Elise shot Carlos a furious glare.
Sally set the megaphone down. "If you're not going to do this, then I'll just have to call the police. This whole thing has been a huge blow to my clinic's reputation, and I need some kind of resolution. Don't you agree?"
"Who said I wasn't going to? Did I say I wouldn't?" Elise snapped, seething.
"Alright then... " Sally nodded thoughtfully. "Carlos, you handle the recording. I'm going to go change."
"You got it." Carlos readily took the megaphone and watched Sally walk away.
Once Sally was in the break room, she heard Carlos's voice from outside, "Ready when you are?"
"Just get on with it! Don't waste my damn time!" Elise's voice followed.
After Elise spoke into the megaphone, Carlos kept nagging, "That's too quiet. Can you speak up? At this volume, you sound like a bird chirping. Nobody can hear what you're saying."
Elise yelled, "Will you just shut up! You're messing up my recording!"
"Well, then speak louder! Can't you get it right in one take? You're holding up our business, you know," Carlos retorted.
"Damn it all! You say one more word, and I'll rip your damn head off!" Elise shouted.
"Sorry, but I'm tougher than I look. Tearing anything off me would take some effort," Carlos said with a smirk.
Listening to them bicker back and forth, Sally couldn't help but find it amusing.
The reason she was hitting back so hard this time was to make sure Elise wouldn't try to stir up trouble at the clinic again.
If she didn't teach her a harsh lesson, Elise would never learn.
After all, she'd always known that if you let people walk all over you, they would.
Sally's clothes underneath were dry; only her white lab coat had been soaked with the herbal concoction.
She changed into a fresh one and quickly walked back out.
Elise had finished recording her apology.
With everything set, Sally turned to Carlos. "Go open the main doors. Let Miss Tatum give our clinic a proper apology."
An excited grin spread across Carlos's face. "Will do."
Seeing his grin, Elise stomped her foot in frustration.
At that moment, in the Maybach parked near the entrance, both the front passenger-side window and the rear windows were down.
Two intense gazes were fixed on the clinic's entrance, watching the scene unfold.
"Mr. Zale, what's taking so long? Do you think something's gone wrong?" Caleb, in the driver's seat, glanced back nervously at the man in the backseat.
Jaxon's expression was perfectly calm, betraying no emotion.
He rested his arm on the windowsill, a cigarette between his fingers, his gaze still fixed on the clinic entrance as he exhaled a plume of smoke.
"No rush. Let's wait and see." Just as the words left his lips, Carlos opened the clinic doors from the inside.
Caleb heard the sound and quickly looked over. He saw Carlos ushering Elise Tatum out. She was holding a megaphone, her face a mask of intense resentment.
He saw Elise Tatum being pushed out by Carlos York, clutching a megaphone, her face twisted with anger and resentment.
'What's all this?' Caleb wondered, a curious and puzzled expression on his face.
When Jaxon saw a familiar, graceful figure come into view, the hand holding his cigarette paused for a split second.
"Step right up, folks, don't miss this! The woman who tried to frame our clinic a while back is here today to formally apologize to our clinic and all our patients!" Carlos bellowed, making Elise instantly feel like she wanted the ground to swallow her whole.
Even before the clinic had officially opened, a few patients were already lingering. Hearing the commotion, they all gathered at the entrance, and the crowd of onlookers quickly grew.
"Go on! What are you waiting for?" Sally urged when Elise didn't move, prompting her to pick up the megaphone.
But Elise still wouldn't cooperate, showing no intention of playing the recording.
Seeing this, Sally quickly stepped forward, snatched the megaphone from Elise's hand, and pressed the play button.
As the recording started, she quickly shoved the megaphone back into Elise's hands.
"Hello everyone, my name is Elise Tatum. The allergic reaction incident a while ago was actually a farce I orchestrated. I framed the clinic and slandered Doctor Zale and Doctor York. Their medical skills are excellent, and I recognize my mistake. I am here to formally apologize to them. I am truly sorry."
The recording played continuously, looping over and over again.
The crowd in front of her grew larger, people pointing and whispering. Many covered their mouths to hide their snickers, and some discussed the situation animatedly with those next to them.
Witnessing this, Elise instinctively lowered her gaze to the ground. She quickly raised her other hand to cover her face.
'This is so incredibly humiliating,' she thought.
She was even starting to regret agreeing to such a ridiculous thing, especially for a whole half hour.
When Caleb saw this, he couldn't help but chuckle. He glanced instinctively at the man in the backseat. "Mr. Zale, Mrs. Zale's move is brilliant! How is this any different from parading criminals through the streets in ancient times?"
Jaxon tossed his cigarette butt to the ground and exhaled the last of the smoke, his face still impassive. He merely glanced at Elise Tatum before his gaze returned to Sally's elegant figure.
'Since the matter is resolved, there's no need to stay.' "Drive. Back to the Group," he ordered.
"Yes, sir." Caleb replied.
Sally watched the crowd grow, a faint smile playing on her lips.
As her gaze idly scanned forward, she spotted a very familiar Maybach.
The rear window of the car was slowly closing, and through the half-open gap, she could see half of a man's face.
Just a glimpse was enough for her to recognize him.
'If I'm not mistaken, that's Jaxon.
'Why would he suddenly come here? Did he see everything that just happened?' Numerous questions swirled in her mind, refusing to dissipate.
Sally watched the car drive further and further away before averting her gaze.
"Sally, patients are starting to come in. We need to start seeing them," a familiar voice said beside her just then.
Sally turned at the sound and saw Carlos' handsome face.
She glanced at him, then her gaze fell on Elise. "I'll handle the patients. You stay out here and keep an eye on her. Let her go after half an hour."
Carlos replied softly, "Got it."
After Sally went inside, Carlos walked up to Elise Tatum and asked curiously, "Miss Tatum, you doing okay?"
