"Live for me then," Sienna whispered, her voice faint. "Do everything you ever wanted to do. Live a brilliant life, and don't let any man hold you back again."
Sally nodded, tears streaming. "Okay."
Just then, a familiar voice came from outside the door, "Lillian? What are you doing here?"
Sally's back stiffened.
'Jaxon's here... '
Visiting hours were over. Sally forced herself up, took one last look at Sienna, and quickly left.
Before walking out, she instinctively wiped the tears from her cheeks.
When Sally stepped out, she saw someone else there. Lillian was by a chair, sobbing, while Jaxon knelt beside her, gently wiping her tears.
Standing next to Jaxon was an unfamiliar woman. She had waist-length wavy hair, and a long black dress that couldn't entirely conceal her striking figure. Full lips, large eyes, a high-bridged nose...
With her perfect makeup, she had the flawless beauty of a porcelain doll. This woman looked exactly like a princess from a spinning music box, possessing a fresh, otherworldly beauty.
Sally's gaze drifted down to the woman's ring finger- a diamond ring.
This was the first time Sally had seen Jaxon with another woman since he'd returned.
And a married one at that...
Could this be the woman he loves? The one he can't have?
When Jaxon saw Sally, he quickly stood up. Their eyes met, but neither spoke.
"Jaxon, is this someone you know?" the woman asked, stepping to his side and tugging his arm affectionately.
Her eyes, as she looked at Sally, held a faint trace of wariness.
"Lillian's adoptive mother, Mrs. Zale," Jaxon said, then gestured to the woman. "Sienna's best friend, Kendall Harper."
After the brief introduction, Sally extended her hand. "Hello, nice to meet you."
Kendall hesitated for a second before taking it. "Mrs. Zale, you look a bit familiar. Have we met somewhere before... ?"
"I'm Brad's wife," Sally stated coolly, "though we're getting divorced soon."
"Brad is Jaxon's nephew," Kendall replied. "I was back in Westmere for a party about four years ago. I must have seen you then."
Sally offered a slight, polite smile. "I have a terrible memory, I'm afraid."
"No problem," Kendall said, her smile unwavering, but her grip on Sally's hand suddenly tightened.
It was time for Kendall and Jaxon's visit. As they were about to go in, Jaxon turned back to Sally. "Wait for me at the entrance with Lillian. I'll drive you both home later."
"Jaxon," Kendall interjected, a flicker of anxiety on her face, "aren't we supposed to have lunch together later?"
Meeting Kendall's gaze, Sally saw a fierce possessiveness in her eyes.
'So, his feelings aren't unrequited after all!' Sally thought. 'Was there some hidden reason they didn't get together back then?'
"It's fine, we'll have time," Jaxon said, patting Sally's arm gently. "Wait for me," he added in a lower voice.
Lillian got up and hugged Sally's leg. Sally looked down at the child.
'In this situation,' she mused, 'having Jaxon around might not be a bad thing.'
Sally nodded. "Okay."
When she glanced at Kendall, the displeasure on Kendall's face was unmistakable.
Jaxon went in, and Kendall followed.
Worried Lillian would get restless, Sally took her outside.
They stood by Jaxon's Maybach, waiting.
Lillian was surprisingly quiet.
Sally, concerned, knelt. "Lillian, are you okay?"
Lillian didn't speak, tugging at the hem of her clothes. She seemed a bit calmer, perhaps having cried out her emotions earlier.
"Can you tell Sally what Mommy told you?" Sally asked gently, afraid the experience would traumatize her.
"Mommy said she's going to die tomorrow," Lillian finally whispered. "She told me not to come here anymore, not to worry about her, and to live a good life with Sally... "
Her voice broke with a sob as she finished.
Sally pulled the child into a tight hug, gently patting her back. "There, there, Lillian. Everyone has to go someday. Mommy's just going a little ahead of you. You'll definitely see each other again someday."
"Don't be scared," Sally continued softly. "Sally will be here for you. If you want, Sally can be your mom from now on, okay?"
Lillian nodded but remained silent.
Half an hour later, Jaxon and Kendall emerged from the prison.
Kendall's eyes were red, making her look even more delicate. Jaxon, however, wore a grim expression, his emotions unreadable.
After they got home, Sally noticed Lillian was in a very low spirits. To focus on her, Sally didn't go to the clinic that day.
The next day, Lillian didn't go to school. Sally left the clinic work to Carlos York and stayed by Lillian's side constantly.
Today was the day of Sienna's execution. Although no one had explicitly told Lillian, Sally could sense the child knew. She was gloomy and restless all day. To ease her anxiety, Sally took her for a walk and bought her favorite snacks.
Exhausted from the day, Lillian fell asleep by early evening.
Sally's phone buzzed in her pocket. Her brow furrowed when she saw the caller ID- Jaxon.
Closing Lillian's bedroom door quietly, Sally answered. "Mr. Zale, you were looking for me?"
"I'm at your door. Come out for a second," Jaxon's voice came through the line.
Sally's gaze instinctively went to the front door. Murmuring an "okay," she walked towards it.
As soon as she opened it, she saw the familiar Maybach parked at the bottom of the steps. Caleb was standing nearby, smoking a cigarette and on his phone.
Sally approached, opened the car door, and got in.
Jaxon, dressed in a black suit, sat in the back seat, exuding an air of powerful elegance.
Sally turned to him. "Mr. Zale, how did you know I was home?"
"I went to your clinic," he explained, his voice unusually low as he turned to her. "Carlos York said you didn't come in, so I figured you were home with Lillian. How is she doing? Is she okay?"
"Not great," Sally admitted. "I took her out all day, but she was on edge the whole time. She just fell asleep after we got back."
Jaxon's voice grew heavier. "Sienna Ford passed away at three this afternoon."
