Lena looked stunned for a moment, but Sally caught it.
"What in the world are you talking about?" Lena's brow furrowed, looking flustered.
"Cut the act," Sally said in a low voice. "Jaxon's assistant squeezed the truth out of the troublemaker, and they admitted right then and there that Elise Tatum was behind it. Did Elise Tatum not tell you about this?"
"Why would she tell me?" Lena's face darkened slightly. "That's between you and her. What's it got to do with me?"
Sally gave a cold laugh. Just as she expected, Lena refused to admit it. It was exactly like she predicted.
"What kind of bad blood could there be between Miss Tatum and me?" Sally said casually. "At most, I just didn't rent her father's house, or maybe I didn't treat her... "
"You don't think that's enough for bad blood?" A hint of malice flashed across Lena's face, and the atmosphere suddenly turned heavy.
"But that shouldn't be enough for her to go to such lengths to mess with me, right?" Sally leaned in slightly and asked softly, "What do you think, Miss Yasmin?"
Lena's eyelashes were trembling uncontrollably.
"Are you getting nervous, Miss Yasmin?" Sally asked unhurriedly.
"Why would I be nervous?" Lena's voice was low. "This has nothing to do with me. Why would I be nervous?"
"Then why are you frowning like that?" Sally curled her lips into a casual smile. "Anyone who didn't know better would think Miss Yasmin actually did something shady behind the scenes! Just like back then... "
She trailed off, and Lena's eyes widened in alarm.
From where she stood, she could clearly see the main entrance. Although Brad and Nick weren't there right now, several staff members were walking around. If anyone overheard something they shouldn't, it wouldn't be good for Lena.
Lena continued to play dumb. "What happened back then is the past, and what's happening today is now. Don't mix them up! Otherwise, if you wrongly accuse me and they come after you later, don't blame me."
'They'. She didn't name names, but Sally knew 'they' meant Brad and Nick.
Sally grinned. "I know they protect you, but let me tell you, can they protect you forever?"
"What exactly do you mean by that, Mrs. Zale?" Lena's face instantly became stone cold.
"Exactly what it sounds like!" Sally replied expressionlessly. "I can let this slide, but if there's a next time, Miss Yasmin, you better watch yourself!"
"I told you this has nothing to do with me... " Lena said.
Just as Sally was about to turn and leave, someone suddenly grabbed her wrist from the side. She looked down and saw Lena was still holding her hand, not letting go.
"Let go." Sally's eyes filled with disgust.
"If you dare badmouth me to Brad about this, I'll make sure you pay dearly... " Before Lena could finish, Sally raised her hand and slapped her hard across the face.
A loud slap echoed.
Lena stared at Sally in disbelief. Just then, Brad happened to be coming out to call Lena for dinner and saw Sally hit her.
A sharp shout suddenly came from behind Sally, instantly reaching her ears. "Sally! What are you doing?"
Seeing the man rushing towards her, Lena instinctively reached up, covered her cheek, and circled around to stand in front of Brad. "Brad, you're here. Mrs. Zale and I were just talking, and she suddenly hit me for no reason."
Hiding behind him, her voice catching slightly, she added, "It hurts so much!"
Brad quickly took Lena's hand away from her cheek. Five red fingerprints instantly appeared on her face.
His face instantly contorted with fierce anger. He quickly turned to face Sally, his expression icy. "Why did you hit her?"
"Why don't you ask her what she said to me?" Sally said unhurriedly.
Brad was furious. "No matter what she said to you, you shouldn't have laid a hand on her!"
"What's this? Mr. Zale, feeling protective already?" Sally curled her lips calmly, looking coldly at the man in front of her.
Because of this woman's scheme, Sally had suffered unimaginable pain and humiliation during her three years in prison. Getting hit had become commonplace.
Yet, she had only slapped Lena once, and Brad was already so upset.
The contrast was utterly ridiculous!
"Apologize now!" Brad shouted.
"What if I don't?" Sally smiled casually. "Are you planning to hit me back for Miss Yasmin, Mr. Zale?"
"Sally, you... " As he said this, he had already raised his hand.
Seeing the man's raised hand, the air around Sally suddenly dropped several degrees. But she didn't even blink, staring straight at him.
"Brad!" Before his hand could fall, a deep, commanding voice called out from the courtyard.
Everyone turned towards the sound.
When Sally saw the figure walking towards them, her heart seemed to skip a beat.
Jaxon, dressed in a black suit, radiated a formidable aura. Each step he took felt heavy, as if landing directly on her heart.
Brad's hand froze mid-air. For a moment, he didn't know whether to bring it down or pull it back.
Jaxon stopped in front of Sally, pulled her behind him, and frowned at Brad. "You were going to hit your own wife?"
"I wasn't actually going to hit her... " Brad's voice suddenly dropped a few notches.
"Then why did you raise your hand just now? Men of the Zale family stand tall and proud. Our hands are only raised against enemies. Who taught you to raise a hand against your wife?" Jaxon's expression was icy, and his voice was low.
"Mr. Zale, Mrs. Zale and I were talking nicely, and she suddenly hit me," Lena said, her voice holding a hint of grievance.
Everyone's eyes turned to Lena. "Brad just wanted to stick up for me, but he didn't hit Mrs. Zale. Please don't blame him."
Jaxon glanced back at Sally, asking with a puzzled look, "You hit her?"
