The man's eyes held a glimmer of hope as Marlow hesitantly asked, "Do we know each other?"
Of course...
Camden smiled ruefully, handsome features clouding with disappointment. When would he ever be more than a stranger in Marlow's eyes?
Neither noticed the camera flash from a hidden corner.
Seeing Camden's silence, Marlow assumed he'd mistaken her for someone else.
She offered a distant thank you and turned to leave, but Camden gently blocked her path.
He handed her a business card, his voice sincere and warm. "If you ever need anything, please call me. I swear I'm not some random stalker."
Before she could respond, he turned and jogged away, as if afraid of rejection.
Only when she examined the card did Marlow realize he was Camden—the A-list celebrity whose name had been linked with hers in trending hashtags across Twitter.
Meanwhile, across town, Gregory was in a destructive rage, demolishing the entire living room.
Victoria and Jade cowered in a corner of the sofa, afraid to speak. Suddenly, Gregory turned to Jade with a calculating look.
"Get yourself together. You're coming to the office with me tomorrow."
Jade froze, unsure of her father's intentions.
Gregory's face twisted into a cruel smile. "If we can't inherit the fortune, we'll simply take it by force. The company will bear the Reynolds name!"
The next day, Gregory boldly convened a press conference to announce Jade's appointment to the management team.
"My daughter has received an elite education from Harvard Business School. Her abilities and qualifications are exceptional. I will groom her as the company's next CEO, and I hope you'll all support her."
It was obvious to everyone that Gregory had stopped concealing his ambitions.
He intended to usurp the entire company.
Some company veterans in the audience objected. "This isn't right, Mr. Reynolds. The company is Ms. Evelyn Reeves' legacy. If anyone should inherit, it certainly isn't the daughter of your mistress."
Jade's face darkened with resentment.
"Mistress? I'm his daughter too!" she shot back. "Besides, even if you want Marlow to inherit, she'd have to be brave enough to challenge us. I dare her to try!"
"Who says I'm not brave enough?"
The boardroom door creaked open.
Marlow stood in the doorway, a half-smile playing on her lips, her eyes cold and piercing. The natural authority she exuded immediately silenced the room.
She surveyed the crowd before walking in, each step projecting such commanding presence that people couldn't help but be impressed by her sheer force of personality.
Gregory's face darkened. "What are you doing here?"
Marlow walked to the podium with a mocking smile, meeting Gregory's furious gaze.
"I'm here to announce some excellent news."
She snapped her fingers, and Walter emerged from behind her, carrying a stack of documents.
Seeing Walter, Gregory visibly paled, sweat beading on his forehead.
Walter's voice rang out clear and authoritative.
"As the appointed attorney for the late Mrs. Evelyn Reeves, I can confirm that according to her will, 95% of her estate has been inherited by Ms. Marlow Reeves. The transfer was completed last night, which means—"
Walter paused, smiling at Gregory.
"The current controlling owner of Reeves Industries is Ms. Marlow Reeves."
His announcement sent shockwaves through the room.
Gregory's eyes bulged as he struggled to breathe.
Now he understood everything—Marlow had played him for a fool!
From that day at the hospital, she'd been manipulating him at every turn!
Suddenly, a reporter stood up. "Ms. Reeves! Photos of you and Camden in an intimate moment have just leaked online. What is your relationship with him?"
Simultaneously, security called to report that Camden's fans had surrounded the building, demanding answers from Marlow.
For a moment, Marlow recalled those earnest, vulnerable eyes.
"Camden..."
Gregory seized this potential weakness, his tone mocking.
"You're an ex-con with blood on your hands, now embroiled in a scandal with some actor. You have no business running this company!"
Several executives loyal to Gregory chimed in:
"Ms. Reeves, please don't destroy generations of hard work."
"Someone who's been to prison should be sweeping streets, not sitting in a boardroom!"
As the barrage of insults flew at her, Marlow simply laughed.
Her cold laughter echoed through the hall, immediately silencing the chaotic room.
"According to Delaware General Corporation Law Section 242(c)(2), any shareholder who holds more than two-thirds of company shares has the right to unilaterally approve amendments to the corporate charter without requiring a separate class vote. Effectively, this grants the controlling shareholder complete authority over the company's direction."
Marlow tossed the documents onto the table, clearly showing that she held 67% of shares.
"And what do you know? That absolute control is in my hands. If I wanted to, I could fire every single one of you right now with a single signature!"
Though her voice remained level, it carried an undeniable authority that no one dared challenge.
Everyone understood that with over two-thirds shareholding, her position was unassailable under American corporate law.
Marlow's lips curved upward as she addressed the group. "You're all too established in your careers to risk your reputations by backing the wrong horse."
This warning resonated like a final bell in their minds.
The executives standing behind Gregory exchanged glances before silently moving to Marlow's side.
Gregory trembled with rage, his face a sickly shade of purple.
"I told you once—don't challenge my expertise with your ignorance."
Marlow's red lips formed a radiant smile.
"Dad, you've lost."
