Jaxon said nothing more and strode purposefully toward the front door.
Howard's voice came from behind. "It's decided. Jaxon's right. Since you've decided to get divorced, just sign the papers and get it over with."
Jaxon never once broke his stride. The corners of his lips curled up slightly, revealing a dangerously captivating smile. He thought, 'At last, the day I've been waiting for is finally here.'
After leaving the Zale Mansion, Brad went straight back to the Zale Group, though his turbulent emotions refused to settle.
Seated at his desk, Brad pulled open the drawer. The divorce papers, placed right on top, immediately caught his eye. He reached for the divorce papers, his fingers pausing involuntarily for a brief moment.
As Brad placed the divorce papers on the desk, Howard's words kept echoing in his mind. Brad took out his phone and immediately called his assistant.
No sooner had he put down his phone than a knock came at the door. Nathan walked in and asked respectfully, "Mr. Zale, do you have any instructions for me?"
"Three years ago, when Sally was sent to prison, didn't I tell you to grease some palms? Don't tell me you didn't take care of it." Brad raised his sharp eyes, glaring at Nathan with suppressed anger.
The moment Nathan saw Brad's expression, he quickly shook his head and denied it. "Mr. Zale, when you told me, I took care of it right away. How could I possibly agree and then not follow through? I'd never dare—not in a million years."
Brad's expression darkened to the extreme as he observed the nervous look on Nathan's face.
'True enough,' Brad conceded inwardly. 'Nathan has worked for me for years and always gets the job done right. So the problem wasn't on Nathan's end after all. It must've been with the prison authorities.'
"They took my money but didn't grease the palms they were supposed to." Brad's lips curled into a mocking sneer. "How impressive of them."
"Mr. Zale, could it be they've been mistreating Mrs. Zale secretly?" Nathan's eyes widened a fraction, his pupils dilating with shock.
"I'm not sure yet. Go look into it." Brad settled back in his chair, his eyes never leaving the divorce papers on the desk.
This small gesture didn't escape Nathan's notice. Nathan didn't dare ask further and just nodded carefully. "Understood, Mr. Zale. I'll take care of it right away."
Just as Nathan turned to leave, Brad suddenly called out to him, "Hold on."
Nathan turned back to face him and asked, "Is something wrong, Mr. Zale?"
"Draw up a new divorce agreement. Transfer half of all assets under my name to Sally." Furious, Brad snatched the divorce agreement off the desk and flung it into the trash.
At these words, Nathan's eyes widened in utter shock, unable to believe what he'd just heard. He stammered, his voice trembling with disbelief. "Mr. Zale, did I hear that right? H-Half of your assets?"
Brad was seething with anger. "Don't make me repeat myself," he snapped.
Nathan hurriedly nodded. "Y-Yes, Mr. Zale."
With all the Zale Group's combined assets, Brad was already worth over 3 billion dollars.
'Half his fortune? We're talking billions here. Wow, Mr. Zale's actually willing to part with so much,' Nathan thought in amazement. 'But judging by his reaction, it doesn't seem like he's doing this willingly. Could the Zale family be forcing him?'
Evening, in the clinic, Finn had accidentally cut his hand while cooking last night, and his facial injuries still hadn't fully healed.
Seizing the quiet moment when there were no patients, Sally sat with him at the clinic's consultation desk, carefully applying medicine to his wounds.
Little did he know, the man standing by the roadside had already witnessed everything. Jaxon watched the scene in silence, his fingers unconsciously tightening around the cigarette for a moment.
After she left in the middle of the night yesterday, Sally didn't call Jaxon once all day, not even a single text. He was feeling so pent-up that he drove over here, only to walk right into this scene.
They were deep in conversation, the atmosphere between them warm and harmonious.
From his vantage point, Jaxon could clearly see both their profiles. Their smiles were radiantly vivid, impossible to ignore. The clinic was filled with a warm, easy atmosphere.
Just as Sally finished applying the ointment, Finn suddenly asked, his voice gentle, "Last night when you went to the Zale Mansion, did you already tell Mr. Zale you wanted a divorce?"
At these words, Sally's hand, holding the ointment, froze involuntarily for a brief moment. Sally thought to herself, 'Looks like he already knows.'
Sally didn't try to hide it. She gave a gentle nod and said, "Yes, I told Mr. Zale yesterday."
"From now on, you'll be free to do whatever you want, and love whoever you wish." Finn's voice held a hint of sadness.
Sally lowered her gaze, a little surprised. When their eyes met, deep within his eyes, she saw something intense. It was love, deep, undeniable love.
The moment it flashed through her mind, even Sally herself was startled. 'Why is Finn looking at me like that all of a sudden?' Sally wondered, her heart skipping a beat.
She'd seen it before, but that was ages ago, way back in her college days.
Back then, Finn would often do things that made her wonder about his feelings. He was always giving her little gifts and bringing all sorts of tasty treats. For a while, Sally couldn't help but wonder if Finn had feelings for her.
However, Finn never once mentioned it to Sally. After she got married, their contact gradually dwindled.
"Sally, do you really have feelings for Jaxon?" Finn's sudden question snapped Sally out of her thoughts.
Sally's long eyelashes fluttered nervously as she struggled to find the right words.
Finn suddenly reached out with his well-defined hand, firmly grasped her arm, and pulled her a little closer. "Sally, why didn't you answer me?"
Jaxon watched from the roadside, and the cigarette in his hand snapped in two. The cigarette's glow faded into ash, carried away by the wind and lingering in the air.
Jaxon flung the cigarette onto the ground, then raised his polished shoe and ground it out bit by bit. His bloodshot eyes blazed with fury, the crimson rage within him rising steadily like an uncontrollable fire.
Sally instinctively looked down at his hand. "Finn?"
Finn noticed the shift in Sally's expression and, after a moment's hesitation, eventually let her go.
He gave a gentle, understanding smile. "No need to answer if you don't want to. I was just making conversation. No pressure at all."
Sally gave a small, instinctive nod but stayed silent, not knowing what to say.
Standing up, Finn reached out his delicate hand and gently stroked Sally's hair.
His fingers brushed gently through her hair, his gaze overflowing with affection. "What are you craving tonight? I'll whip it up for you at home."
Howard's voice came from behind. "It's decided. Jaxon's right. Since you've decided to get divorced, just sign the papers and get it over with."
