"No! Don't touch my son!" The old lady quickly put down her phone, rushed over, and threw herself in front of Casey, sobbing uncontrollably. "He's in shock right now. What if you end up killing him?"
"Ma'am, please, don't hold us up any longer. Move aside." Carlos hurried over, trying to pull her away, but the old lady clung on tightly, refusing to budge.
Sally said seriously, "His condition is really bad. If you keep delaying, he could actually die."
Maybe it was Sally's unwavering determination or just her strong presence, but the old lady was finally stunned into silence.
"Once he wakes up, I promise I'll explain everything to you. But right now, please let us treat him," said Sally.
Seeing the old lady stop resisting, Sally turned to Carlos. "Get the needles ready. We need to do bloodletting now."
"Got it." Carlos nodded. Then he quickly said to the men nearby, "You guys, help us carry him inside."
The men looked at each other, hesitating.
"What are you waiting for? Every second we waste puts him in more danger," Carlos barked, and finally, the men sprang into action.
They worked together to get Casey into the treatment room.
After Carlos closed the door, only Sally and Casey were left inside.
Outside, the crowd was packed in tight, layer after layer, making it almost impossible to move.
Everyone was whispering anxiously, their eyes fixed on the treatment room.
.No one had any idea what was happening inside.
Amy hurried out and called Abigail.
The phone rang, and Abigail's voice came through. "Aunt Amy, what's up?"
Amy said anxiously, "Oh, Abigail! Something happened at your friend's clinic."
Abigail asked, surprised, "What happened?"
Amy said, "I heard that on opening day, a patient came in for an allergy and took the medicine Mrs. Zale prescribed. Today, he suddenly went into shock. They're trying to save him in the treatment room right now. I heard it's really serious. I'm not sure if he'll make it."
Abigail's eyes widened in shock. "Okay, got it. I'll head over right away."
"What happened?" A deep, low voice suddenly sounded in Abigail's ear.
She looked up at Jaxon beside her, a worried crease forming between her brows. "Something happened at Sally's clinic."
Jaxon's face turned ice-cold, and the air around him grew heavy and tense.
He hadn't seen Lillian yesterday, so he'd planned to take her to school this morning.
But just as he reached the door, he saw Abigail coming out with Lillian. Before he could even say a word, Abigail's phone started ringing.
Abigail quickly filled Jaxon in on the situation.
Jaxon strode toward the driver's seat. "Caleb, take Miss Nell's car and drive Lillian to school. After you drop her off, meet me at Sally's clinic."
Caleb quickly got out of the car. "Yes, Mr. Zale."
Seeing this, Abigail immediately reached out to comfort Lillian, "Lillian, be good and go to school with Caleb, okay? We have something to take care of."
Even though Lillian was still young, she could tell from their words that something serious was going on.
Her eyes rimmed red. Lillian nodded softly. "Okay, Abigail."
"Thank you, Caleb." Abigail quickly pressed her car keys into Caleb's hand.
Caleb took the keys. "Don't mention it. You guys be careful."
Inside the clinic, Sally carefully inserted needles into Casey's acupoints, twisting them to stimulate each spot before pricking them to let out a bit of blood.
This wasn't Sally's first time treating someone in anaphylactic shock.
Years ago, her grandpa had gone into an even worse allergic shock. Back then, Sally and Finn had saved him using this same bloodletting technique.
Carlos was outside, trying to clear the crowd. "If you're not here for a checkup, please leave the clinic right now. Don't block the entrance. Someone could get trampled."
After his efforts, some people left, but plenty of elderly folks still stood around, gossiping and chatting among themselves.
Thanks to Sally's treatment, Casey finally woke up.
When he opened his eyes, Sally could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
As soon as the treatment room door opened, the old lady hurried inside.
A few men helped Casey out and sat him down at the consultation desk. Sally was about to write him a new prescription, but the old lady stopped her.
"My son only ended up like this because of your medicine. And you still have the nerve to prescribe him more? Are you serious right now?" The old lady was practically shaking with anger, her face cold and furious.
"He needs the medicine if he wants to actually get better. What I just did was only a temporary fix," Sally replied calmly.
"Then how do you explain him passing out?" the old woman shot back, standing right next to Casey and yelling at Sally. "Not only did you fail to cure him, but he went into shock after taking your medicine. Everyone, tell me, isn't she just a total fraud?"
"She's just a quack, but people act like she's a miracle doctor!"
"Yeah! Nobody should come to this clinic ever again!"
"With skills like that, she still wants to treat patients? What a joke!"
"Quack! She's just a quack!"
A bunch of old folks started cursing Sally out, their voices getting louder and louder.
Their words really made Sally feel inexplicably amused.
It was pretty obvious that everything happening today was a setup.
She didn't know who was behind it yet, but there was no doubt that it was a setup.
"Casey, just be straight with me—did you eat any shellfish?"
Sally ignored all the gossip around her and locked her eyes on Casey.
"I did eat some, but my mom has no idea," Casey admitted, his brows suddenly knitting together. "But you never told me I couldn't have shellfish!"
"Are you serious? Didn't Sally tell you?" Carlos cut in first, sounding annoyed. "Did you forget or are you just pretending? We told you like a million times that day, no shellfish! You even asked us why you couldn't eat it!"
"I never asked anything like that, so stop making stuff up," Casey said seriously. "If I wasn't supposed to eat it, why didn't you tell me ahead of time? I honestly never heard a word about this."
Sally felt her heart sink lower and lower as she listened to him.
She was set up on the very first day of opening. It turned out there really were a bunch of sneaky people around her.
She knew this day would come, but she never thought it would be this soon.
Sally was just about to respond when a deep voice cut her off, "Aren't there security cameras? Just check the footage and we'll see who's lying."
