At the sound, everyone turned to look in that direction.
Sally followed their gaze, and that familiar figure slowly made his way through the crowd, all eyes on him.
The man was dressed in a sleek black suit. His strikingly handsome face showed nothing but cool indifference. His intimidating presence was so strong that people instinctively stepped aside to let him pass.
Sally's hand, still holding her pen, paused for a moment.
She hadn't expected Jaxon to show up.
Abigail followed right behind him, walking briskly up to the consultation desk.
"That's right! Our clinic has security cameras. Just pull up the footage and we'll know exactly what happened." Carlos backed up Jaxon's words, lowering his gaze to Sally.
Sally pulled her attention back and fixed her eyes on Casey.
She asked seriously, "That day, Doctor York and I told you over and over not to eat shellfish. But your current condition is clearly from eating a lot of it."
"What are you trying to say?" the old lady snapped, her face sullen. "Are you accusing my son of eating all that shellfish on purpose?"
Her words sent a ripple of shock through the crowd.
"Mom, stop it!" Casey quickly cut his mother off, a chilling coldness flashing in his eyes.
"I don't know if it was on purpose or not. All I know is, he ate a ton of shellfish after I specifically warned him not to. So yeah, odds are it was intentional." A cold, sharp glint flashed in Sally's eyes.
Jaxon walked right up to the desk, bracing one hand on the edge and placing the other firmly on Casey's shoulder.
He looked down at Casey, his voice dropping low. "Did you come here just to stir up trouble?"
"I didn't! I swear, I wasn't trying to stir up trouble. I probably just forgot or something..." Casey seemed to recognize Jaxon, a flicker of unease showing in his eyes.
"First day open and you're already making a scene. What's your beef with Mrs. Zale?" Jaxon's hand on his shoulder suddenly tightened, his grip growing noticeably firmer.
"Sir, my son didn't do this on purpose. They just didn't give him clear instructions." The old lady stubbornly held her ground, shooting Sally a fierce glare.
"Go." Jaxon instinctively glanced toward Carlos. "Pull up the security footage."
His voice was low and deep, and a faint red glint flashed at the corners of his upturned eyes.
Carlos nodded quickly. "Got it."
"Maybe he really did do it on purpose?"
"Who put him up to this, anyway?"
"We don't even know the outcome yet. Who's actually causing trouble here?"
"I don't know. That doctor looks way too young. What skills could she possibly have?"
The nonstop chatter and gossip from the crowd buzzed in her ears.
Sally acted like she didn't hear a thing, keeping her eyes glued to Carlos's computer screen.
Abigail and Amy quickly came up behind her, their attention also fixed on the footage.
Meanwhile, Jaxon locked eyes with Casey.
He could clearly sense the fear flickering in Casey's eyes.
It was gone in a flash, but Jaxon caught it all the same.
Carlos pulled up the security footage and played it for everyone. The moment that creepy, cold smirk appeared on Casey's face, the whole room erupted even louder than before.
The truth was obvious to everyone now.
Casey tried to sneak away, but Jaxon grabbed his collar and held him tight.
Meanwhile, the guys who'd carried Casey in had already disappeared without a trace.
"Casey, why would you take such a huge risk just to eat shellfish?" Even the old lady who'd been so loud and bossy a minute ago was now staring at Casey, totally confused.
Casey stammered, "I... I..." Yet, he couldn't get a full sentence out.
"Who put you up to this?" Jaxon's brow furrowed, but his grip on Casey's collar never loosened.
"I'm going to ask you one last time. Who put you up to this?" A chill flashed in Jaxon's eyes, and his intimidating aura filled the room.
Sally's gaze landed on Jaxon's face.
It was the first time she'd ever seen him look this terrifying.
He was definitely pissed now.
Sally's expression hardened as she looked at Casey. "This isn't just about my clinic's reputation. It could even call our doctors' integrity into question. If you tell me the truth, I'll let it slide. If not, I'm calling the cops."
"No one told me to do anything," Casey insisted. "Go ahead and call the police if you want."
Jaxon's lips curled into a cold, dangerous smile. "So you'd rather take the hard way, huh?"
Just then, Caleb showed up after dropping Lillian off at school.
He walked over and lowered his voice. "Mr. Zale."
Jaxon looked up at him. "Caleb, clear the room. I want a private word with him."
"Okay." Caleb jumped into action, clearing out the crowd in no time. Even the nosy old folks who'd gathered to watch the show got ushered out.
Even Casey's mom and Amy were kicked out with everyone else with no exceptions.
Now, only Sally's closest people were left in the clinic.
Casey looked big and tough, but the second Jaxon stood next to him, most of that swagger disappeared.
"First day open and you're causing trouble. Do you expect me to believe no one put you up to this?" Jaxon reached out, grabbed a fistful of Casey's hair, and yanked his head back. "Do you really think I'm that gullible?"
It was the first time Sally had ever seen Jaxon get physical with someone. His presence was even more intimidating than usual.
Normally, he was just cold, but right now, he was like a predator stalking in the dark. He was dangerous and ready to strike.
"There's really no one behind this." Casey kept shaking his head, his voice dropping to a near whisper.
Carlos snapped, "Then explain what were you sneering at?"
He slid the laptop in front of Casey, pointing at the screen, his eyes growing colder by the second.
"I..." Casey still wouldn't tell the truth.
Abigail was fuming. "Sally has never even met you. What's your beef with her? Why go after her like this? She's one of the top traditional medicine doctors in Westmere, and you have the nerve to challenge her in public?"
Still, Casey kept his mouth shut.
Jaxon suddenly let go of him and turned to Caleb. "He won't talk. Caleb, what do you think we should do?"
