Sally snapped, "What else? I meant exactly what I said."
Brad gradually composed himself, turning her words over in his mind, trying to discern what she truly meant.
With a sneer, Sally retorted, "Aren't you worried your affair with Lena will ruin the Zale family's reputation? Besides, we've already signed the divorce papers and are going through the legal process. What I do with anyone else is none of your business."
Brad stared at her in shock. "You can be with anyone but never him!"
Brad's voice suddenly raised, his entire presence radiating an even more menacing intensity.
Sally's smile turned even icier. "Why can't it be him? He's just a man like any other... "
Brad shouted, "Are you insane? He's my uncle!"
"So what if he's your uncle?" Sally said sternly. "We're not blood-related, and after the divorce, I won't even be a Zale anymore. So..."
Brad's eyes widened in shock. "So the man you slept with in my room that night was Jaxon?"
At these words, surprise flickered in Sally's eyes.
She never expected Brad to suddenly ask something like that. It completely caught her off guard.
'I can't say anything more,' Sally warned myself. 'If I push this any further, things will get out of hand and there'll be no way to fix it.'
Sally shot back, "I never said it was him. You're the one making wild assumptions about us, so I just played along. Got a problem with that?"
Brad thought, 'It always struck me as odd. Ever since that night, I searched everywhere for that man but found no trace at all. If it really was Uncle Jaxon, then everything finally made sense...'
Brad's lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. "With Uncle Jaxon's skills, of course, he could cover his tracks so completely."
Sally's heart was pounding like crazy.
She couldn't let Brad find out about Jaxon and her at this critical moment. No matter what, she had to wait until the divorce was finalized.
"It wasn't him." Sally steeled herself to stay calm, her gaze icy.
The moment Sally finished speaking, Brad suddenly seized her wrist.
The next instant, he slammed her against the wall, his icy gaze bearing down on her. "How much longer are you going to keep lying to me?"
Sally shot back icily, "I have no reason to lie to you. I said it wasn't him, and that's final. Stop making wild assumptions, Mr. Zale."
Brad's grip on her wrist tightened involuntarily as he demanded, "If it wasn't him, then who? There are only two men you've been close to recently, Finn, and..." His voice turned icy. "Uncle Jaxon!"
His voice grew a bit louder, startling Sally, who froze for a split second.
When Sally looked up and met Brad's gaze, a bone-chilling coldness stared back at her, unlike anything she'd ever seen before.
After regaining her composure, Sally gritted her teeth, forcing a cold, faint smile. "Oh? So you can keep a mistress, but I can't have a toy boy?"
Brad stared at her in shock, his fury boiling over as he suddenly seized her chin. "So, you're finally admitting you are seeing someone else?"
He no longer mentioned Jaxon. Now he just said she was seeing someone else.
Sally thought with a flicker of relief, 'As long as Brad isn't zeroing in on Jaxon, there's still room to maneuver.
'Damn it! I should never have fallen into his trap just now.'
Steeling herself, Sally shot back without hesitation, "That's right. I'm seeing someone else. Happy with that answer, Mr. Zale?"
Brad's grip on her chin was crushing. The force was so intense that it felt like he might shatter her bones, far beyond what she could endure.
"Let go of me!" Sally snapped, her voice tight with pain. She quickly reached up, clawing frantically at Brad's arm with both hands, desperately trying to pry his fingers off her chin.
After letting her go, Brad instantly clenched his fist and slammed it violently into the wall.
The impact was thunderous, reverberating throughout the entire hallway.
Sally flinched at the sudden noise, her back going rigid.
Brad didn't even bat an eye, his cold gaze fixed on her. "Starting today, I'll get to the bottom of this. And if I ever find that man, I'll kill him with my own hands."
If it had been any other man, Sally thought, with Brad's ruthless power and means, he would have destroyed the man completely.
However, it was Jaxon. Whether it was status, connections, or wealth, Jaxon was far above you.
If it really came to a showdown, Brad might not be a match for Jaxon.
Sally sneered, "Such bold words, Mr. Zale. Let's see if you really have what it takes to do so."
Brad raised an eyebrow, a spark of interest flickering in his eyes. "Oh? So he's got something going for him after all, huh?"
"He's way out of your league." Sally's tone was tinged with casual indifference, but beneath it ran a sharp, unmistakable chill.
She might not know much about men in general, but when it came to Brad, she knew him all too well.
He was always fiercely competitive. Especially when it came to matters of pride, there was no way he'd ever let this go.
Brad sneered, "No wonder you're in such a hurry to leave me. You've found yourself a bigger sugar daddy, haven't you?"
Sally's voice was thick with provocation. "Anyway, he's better than you in every way."
"Fine. I'll move heaven and earth to track him down and see what kind of magic he's worked to bewitch you like this," Brad snapped.
With those words, Brad stormed out without a backward glance, striding purposefully toward the door and disappearing down the hallway.
As Brad stormed out, the emergency stairwell finally fell silent.
Sally drew a deep, steadying breath, her nerves gradually calming.
That was way too close. Brad almost discovered her affair with Jaxon just now.
At that moment, Sally finally understood what Finn had meant by danger.
With Brad's temperament, if he picked up on anything at a moment like this, he'd stop at nothing to destroy her.
After steadying her breathing, Sally crouched to gather all six medicine packets from the floor, stuffed them back into the torn bag, and, clutching it tightly, hurried out of the emergency stairwell.
Once Sally was sure Brad had left, she headed to Jaxon's office and knocked on the door.
"Come in," came Jaxon's prompt reply from inside.
Sally's heart gave an involuntary leap. 'So he's in his office after all?' she thought.
Sally pushed the door open and hurried inside.
Jaxon sat motionless at his desk, his gaze fixed on the computer, seemingly engrossed in work.
At the click of high heels, Jaxon's gaze snapped up. When he saw Sally, a flicker of surprise crossed his face. "Sally? What brings you here?"
