Pretty obvious where Alaric spent the night.
"You're actually leaving?"
Alaric's eyes locked onto my suitcase, his voice turning ice cold.
Before I could answer, he ripped the handle out of my grip and stalked into the living room.
He tossed my suitcase aside like garbage, then threw himself onto the Italian leather sofa—legs crossed, arms folded, staring me down with those cold brown eyes.
"Okay, enough with the tantrum. Why are you being such a complete bitch about this?"
"Jesus, fine! You win, okay? Come here and let me hold you."
He actually had the nerve to open his arms like I was some lovesick puppy who'd just run into them.
I didn't move an inch. "Sign the divorce papers yet?"
Alaric's jaw tightened: "Isolde, don't push your fucking luck!"
"You know damn well I'm never divorcing you. I didn't do shit wrong!"
I laughed bitterly. "Oh really? Then maybe you can explain where you were all night and whose lipstick is smeared all over your collar?"
Alaric glanced down in shock, finally noticing the red stain. His face twisted with annoyance.
"Jesus, it's nothing! I drove Aurora home last night and she fell asleep in the car. Her head was on my shoulder—it just rubbed off, okay?"
Right then, Alaric's phone started ringing.
Aurora's name lit up the screen.
Aurora was sobbing hysterically on the other end: "Mr. Marchand, please help me..."
Alaric went into full panic mode.
Turns out Aurora's deadbeat dad had racked up massive gambling debts and fled the country.
Now the loan sharks couldn't find him, so they'd shown up at her apartment looking for her instead.
The poor little princess had never dealt with real-world problems before, so naturally she called her sugar daddy for backup.
"Don't worry, I'm on my way right now!"
Alaric was already grabbing his keys while sweet-talking her through the phone.
At the door, he barely glanced back at me.
"These debt collectors are dangerous. Aurora can't handle this alone. Wait here—I'll be back soon!"
Old me would've lost my mind—screaming, throwing things, anything to keep him from running to rescue his side piece.
Now I just nodded. "Go ahead."
Something flickered across Alaric's face—confusion, maybe even disappointment.
But he didn't have time to analyze it. He was already out the door.
I let out a bitter laugh and picked up my suitcase again. Two security guards immediately blocked my path.
"Sorry ma'am. Mr. Marchand's orders, ma'am. You're not allowed to leave until he gets back."
I was fucking furious.
Alaric was literally holding me prisoner in my own house?
I tried pushing past them, but these guys weren't budging.
Left with no choice, I collapsed onto the sofa to wait for His Majesty's return.
Hours crawled by. Alaric finally rolled up around sunset..
His Bentley pulled into the circular driveway.
I shoved past the guards and stormed outside: "What gives you the fucking right to keep me here against my will?"
Alaric ignored me completely, walking around to open the passenger door for Aurora.
She stepped out looking like a wounded deer—red-rimmed eyes, the whole fragile victim act.
Alaric kept his protective arm around her waist as he announced:
"Aurora's apartment isn't safe anymore. She'll be staying with us until we find her somewhere new."
"Try to be an adult about this and lay off her, alright? The girl's been through enough shit today."
I burst out laughing.
"Why make it complicated? Just sign the fucking divorce papers and you two can share a bed for all you want. Problem solved—I'm gone!"
Aurora immediately went into innocent-victim mode.
"Mrs. Marchand, please don't get the wrong idea! Mr. Marchand is just being kind. There's absolutely nothing inappropriate between us—your mind is in the gutter!"
"My mind's in the gutter? All I want is a divorce! What's the matter, Alaric—can't bear to let me go?"
I was pulling out every manipulation tactic in the book to get him to sign those papers.
Alaric had always been Mr. Perfect Golden Boy—his ego couldn't handle being challenged like this.
His face went dark as he snarled:
"Fine! You want a divorce? You got it!"
"Can't wait to watch you crash and burn without me!"
"Don't come crawling back begging for another chance when you regret it!"
