Sally thought, 'I can take the slander against me, but if Finn's reputation gets tarnished because of me, that's a responsibility I couldn't bear. After all, he's going to get married someday. I can't let Brad ruin his good name for life.'
"Me, spouting nonsense? Why don't you take a good look at yourself and see what you've done? You're already shacking up with him. And you still have the nerve to call me spouting nonsense?" Brad snapped.
His voice climbed a notch, his eyes darkening with intensifying rage.
"Lillian, go upstairs first." Before Sally could respond, a familiar voice sounded behind her.
Sally turned to see Lillian heading upstairs, with Finn standing at the foot of the stairs, watching her go step by step.
Finn waited until Lillian had disappeared into her room before finally walking over to the living room.
He approached Brad with a dark expression, staring him down. "What exactly are you implying, Mr. Zale? Are you accusing me of having something going on with Sally?"
Sally turned to look at Finn beside her. She had never seen such fury on his face before.
"At my grandpa's birthday party, Sally slept with a man. Was it you?" Brad suddenly stepped in closer, getting right in Finn's face.
As soon as those words left his mouth, Sally felt her heart leap into her throat. She hadn't expected this bastard to bring this up now.
Finn's brows involuntarily furrowed as he instinctively turned to Sally beside him. His gaze held a hint of surprise, layered with an inexplicable complexity.
'Finn must be really shocked,' Sally thought.
The tension in the room was so thick one could cut it with a knife, the air stretched taut as if an invisible force was pulling everything to the breaking point.
"I've been searching for that man all this time until you showed up." Brad suddenly grabbed Finn by the collar, yanking him violently closer, his eyes blazing with fury. "How dare you do those things with her while we're still married?"
"Brad, let go of him now," Sally shouted, rushing forward to pry him off Finn.
But Brad's grip was too strong. His hand, clutching Finn's collar, trembled violently.
Finn had taken a dislike to Brad long ago. Brad hurt Sally again and again, even conspiring with their son to have her thrown into prison. That pent-up resentment had been simmering inside Finn for nearly four years.
Finn's fist clenched tight. In one swift motion, he drove it straight into Brad's face.
Slam. The impact sent Brad sprawling to the floor, his elbow cracking against a nearby stool with a heavy thud.
Sally stared at Finn in stunned silence, her eyes wide with disbelief. She was sure Brad would be the first to throw a punch, but Finn actually struck first.
Finn jabbed his finger right in Brad's face and roared, "I've had enough of your bullshit. Four goddamn years of this."
"Four years?" Brad's voice was laced with disbelief as he scrambled up from the floor. "What the hell are you implying? That you two were already screwing around before she went to prison?"
His eyes turned ice-cold as Brad glared at Finn.
Finn didn't respond. He drove another fist into Brad's face, harder this time, splitting Brad's lip and drawing blood.
Ice-cold fury flashed in the depths of Brad's eyes. He clenched his fist, veins bulging, and punched back without hesitation.
A trickle of blood oozed from the corner of Finn's mouth, his cheek reddening and swelling.
Instantly, Finn and Brad were locked in a brutal brawl, fists flying wildly as the fight spiraled out of control.
Sally stood off to the side, her heart wrenching as she watched.
"Brad, stop it now," Sally screamed.
"Finn, don't fight," she pleaded.
No matter how desperately she yelled, they kept fighting. The brawl only grew more vicious. Her throat burned from shouting, a raw ache forming with each desperate cry.
Seeing the fight spiral out of control, Sally was at her wits' end. She rushed forward, grabbed Brad's arm, and shouted at the top of her lungs, "He's not the man."
Brad's fist froze mid-swing. He turned to her in disbelief, shock written all over his face. 'So, there's someone else?' he wondered.
Finn also froze, his expression unreadable as he stared at the two of them.
Brad's voice rose sharply. "So you're admitting it? You actually slept with another man that night?"
As soon as those words fell, Finn's eyes gradually darkened. Without a word, he strode out to the balcony and lit a cigarette, the sounds of their argument still ringing in his ears.
Sally looked up at Brad and said bluntly, "We'll discuss this in private. Stop making a scene here, or I'll call Mr. Zale over to settle this for us."
At the mention of his grandpa, Brad's tense expression finally eased a little. Brad stared at her icily. "When I find that man, I swear I'll make him pay."
Before Sally could respond, Brad turned on his heel and strode toward the door.
A figure who had been lurking by the door quickly darted into the nearby bushes. Clutching a box of pastries, he silently watched Brad leave.
Only when Brad was completely out of sight did he finally leave the entrance of Windmere Estates.
A deathly silence fell over the living room, so quiet that Sally could hear the relentless ticking of the clock. Her gaze instinctively darted toward the balcony where Finn stood.
Sally picked up the first aid kit and, after a brief hesitation, strode over to Finn. She dipped a cotton swab in antiseptic and reached out to tend to the cut on Finn's lip, but his hand shot out and clamped around her wrist.
Sally's eyelashes fluttered involuntarily. When she looked up, she was met with Finn's cold, piercing gaze.
Finn asked in a low, tense voice, "Was what he said true? At Howard's birthday party, did you really—" His voice trailed off, unable to voice the rest.
"No," Sally instinctively shot back. "Nothing happened between us that night."
Finn caught the flicker of evasion in her eyes, and in that instant, he seemed to understand everything. Finn murmured, "Nothing happened that night, but there was something between you two later, right?"
Sally swallowed hard, momentarily at a loss for words.
After all, they'd grown up together, and Finn was a psychology expert. Even without Sally saying a word, he could see right through her.
Seeing Sally still silent, Finn suddenly pressed further, his voice tense. "Was it Jaxon?"
Sally's eyes snapped up, wide with shock and disbelief as she stared at Finn. Finn caught her reaction, and in that instant, everything clicked.
