“You’re blackmailing ME?” Whitney scoffed again. Her gaze turned into a glare. There was silence that remained between us for a minute. I stared back at her assuring her that I won’t back down as she stared at me out of curiosity.
“Well . . . Do we have a deal?” I asked folding my arms.
“Your reputation would drop as much as me if you tell the whole school about the way we kissed”
“Here’s the thing, they know me too well and I’ll make sure to tell them all the ‘sloppy ‘details. The students of this school happen to have a very vivid imagination, so I can only imagine how quickly the news would spread. Oh and don’t you worry about my reputation, I have none, that’s why I am so popular.” I shot at her.
It felt good to play the mean girl. Yuri must be so proud of me, right now.
“Fine. I won’t tell on you. Just keep the closet incident a secret.”
Whitney’s voice turned into her fake pity voice and it nearly turned me blue. I was glad I got to Whitney in time before she went to the authorities to rat me out. I remembered my random kiss with Whitney in the bathroom, which had reached to Whitney’s parents. Poor girl had been trying for weeks to explain to her overly religious parents that she was straight and if the closet incident gets out, then Whitney is gone for good. Using that information against her wasn’t something I wanted to do. But I had to, in order to protect Yuri; I need to be reliable to her.
I made my way back home. What a day. Yuri’s mom was finally working with her clients; I’m guessing Yuri finally had managed to talk her into getting back to work and meeting clients. After Yuri’s father’s outburst, everything seemed like it was going at a slow pace. I walked inside my room and locked the door. I made a huge jump on the bed and laid on it just staring at the ceiling. I couldn’t get her out of my mind. I need to get her out of my mind. But I keep recalling Belle leaning forward to kiss me and I keep recalling that feeling I got when our lips met at the first time.
Oh Belle. My heart sang. I had already fallen for her, but I was too late. There were a million reasons why I can’t date Belle or anyone. Online dating seemed fairly reasonable; I could always do long distance. I wished I could have a long distance relationship with Belle, but given Yuri’s history with her, Belle would always ask me to choose. Something I am incapable of doing.
I tried to shake out my feelings but deep down I knew I wanted to be with Belle and only Belle. I stood up on the bed, not wanting to recall anymore memories. My focus went back to the laptop, and then I remembered I had logged onto a dating site. Realizing that I was desperately in need of a moving on phase, I decided check it out.
“Okay, let’s see” I muttered under my breath scrolling down at the possible candidates.
This was lame, and I knew it. But I was desperate; so far my attempts of moving on required more attention than helping out Yuri. Because it was affecting my behavior in ways I wish it didn’t. I stumbled across two names which caught my attention.
“Britney Paynes” Her profile seemed okay. And she looked alright as well but her name was too similar to a bitch I punched in school. Whitney. That cold ass bitch!
Closing her profile, I decided to give the other girl a try. Her profile seemed nicer but her picture wasn’t up so I couldn’t quite figure out how she looked like. I sent her a request, hoping to try and communicate with her or with anyone at this point. I needed to move on and live my life happily, accepting the life I have to share with Yuri, and be grateful to be in it than not existing at all.

Wednesday. It’s always the bad luck day of the week. Yuri recalled every bad incident that occurred in her life and each one of those happened on a Wednesday. Was that a coincidence? Who knew? Today was a Wednesday as well and what was about to occur was far more than what Yuri had anticipated. Yuri’s phone buzzed in her pockets making her stop staring at the mirror looking at her belly. Was she getting fat?
“Sasha needs to stop eating so much” She murmured, checking her phone.
“Yuri any update on the site?”
Jason’s text had gotten Yuri anxious. If he texted something like this while Sasha was around, then she’d figure out Yuri’s curiosity and that is something she wasn’t ready for Sasha to find out yet. Heck, ever.
“New rule, I’ll only tell you if you stop texting me about it and start emailing me instead”
Yuri sent a reply. She knew she’d have to change her password and make sure she was the only one who can have access to it. In order to keep Sasha in the dark, she made sure it wasn’t always logged in. Just as she logged onto her mail, she received a message from Jason from windows messenger.
“So . . .”
“Why are you so eager to find out?”
“Can you blame a guy for finding this amusing? ;)”
“There is absolutely nothing to be amazed about!”
“You’re always cute when you deny”
“Are you flirting with me Jason Haynes? :P”
“Only to make sure, you aren’t on the other team ;)”
“Pervert”
“Girl kisser”
“Lesbian Fantasizer”
“Two Team Player”
“Relationship Wrecker”
“Ouch. Whitney Puncher!”
“Wait . . What?”
Yuri stopped writing unable to quite make out what Jason had meant by Whitney Puncher. She took her phone and dialed Jason’s number out of curiosity. It seemed like she had a lot of curiosities to worry about lately in her life.
“Did I cross the line?” Jason’s voice boomed on the phone.
“What do you mean, Whitney Puncher?” Yuri asked casually.
“You thought I wouldn’t know? I followed you two at the back of the library thinking Whitney might do something horrible to you but I came only to find you punching her right at her face. I managed to send all the students away so none of them could see the fight. You owe me big time!” Jason explained.
Sasha punched Whitney? How? Why?
“Do you happen to know why Sash – err, why I punched Whitney?”
“Hey I am not judging, you don’t need to give me a reason. That bitch deserved it. Especially after forcing herself on me the first week she came to school”
“She did WHAT?”
“You didn’t know? I thought Belle would tell you, she saw it and turned away before I could defend myself”
“Belle must’ve told Sasha” Yuri thought. But Sasha didn’t share that information probably because she didn’t want to apply salt to an un-healing wound.
“Explain Penelope to me and then we can finally let this go” Yuri demanded.
“I kissed her so you could move on”
“You knew I saw?”
“Hmm. I figured if I gave you more reasons to hate me then you won’t hurt over a lost cause relationship”
“Oh”
Ouch. It had pained Yuri to hear those words but she was finally getting the closure she deserved from Jason. Though he had unreasonable ways of making her come to realize that she and Jason could only maintain friendship nothing more, Yuri was glad they had finally crossed that path together.
“It’s okay, I am totally over it now” Yuri meant her words.
“Now can we go back to talking about the site?”
“Jason, before I do this, I need you to trust me when I tell you not to ever mention the site or anything about this to me beforehand. We are only allowed to talk if I ‘start’ talking to you about it, okay?”
“Why? Because you have mood swings?” Jason joked.
“Something like that. When the time comes, I’ll explain it to you but for now, no texting just send me an email if you want to know more stuff, and do not talk to me about it in school ever”
“Fine. Fine. Update me if you meet a girl, promise?”
“Yeah yeah yeah, whatever”
“Goodnight Baby” Hearing him say those words made Yuri happy and sad at the same time.
“Goodnight Haynes”
After hanging up the phone, Yuri’s mind had finally come to an ease. But Sasha punching Whitney was still a mystery.
“I’ll have to ask her about it” she thought.
Yuri carried her laptop back to her bed so she could lie down and have a look at the dating site peacefully. Having second thoughts about the site she tried to check if she could unregister herself and forget she even tried a lesbian dating online site, until something caught her eyes.
She had several friend requests. None of them seemed to appeal to her until she saw one request that caught her off guard.
One request she wasn’t sure she should accept.
One request which would change her life.
One request that she accepted without a blink of an eye.
