"Surely you don't think I don't want to divorce you, do you?" Brad didn't respond to Sally, but instead, questioned her.
Sally looked up at Brad, whose gaze was gradually darkening.
"Mrs. Zale's medical skills are so superb. With her here, what could possibly happen to your grandpa?" An extremely indifferent voice came from behind Sally.
Her back involuntarily stiffened for a moment. Jaxon had emerged.
"Jaxon?" Brad quickly rose from the sofa upon seeing Jaxon.
Jaxon walked over to Sally's side and sat down next to her. He placed his hand on the back of the sofa, crossed his long legs, and exuded an air of nobility and elegance.
Although Sally sat up straight and relatively forward, Brad couldn't shake the feeling that the two of them seemed extremely intimate at this moment. Especially, the atmosphere between them was strange and inexplicable.
"I didn't really want to get involved in this matter. Since you've decided to divorce, dragging it out is never a solution." Jaxon's upturned eyes had a hint of light red. "Brad, don't you think so?"
"I'm just worried about Grandpa's health." Brad made an excuse.
"I'm sick of hearing that, not to mention Mrs. Zale." Jaxon reached out his hand from the back of the chair and fiddled with his ear, the atmosphere suddenly becoming very gloomy.
Sally could distinctly feel the tension between Jaxon and Brad. If this stalemate persisted, she was worried that Jaxon might blurt out something even more abrupt, making the situation even more unmanageable.
She quickly turned her head and looked at Jaxon. "Jaxon, you came to see Nick, right? You haven't even gone up to see him yet. What if your father blames you for that?"
At her words, the crimson in Jaxon's eyes deepened. She was essentially asking him to leave.
However, Jaxon showed no sign of annoyance, tapping his fingers on the back of the sofa intermittently.
His tone was indifferent. "Mrs. Zale, you just examined him. If Nick really felt unwell, you wouldn't be sitting here so calmly, would you?"
Sally's hand on her lap unconsciously clenched for a moment. Although his tone was calm, she could detect a hint of displeasure in his composed voice.
Seeing Sally's lack of response, Brad, sitting opposite, replied softly, "Yes, his condition has indeed improved after taking the medicine. If he takes two more doses tomorrow, he should be fully recovered."
The atmosphere beside her grew increasingly intense. Sally really couldn't stay any longer.
She quickly got up from the sofa. "Since Nick is better now, I'll head back. I'll prepare the medicine tomorrow and have Carlos deliver it. Just have the maid put it in the fridge and give it to him on time these next few days."
Brad nodded softly. "Alright."
No sooner had she left than Jaxon followed.
"Jaxon, are you leaving too?" Brad said.
"Yes, take good care of Nick," Jaxon said casually.
"Okay, Jaxon, see you." Brad nodded.
The voices of Brad and Jaxon came from behind Sally.
As Sally walked outside, the heavy rain had stopped, leaving only a few scattered droplets falling from the sky.
Sally, holding a black umbrella, quickly made her way to the driver's side. As she was about to pull open the car door, Jaxon grabbed her wrist.
Sally's heart leaped into her throat. She instinctively glanced toward the courtyard, relieved to see that the gate was tightly closed.
"Mrs. Zale, what did you mean just now? Were you trying to deliberately drive me away?" Jaxon's low voice reached her ears, and Sally's grip on the umbrella handle tightened.
"Mr. Zale, I was just worried that you might say something inappropriate in that situation and affect everyone's relationships." Sally tugged at her wrist, trying to free her hand from his grasp.
"Oh, really?" Jaxon's grip on her wrist suddenly tightened, his tone nonchalant. "So you're worried about what inappropriate words I might say? Why don't you elaborate?"
"Mr. Zale, I'm not joking with you," as she said, she raised her shimmering eyes and looked at him seriously.
"And where did you get the idea that I was joking with you?" Jaxon sneered.
Sally was afraid that he might treat her the same way he did in the warehouse, and her heart began to sink.
After all, there were cameras at the entrance. Although they might not capture this angle, it still wouldn't be appropriate if someone happened to see them.
Jaxon leaned in close to her ear, speaking in a voice only the two of them could hear. "You're afraid I'll tell him we've kissed and almost slept together, aren't you?"
Sally's eyelashes fluttered uncontrollably. Every time she got close to Jaxon, she easily became nervous. His every word felt like a blow to her spirit. It wasn't a pleasant feeling.
"It's getting late. Mr. Zale, you should head home early. Thank you for coming to see Nick today," she said.
Sally mustered all her strength to break free from his grasp. She quickly opened the car door and got in without hesitation.
As soon as Sally closed the car door, she stepped on the gas and sped off. She never once looked back at him.
Jaxon stood by the window, watching her leave.
By the time Jaxon got home, it was already nine o'clock. He had barely stopped the car when Wendy approached him. "Mr. Zale, Mr. Faye is here, in the living room."
Jaxon's brow furrowed slightly. Connor wouldn't come to see him unless there was something important. "Alright, you can go."
Jaxon strode quickly toward the living room. Connor was sitting in the middle of the living room sofa, making coffee for himself. He turned his head abruptly at the sound of footsteps.
When Connor saw Jaxon, the corners of his mouth curled up involuntarily. "On a rainy day like this, you still have social engagements? You're really working hard. I can't even compare to you."
"I went to the Orchard Villa." Jaxon sat down opposite him and looked up at him. "You came to see me so late. There must be something on your mind."
"Do you remember when I got drugged at the dinner party at your house?" Connor said.
Jaxon responded softly, "Yes."
Connor poured a cup of coffee and handed it to Jaxon. "I had someone investigate later. Guess what?"
"Cut to the chase and tell me." Jaxon picked up the cup on the table and drank it in one gulp.
"It turns out Lena orchestrated it through her best friend Elise." Connor lowered his voice significantly. "You might not know Elise, but you should know Lena, right? She's the woman by Brad's side."
