The Golden Wolves Institute wasn't just any secret organization—it was a sanctuary for the chosen. Run by wolves blessed with divine power from the Moon Goddess, they watched over pure souls who, despite their devotion, suffered endlessly in life. The Golden Wolves guided these souls in secret, ensuring their rebirth and helping them avoid the same mistakes in their second chance.
The mysterious professor I'd seen earlier? Turns out he was my mentor. Hades—his name suited him, all dark intensity and quiet authority. He'd been assigned to guide me in this new life, and he made one thing clear: not every wolf got an invitation to the Institute, no matter how many lifetimes they lived. I was different. Obsessed.
In my past life, I'd let my dream slip away. This time? I chased it without hesitation. That determination was what caught Hades' attention—and earned his help.
Now, I wasn't just another wolf. I was something more. Blessed by the Moon Goddess, tasked with easing the pain of others who'd suffered like I had.
Under the glow of the full moon, Dylan and Marcus—the two dominant pack wolves who'd once been my closest friends—felt the weight of their mistakes settle in their chests. Their mountain trip had been a distraction, but now, back in the city, the hollowness hit hard.
Memories of me—our childhood, our bond—flooded their minds. But so did the sting of our last encounter. They'd let Amy go too far. Now, all that remained was regret.
Determined to fix things, they showed up at the hospital with gifts for my grandmother. But two massive, unfamiliar werewolves blocked their path. "Old Luna is under our protection. Don't disturb her."
Marcus's temper flared, but Dylan held him back. These weren't ordinary wolves. And whatever was happening with my grandmother? It reeked of secrets.
"Where's Bella?" Dylan demanded, voice steady. "Let her come out and tell you herself whether we're outsiders or not."
The reply was ice. "No need."
Defeated, they retreated—Marcus seething, Dylan's worry deepening. Where was I? Why had I cut them off completely?
Their unease grew as they reached my family's den. Dark. Empty. The scent of dust and abandonment clung to the air. Marcus's anger faded into dread as they sifted through remnants of our past.
"Where the hell did she go?" Dylan whispered.
They sent their guards scouring the city until dawn. But I was gone. No ID, no financial trails, no trace left behind. The one person who knew my whereabouts? Unreachable.
I'd vanished.
Dylan and Marcus spiraled. They ignored Amy's calls, too consumed by the questions gnawing at them:
Where is she?
Did she leave us for good?
Will she ever forgive us?
Silence answered. The girl who'd once been the heart of their world was now just a memory.
Elder Victor's wrinkled hand rested on my shoulder. "You're doing well, Ava. I worried your past might haunt you, but look at you now." His eyes gleamed with pride. "The Institute's future is safe in your generation's hands."
"He's right," Hades added, nodding to the elder. "Bella's picking up our methods faster than expected."
I smiled. For the first time, I belonged. My new life as a Golden Wolf was demanding, but nothing compared to the hell I'd endured before.
Then—I saw them.
Dylan and Marcus stood at the edge of the training grounds, their designer clothes and arrogant postures screaming outsiders. I blinked, sure I was imagining it—until Marcus's voice cut through the air.
"Bella? What the hell are you doing here?" His glare flicked to Hades, lip curling. "You belong with us, not these… strays."
Hades' warning growl vibrated against my side. "Careful, Bella. They're trouble."
And just like that, my past and present collided.
