Royal Deception - Chapter 1: Chapter 1

"Are you sure it says Oxford?" asked my mother for the umpteenth time now.
Was it that hard to believe.
"Yes mother it says Oxford University"
I said for the billionth time holding my approved application letter.
"But we cant afford that Oli I'm tryi-"
"Mom it's a scholarship you're not going to pay for anything"
finally she kept quiet however she appeared to be closely calculating something
"But baby I don't want you to leave me "
I was waiting for her to say that , I also dreaded leaving her. Being an only child with a single mother made me too attached to my mother.
"But mom I want to go I want to build a future for us you can't keep me here "
I wouldn't cower infront of her nomatter how hard it was. There was no way I was spending the rest of my life in our three bedroom apartment no way , nadah I was going to university even if I had to fight tooth and nail. Besides I was doing this for us.
"When do you leave?" she asked .
Bingo, and that's just how you do it . I'd won this match. Man I felt so accomplished.
"A few weeks from now" technically I opened my application letter late , it arrived two weeks ago but after my instincts battled I decided not to open it until today. Fear , blame the fear not me , but the point is the letter specifically says I leave in two weeks.
Two weeks!
"Sweetheart when is a few weeks from now" voiced my mother.
"Two weeks"
"Two weeks!" She paused "That's too soon"
"I know mother everything is going to be fine ok" I assured her with a hug.
University, I was going to university.
A stupid grin was plastered on my face. I almost forgot I was hugging someone the excitement was killing me.
"Oli you need to be careful , England is a big state "
"I will be mom"
"I hear the British are handsome, my child dont let the looks deceive you."
She said and I internally groaned. This talk again?
"Mom , I am not going there for boys I repeat I am not going there for boys my mission is to learn besides can we save this for when I leave."
"I said the same thing the summer I met your father " she said with a sad smile.
Mom rarely talks about dad , ahhh my father . Let's save his story for another day , right now i have university jitters.
"What do you want for dinner?"
Mom asked with a sad face , I couldn't pin why she was upset , was it about me leaving or the memory of dad.
I hate seeing my mother down it makes me feel like I failed my duty to keep her happy.
"Let's make our favourite meal together" I said trying to elicit a smile from her.
"Mac and cheese" the two of us yelled at the same time which seemed to have made her smile. Mission accomplished.
We made our dinner singing along to affection by cigarettes after sex, which by the way is our favourite band. If you ask me my mom is like my bestfriend.
Apparently if you're poor noone wants to associate with you part of the seven truths of life , and I speak from experience.
When we were both done i set the table and we ate in silence. I was still overwhelmed by the fact that I was going to university and not just any university, Oxford University.
How do i explain my excitement to you.
