Riley had truly let him go.
But she'd never wanted Blake to destroy himself.
She'd thought the best thing for both of them was to stay apart for good.
They'd each have their own lives, make their own choices.
She never expected Blake to become so obsessed with her after their divorce.
All the hurt he'd carelessly inflicted was now magnified a thousand times, eating away at him.
Consumed by guilt and self-loathing, he'd chosen to destroy himself.
Seeing her sitting there in silence, Ethan came to sit beside her.
Riley seemed to be reliving her entire past—all those moments of desperate love and crushing heartbreak.
Now they felt like wisps of memory floating through her mind.
She leaned into Ethan's warmth.
"Whatever you decide, I'll be right here with you."
Ethan pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
Riley came back to the city with Ethan.
She never thought she'd return under these circumstances.
And she definitely never imagined seeing Blake like this.
He looked terrible—so much thinner, completely worn down.
His hollow eyes only sparked to life when he saw her walk in.
He tried to speak but kept choking on his words, unable to get a complete sentence out.
Finally, when the guard prompted him, he managed to whisper:
"Is he... is he good to you?"
"Very good." Riley looked at Blake with complicated emotions.
Ethan really was wonderful to her—loving, devoted, protective.
Because of him, she'd been able to heal from the damage Blake had done.
Also because of him, she'd learned to let go instead of holding onto hate.
Tears rolled down Blake's face, sliding slowly to the corners of his mouth.
Only he knew how bitter they tasted.
"That's enough for me."
Those were his last words to her.
The Harrison family cut Blake loose completely.
They had no use for a son with no fight left and a criminal record.
Blake's father's bastard son immediately took control of Harrison Industries.
The family erased every trace that Blake had ever existed.
Marcus tried to give Riley the thousands of love letters Blake had written to her over the years.
But Riley refused to take them.
"Some things from the past should stay in the past."
Riley left the city behind for good.
Those thousands of letters were locked away forever—just like those memories, lost to time.
