From outside Sally's room, Jaxon heard familiar footsteps approaching. His gaze instinctively flickered in that direction.
A few seconds later, Lena Yasmin's voice sounded from Sally's doorway. "Brad, we're at the door. Try to sober up a bit... "
Sally's heart leaped into her throat.
'Lena's bringing Brad Zale back again? Was it because Nick was there, so she didn't dare mess around?' Sally wondered.
"Need a hand with that?" Jaxon's voice suddenly cut through Sally's thoughts.
Her gaze snapped back to him. As she looked up at the man beside her, she saw an unprecedented wildness deep in his cool eyes.
Sally was confused. "What?"
"Your divorce is dragging on, and I can't stand watching it anymore." Jaxon's hands, which had been on her neck, suddenly moved to her face. "How about I give you two a push?"
Sally's heart skipped a beat, then began to pound wildly. A wave of unease washed over her.
A knock came from the main door, accompanied by Lena's voice. "Mrs. Zale, are you in there? Could you help Brad inside?"
At the same instant, Jaxon's lips crashed down on hers.
In that moment, Sally's mind went blank. Her eyes widened in shock and disbelief.
Jaxon... he was actually kissing her!
This was different from the two accidental kisses before; this time, he initiated it.
His eyes were closed as he kissed her tenderly, even trying to part her lips.
A tingling sensation spread through her entire body, making her tremble uncontrollably, her legs threatening to give out.
There was no denying it- what he made her feel was unlike anything Sally had ever experienced.
But the moment the main door opened, Sally snapped back to reality. She quickly raised her hands, trying to push him away.
"Mrs. Zale?" Lena's voice said as she supported Brad into the room. "Not here?"
Her eyes scanned the room, but she saw no one.
The curtains of the balcony's sliding glass doors were mostly drawn, obscuring the view from inside, but a slight noise still caught Lena's attention.
As footsteps slowly approached, Sally's heart was in her mouth again.
Just as Sally tried to break free, Jaxon's hand instantly moved to her waist, holding her fast.
His kiss became more intense than before. A whirlwind of sensations exploded in Sally's head.
Just as Lena's hand was about to touch the curtain, a sound suddenly came from the bed behind her.
Brad scrambled off the bed and bolted towards the bathroom.
Lena quickly turned and hurried after him. "Brad, what's wrong?"
Sally then heard the sounds of retching from the bathroom, along with Lena's concerned voice.
Jaxon's kisses had moved from Sally's lips to her chin.
An uncontrollable urge pulled him further, no longer content with just her lips.
He found himself wanting more from her...
It was the first time anyone had ever stirred such a primal desire in him.
Sally, sensing his shift in intensity, quickly pushed him away.
She instinctively recoiled, staring at him in disbelief.
Jaxon's empty hand rested on the glass railing, his gaze fixed on her with a raw, possessive hunger.
Seeing her shocked expression, his gaze gradually returned to normal.
"Let's just... pretend this didn't happen," Sally stammered, not daring to look at Jaxon again before turning and rushing off.
Jaxon watched her hurry away, an irrepressible smirk playing on his lips.
He raised a finger to his lips, then let out a low, husky chuckle.
When Sally returned to the room, Lena was helping Brad out of the bathroom.
"Mrs. Zale, where did you just go?" Lena asked, her expression slightly darkened with confusion.
"Downstairs to get some water," Sally replied nonchalantly, her face impassive as she walked towards the bed.
"Well, since Mrs. Zale is here, I'll head back now." Lena looked up at Brad. "Get some rest tonight, Brad. I'm going back to my room."
Brad nodded slightly, watching her leave.
Click. The moment the door closed, the room fell into a brief silence.
Sally gave him an indifferent glance and then lay down on the bed.
They hadn't shared a bed in a long time. After a moment's thought, Brad walked to the other side of the bed.
Sally had no intention of engaging with him. She turned over and closed her eyes.
He said nothing and lay down beside her.
"You sleep on the sofa," Sally said, hearing him settle, turning to look at Brad.
"This is my house. If anyone's sleeping on the sofa, it's you." Having thrown up, Brad was feeling considerably better.
Without a second thought, Sally got up, went to the closet, pulled out a blanket, and lay down on the sofa.
Brad watched her, unsure whether to be annoyed or amused. "You really can't stand me that much, huh?"
"Glad you realize it," Sally shot back, glaring at him before closing her eyes, resigned to spending the night on the sofa.
Brad didn't say anything more and closed his eyes heavily.
Meanwhile, on the adjacent balcony, Jaxon chain-smoked cigarettes until the lights in the next bedroom went out. Only then did he go into his bathroom.
A cold shower finally cleared his head, and the heat in his body gradually subsided.
Lying in bed, however, sleep eluded him. He listened intently for any sound from the next room, but there was nothing.
Sally and Lena were also wide awake.
Only the man in the same bedroom as Sally slept soundly.
The next morning, when Jaxon woke up, Sally was nowhere to be seen.
Brad, Lena, and Nick were already at the dining table having breakfast.
"Jaxon, breakfast," Brad said. Despite the previous day's unpleasantness over Sally, he still addressed him for the meal.
Jaxon didn't respond directly, instead asking, "Where's Mrs. Zale? I haven't seen her come down."
"She was already gone from the bedroom when I got up. Probably left early for work," Brad said, his voice heavy, a hint of displeasure on his face.
Jaxon nodded curtly and walked towards the door without another word.
Once in his car, he pulled out his phone and called Sally.
A few seconds later, Lena Yasmin's voice sounded from Sally's doorway. "Brad, we're at the door. Try to sober up a bit... "
