The next instant, Sally suddenly extended her hand and tore the divorce agreement right down the middle.
Brad, standing right in front of her, was utterly stunned, his eyes wide with shock as he took in the scene. He stared at her in disbelief. "Sally, what the hell are you doing? Have you lost your mind?"
As if deaf to his words, Sally kept tearing the divorce agreement in half, over and over, until she had reduced it to confetti. Only then did her expression soften slightly.
Brad stood rooted to the spot, his face frozen in shock.
Sally didn't hesitate for a second. She raised her hand and tossed the shredded remains of the divorce agreement high above her head, letting the pieces flutter down like confetti.
The shredded fragments fluttered through the air, drifting down like snowflakes.
The scraps of paper settled on Brad's head and shoulders, weighing him down far more than their lightness would suggest.
The scraps of paper were feather-light, yet they weighed on his shoulders like a ton.
Seeing Brad's crestfallen look, Sally felt a surge of inexplicable satisfaction. She smirked, "I'm not satisfied with this divorce agreement, Mr. Zale. Have your people draft a new one."
Brad stared at her in disbelief, his voice rising an octave. "Don't tell me you want my entire fortune. That's just—"
Before he could finish, Sally cut him off sharply, "I won't take a single penny from you. My only demand is to keep Windmere Estates. This property is already mine. Have your lawyers redraft the divorce agreement according to my terms, or I won't sign it."
Shock and disbelief flashed across Brad's face in an instant. Never in his wildest dreams did he expect that, instead of demanding a fortune, she would want absolutely nothing.
'But if she refuses to take anything, how am I supposed to explain this to Grandpa?' Brad wondered.
"Alright, I'll set aside 60 million dollars for you. I know it's not easy raising a child, even if she's not mine. Considering all the years you've been with me, just take this as compensation," said Brad.
"Mr. Zale, are you hard of hearing, or is your comprehension just that terrible?" Sally fixed him with an icy, indifferent stare, her voice suddenly dropping to a low, steely tone.
She refused to take a single cent, precisely so no one could use money as a reason to gossip about her.
If she walked away with billions from him by signing these divorce papers today, she would be splashed across the headlines tomorrow.
Even if Brad left her alone, Sally was sure his mistress wouldn't let her off the hook. Sally would never do something so stupid.
Now Sally had her earning power. A single crystalware artwork commission could easily bring in tens of thousands, sometimes even more. Plus, her clinic was running smoothly and bringing in a steady income.
With her current income, Sally could easily support Lillian.
"Let me ask you one last time. Are you serious about this? Not a single cent?" Brad's look of astonishment never faded.
Sally didn't bother to respond. Instead, she said coolly, "Just draft the divorce agreement as I said and deliver it to my clinic tomorrow."
Without waiting for his response, Sally turned on her heel and strode briskly toward the entrance of Windmere Estates.
Brad whirled around, his face stormy as he watched her disappear through the door.
Finn, standing on the second-floor balcony, had overheard every word of their conversation.
After finishing up in the kitchen, Finn had just planned to head upstairs and change clothes, but he ended up overhearing their entire conversation by accident.
As Sally turned away, Finn had already ducked aside. Only after she went inside did he emerge from hiding.
Finn leaned on the railing, looking down at the figure in the courtyard below. Brad's gaze locked onto Finn as well. His hands at his sides involuntarily clenched into tight fists.
Sally had once told him that the man she slept with wasn't Finn. Yet to this day, Brad still had no idea who that man really was.
Finn shot Brad a cold, disdainful glance, then turned and strode back into his room.
That evening, at the Orchard Villa, Brad had just finished dinner when the sharp click of high heels echoed from outside. At the sound, Brad glanced up, only to see Lena walk in.
"Lena? What brings you here all of a sudden?" Brad gave her a curious look and lowered his voice a bit.
"Brad, I heard people saying Mr. Zale demanded you split half your fortune with Sally. Is that true?" Lena sat beside him, her voice laced with barely concealed anxiety.
Brad gave a slight nod. "Yes."
"Did you really give it to her? Half your fortune? That's at least billions of dollars. What gives her the right to take that much from you?" Lena demanded.
Brad turned to look at the agitated woman beside him. Suddenly, Sally's words flashed through his mind. 'Those who value money over love are truly the most pathetic.'
"Don't tell me she's already signed the papers?" Lena's eyes widened further, her disbelief growing more intense by the second.
Brad's train of thought was cut short by Lena's voice, and his face darkened instantly. "I did offer it to her, but she refused. Not only did she turn it down, she actually tore up the divorce agreement."
At his words, Lena felt a wave of relief wash over her instantly.
With a frown, Lena quickly asked, "Why would she turn down all that money? Does this mean she's changed her mind about the divorce?"
"All she wants is Windmere Estates," Brad stated bluntly. "We bought that house together as a couple, but it's under her. She said she wouldn't take a single cent from me—just the house, nothing else."
At his words, Lena's eyes widened further, disbelief flooding her features.
'To think she'd refuse every single penny,' Lena wondered. 'Well, this works out perfectly. Once I marry Brad, I'll have more money than I could ever spend. What a fool—walking away without taking a single cent.'
Just then, Brad's phone suddenly rang, Nathan's name flashing on the screen. Brad sprang to his feet and strode toward the study.
Lena kept her eyes fixed on Brad's retreating figure, her brows suddenly knitting together.
'Brad never used to step away to take calls. He always answered right in front of me. But today, this is just too weird,' Lena thought.
Unable to resist her curiosity, Lena quietly got up to follow Brad, but accidentally knocked over the antique vase nearby.
Bang. As the antique vase shattered on the floor, Lena's pupils dilated in sheer horror.
This antique vase was a birthday gift from Howard to Brad when he came of age. He had always treasured that vase, never allowing anyone to so much as touch it.
'Oh no, I'm done for,' Lena thought in horror.
Inside the study, a loud crash echoed behind him, but Brad was too preoccupied to react. Pressing the phone to his ear, he asked urgently, "Do you have the investigation results?"
"Yes." Nathan's voice came through the phone. "According to our investigation, Mrs. Zale did suffer extensive abuse during her incarceration."
Brad asked in disbelief, "Are you sure about this?"
