Freedom surged through me as I ripped the admission letter to shreds. This time, I wouldn't let Dylan, Marcus, or Amy dictate my future.
I strode to my desk and grabbed the hidden application for Golden Wolves University—the kingdom's most elite institution, whispered about in shadows. Most believed it was just another werewolf academy, but the truth? It was run by Lycans. They handpicked only the most exceptional werewolves, transforming them into something untouchable. I'd clawed my way to this chance once before, only to throw it away for the sake of my so-called mates and their precious Lunar Alpha's Academy.
Not again.
This time, my dreams came first. No more playing the fool for love. No more betrayals.
Filling out the form, my pulse raced with something I hadn't felt in years: anticipation. This was my life, my choice.
I sealed the envelope, tucking it into my pocket with a satisfied exhale. Just one last document—my character certificate—and I'd be free. But as I turned toward the dean's office, my phone buzzed.
Dylan and Marcus.
"Meet us outside. Surprise for you."
I almost laughed. Oh, I knew their "surprise." In my past life, it had been a twisted declaration—their real mate, Amy, standing between them while they shattered my heart. Not today. I silenced my phone and kept walking.
The hallway felt like a minefield. Whispers slithered after me, punctuated by snickers. Then a shove sent me crashing down the stairs. Books exploded across the floor; my knee screamed as it hit concrete.
"Watch it, jerk," I snarled, glaring up—but the culprit melted into the crowd, leaving me surrounded by smirks and disgusted stares. Like I was something filthy.
Then I heard her.
Amy's voice, sugar-coated and sly, floated from around the corner:
"I did see Bella getting out of the Lunar directors' car late at night… but maybe she earned her spot."
A scoff. "Stop defending her, Amy. She's never even shown her wolf. Probably some runt she's ashamed of."
"Or she's screwing her way to power."
My jaw clenched. Golden Wolves valued secrecy—that's why I'd hidden my strength, even as my pack mocked me for being "weak." And these two? They knew the truth. They'd seen my wolf the night I lost control, howling and massive enough to send seasoned warriors scrambling. Yet here they were, lapping up Amy's lies.
Fine. Let them.
Soon, Golden Wolves would erase my past. No more pack. No more fake mates. Just me—and the future I should've taken the first time.
I straightened my spine and walked right past them, chin high. The certificate was in my hand within minutes.
Time to face Dylan and Marcus one last time.
