Renee was the only one who didn't wear a formal dress.
She was dressed in a cashmere overcoat, jeans, and black boots with high heels. Her hair was tied back neatly for work. She had an air of casual elegance, like a wealthy woman going out for a leisurely stroll.
Even if she dressed in such an inconspicuous manner, she would immediately attract everyone's attention.
Renee had been blessed with the ability to attract attention since she was a child.
Whatever the reason might have been, it was evident that Renee didn't care about Vivian’s party enough to wear a formal dress.
"It doesn't matter. What you're wearing is good enough, Miss Hudson." From Vivian’s tone, one could infer that she didn't understand what Renee meant. She turned to look at Marcelo and said, “Marcelo, I have something to tell you."
After saying this,Vivian flicked a glance at Renee.
Obviously, she wanted to talk to Marcelo alone.
Marcelo did not think that her request was anything out of the ordinary. He told Renee to mingle with the guests until he turned and followed Vivian to another side of the room.
The guests remained clueless and couldn't grasp the situation. They started muttering amongst themselves.
"This is Vivian’s welcome party, so what is Renee doing here? Shit! The atmosphere is so tense!"
"I don't know why Marcelo brought Renee here."
"Oh, his new girlfriend and old flame have yet to fight. These two are really calm."
"The rumors about Renee and Marcelo have been circulating for quite some time now. Why haven't they broken up yet?"
"There's no way Renee can compete with Vivian. I heard Marcelo planned this entire party based on her preferences."
"Oh, I have something even juicier to share. Vivian majored in jewelry design. I hear that Marcelo sends her all kinds of gem materials every year, so she can practice as she likes."
"It's normal. Marcelo has always doted on her since they were children. For so many years, with the exception of Renee, Vivian is the only woman who has been able to get close to him."
"The two of them are whispering to each other over there! They are quite a good match!"
"I suddenly feel that Renee is so miserable!"
All the people present today were Vivian’s friends, so they naturally spoke in her defense.
Perched on the armchair, Renee rested her chin in her hand as she silently absorbed the murmurs of these individuals.
Her expression remained calm and unruffled, as if the subject being discussed did not pertain to her at all.
"Miss Hudson, how do you feel seeing your husband with another woman?"Alyssa asked slyly as she approached Renee, a glass of champagne in her hand.
Renee took her eyes off Marcelo and Vivian who were talking alone not far away and looked at Alyssa.
She scoffed, "Miss Miguel, your question is pointless."
"What do you mean?"
"You don't have a husband. You can't understand even if I tell you."Renee’s expression twisted into a sneer as she taunted, "Or maybe what you really want to know is how you will feel when your husband is with another woman in the future?"
"Don't spout nonsense,Renee! My future husband will definitely love me wholeheartedly!"Alyssa glared at Renee.
While her angry voice was loud and attracted the attention of everyone around them, none of them could figure out the reason for her outburst.
Subconsciously,Marcelo turned his head to stare at Renee. When she looked back at him, there was a faint smile on her face, which was in stark contrast to the provocation in her eyes.
The fire in her eyes seemed to be making it clear that it was his fault that other people were dissatisfied with her.
Marcelo pursed his lips and looked at the woman who was driving a wedge between them.
Alyssa could feel the chill of Marcelo’s glare, causing her to tremble and lower her head. She quickly tried to play it off like she hadn't said anything at all.
"Miss Miguel, there is something that remains unclear to me."Renee stopped looking at Marcelo and shifted her attention to Alyssa. "Since Marcelo doesn’t like you,why don’t you just move on?instead you choose to cause me headache all the time? What are you hoping to gain from all your tantrums?”
"It's better for Vivian to get Mr. King than for someone like you to get him!"
Alyssa could not accept a world in which Renee was the woman Marcelo chose to spend his life with.
She was painfully aware that she could never measure up to Vivian. When she heard that Vivian was not in the country, she thought she had a chance, but then Renee suddenly showed up from nowhere and snatched Marcelo right from under her nose!
Alyssa had known Marcelo longer than Renee did. The Miguel family had a close relationship with Marcelo, a fact Renee’s family couldn't boast of, and to make matters worse,Renee came from a troubled family!
Alyssa would never accept the fact that a woman like that defeated her!
"Marcelo, I have something to ask you. You and Miss Hudson..."
Vivian struggled to suppress her knowledge of the situation, but it would be odd if she didn't inquire about it. After all, Marcelo had brought Renee here today.
Marcelo didn't say anything.
He didn't like it when others hesitated and waited for him to speak first.
Vivian couldn't bear the silence anymore and had to say, "I've heard the rumors about you and Miss Hudson and the nature of your relationship...some people say you’re dating her,is it true?"
It was impossible to determine if she was asking whether the gossip was true or if the relationship was real.
Marcelo said indifferently, "The gossip is fake."
A small smile curved Vivian’s lips and she was in the process of breathing a sigh of relief when Marcelo shattered her happiness with his next words.
"But the relationship between her and me is real."
"I…What?"
Vivian heard what he said, but the manner in which he said them made it difficult for her to understand him.
Marcelo glanced at the woman in the luxurious cashmere overcoat a few feet away. She sat on the sofa, her delicate hands cradling her chin.
His Renee. She was as still and stunning as a painting, and her thoughts were a mystery to everyone around her.
He looked away from Renee and addressed Vivian who was standing right in front of him. "Vivian,Renee is my wife. Not my girlfriend. We are married.”
The revelation hit Vivian like a truck.
