zale. Sally is busy on the third floor. Don't go up there."
Hearing the commotion, Sally sprang up from her chair. She swiftly stashed the Madonna Locket at the very bottom of the drawer, scanned the room to make sure she'd left no trace behind, and only then untied her apron.
The footsteps drew closer. Moments later, Jaxon stood in the attic doorway.
Sally looked up and locked eyes with Jaxon.
"What are you doing here?" Anxious, Sally busied herself with tidying up the attic, pretending everything was normal.
Jaxon's face darkened as he shut the attic door and strode toward her. "Why did you turn off your phone?"
Sally's hand, still holding the cleaning cloth, froze for a split second.
When restoring crystalware, Sally disliked being interrupted, so she'd developed the habit of turning off her phone.
'So he came all the way here because he couldn't reach me?' Sally thought, suddenly realizing the reason.
