As soon as Brad finished speaking, Sally snapped her head up and locked eyes with him.
In Brad's eyes, she saw a chilling coldness she'd never seen before.
'Looks like Nick went home and tattled on me to Brad,' Sally thought.
Sally curled her lips into a mocking smile and looked Brad straight in the eye. "So bringing over the divorce papers tonight was just an excuse, huh? You really came here to settle the score with me, didn't you?"
"Nick is our son. We're divorced, but you were the one who gave birth to him. Yet, you call him a 'stranger' and treat someone else's kid like family!" Brad let out a low, bitter chuckle. "Don't you see how ridiculous that is?"
Sally frowned slightly at his words.
So, it turned out that Nick had overheard Sally's conversation with Lillian in the hallway earlier today.
Brad snapped, "You really made your son apologize in front of so many people? He may just be a kid, but he has his own self-respect and feelings. Treat him like this, and aren't you afraid he'll turn against you someday?"
'Turn against me?' Sally thought. Hearing those words, she couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh.
They turned against her long ago. The moment he and Nick personally put her behind bars, it was clear they could never be family again.
Sally said coldly, "I couldn't care less. I've already given up on him. Once the divorce is finalized, you'll have full custody, and I won't even need to pay child support. So whether he turns against me or not, what difference does it make?"
Before Sally had even finished speaking, Brad slammed his hand down on the coffee table and sprang to his feet.
He braced his hands on the glass tabletop, glaring down at her from above. "Sally! Sometimes I seriously wonder if he is even your son."
Sally wasn't intimidated by his outburst. She merely paused for a brief moment, slightly taken aback.
After a moment, Sally snapped, "Are you seriously questioning if he's your own son? Just drop your act.
"I loved you with everything I had. You were my whole world. And what did I get? You and your son sent me to prison. How is that any different from being enemies?"
Her voice rose sharply, echoing through every corner of the room.
Brad's hand trembled uncontrollably on the table, veins bulging at his temples from sheer rage.
Sally snapped, "Besides, he started those rumors. If he made a mistake, he needs to apologize. Otherwise, how will he ever learn? And how he's turned out now is clearly because of how you and Lena raised him, right?
"He was such a good kid. He was obedient and sensible when he was with me. But after just three years without me, he becomes this disgraceful. And you still have the nerve to come here and make a scene?"
Sally stood up from the couch, her face an emotionless mask as she stared at him.
Brad's eyes blazed with unprecedented fury.
Without hesitation, he snatched the water cup from the table and hurled it violently onto the floor.
A piercing crash of shattering glass instantly filled the entire living room.
This time, Sally was startled and couldn't help but give a slight shudder.
"What now? Are you going to tear the place apart?" Just as the tense standoff was suddenly interrupted by a deep voice coming from the doorway.
Both Sally and Brad turned toward the sound, immediately spotting Jaxon approaching.
The instant Sally saw Jaxon, her previously tense nerves instantly relaxed.
Jaxon walked in carrying a gift box, exuding an air of authority. Every step he took felt like a weight pressing down on everyone's chest.
"Uncle Jaxon, what brings you here so unexpectedly?" Brad's face darkened as he shot Jaxon a cold look, his brows knitting instinctively.
Suddenly, Brad thought, 'Is Uncle Jaxon showing up around Sally a little too often?
'Setting aside those earlier chance encounters, first at the clinic, now at Windmere Estates, he always seemed to show up at just the right moment...
'What the hell is going on here?'
Jaxon bypassed the shattered glass, placed the gift box on the table, and then demanded coldly, "If I hadn't come, were you planning to wreck this whole place? What the hell is going on here? Have you lost your mind?"
Brad snapped, "Sally bullied Nick at school. I'm here to stand up for him. What's wrong with that?"
Jaxon glared at him with an impassive expression. "I've heard about the school incident too, and it was clearly Nick's fault. It's one thing for a child to not know any better, but you're an adult. Shouldn't you be able to tell right from wrong?"
At Jaxon's words, Brad was left speechless with rage.
Among the entire Zale family, there were only two people Brad truly stood in awe of, Howard and Jaxon.
Besides, he had a major project he needed to work on with Jaxon right now.
No matter what, he absolutely couldn't afford to fall out with Jaxon at this point.
"Take your son home and discipline him properly. Keep him out of trouble from now on. Lillian is my goddaughter too. If anything like this happens again after today, don't blame me when I step in myself." Jaxon's voice was colder than ever.
Brad's face darkened for a moment, but he remained silent. He spun around and stormed out.
Only after Brad was completely out of sight did Jaxon finally turn to Sally.
He immediately closed the distance between them, his eyes clouded with concern. "Are you alright? Did he hurt you?"
Without waiting for an answer, he gently reached out and took her wrist, carefully examining it for any sign of injury.
"I'm fine. He didn't hurt me," Sally said, gently shaking her head. Then she quickly changed the subject. "What brings you here all of a sudden?"
"I was hosting a new project launch at the hotel across the street. When I was leaving, I spotted Brad's car parked here and got concerned he might cause you trouble, so I came to check on you." Jaxon suddenly swept her into a tight embrace.
His slender fingers gently smoothed through her hair for a fleeting moment.
'Seems like he's genuinely worried about me...' Sally thought.
The sudden embrace made Sally's heart race uncontrollably.
Instinctively, she pressed her hands against his chest. "Mr. Zale, you're holding me way too tight. I can barely breathe."
At her words, Jaxon couldn't help but curve his lips into a smirk, letting out a low, husky chuckle.
After taking a moment to compose himself, he finally released her.
Jaxon settled onto one end of the sofa, his gaze casually landing on the divorce papers on the coffee table.
Without hesitation, he reached out, picked up the divorce papers, and began flipping through them.
Jaxon couldn't help but smile as he saw both signatures. "Wow, that was fast. You two managed to get the papers signed in just a few days, huh?"
"Fast?" Sally sat beside him with a bitter laugh. "I've been waiting for these divorce papers for over half a year. How is that fast by any measure?"
Jaxon tossed the divorce papers back onto the coffee table and then turned to her with a suggestive look. "Now that you're officially divorced, don't you think it's time you..."
