"Mind stepping aside so I can grab my trophy?"
Leander just stood there looking totally lost before finally moving out of Lucien's way.
After a few minutes of brain lag, he came charging over to me all pissed off.
"Thalia, what kind of crap did you pull? No way in hell my company isn't first!"
He was staring at the numbers showing the gap between his company and Lucien's.
"You must've jacked projects from my company to get him the win."
I didn't say anything, just sat there watching him have his meltdown.
Leander took my silence as guilt—like I couldn't come up with a defense.
He started making a scene, demanding they double-check both companies' sales and profits.
The event crew were getting seriously annoyed, muttering.
"Are you kidding me right now? When he was winning, nobody wanted recounts. Someone else takes first and suddenly the numbers are wrong? Talk about a sore loser."
Leander's face went all red and splotchy.
All his little fan club from earlier flipped and started brown-nosing Lucien instead.
"Dude, Leander, can't take the L? The gap's not even close—you're just making yourself look pathetic."
"For real, when you were on top the data was solid, but now someone else wins and you're crying fraud? Lucien's got better shit to do than babysit your tantrum!"
Lucien stayed cool about it though.
"Whatever, I'm okay. If Leander wants to audit everything again, knock yourself out. Let's make sure he loses with no excuses."
The tech guys pulled up both companies' financials.
Leander was glued to that screen, hunting for any tiny mistake.
But numbers don't lie—everything checked out. He was ready to throw in the towel.
Then Isolde spotted those two deals I took when I bailed from the company.
"Hold up, those two projects look fishy. Leander signed off on those—how are they suddenly Lucien's?"
Leander squinted at them and it clicked.
He got all excited, pointing at those contracts like he'd caught me stealing candy.
"Thalia, explain this shit!"
I pulled out the project files on my phone, complete with all the draft.
"I designed both these deals from scratch and closed them myself. And newsflash—I don't work for Leander anymore."
Isolde crunched the dates real quick and jumped in.
"You were still on Leander's payroll back then, before you got the boot. Those deals should be ours."
Leander wrapped his arm around Isolde like she was his secret weapon, getting all worked up again.
"Look, maybe I was gonna dump your ass anyway, but you can't just swipe twenty million in contracts and gift them to your new side piece."
Total BS, but the crowd started turning on me again.
I whipped out the security footage I'd saved earlier.
"When I tried to get Leander's approval on this project, he was too busy 'training' Isolde on office software to even look at it. Never got his signature. I closed these deals solo, and before I could even file the paperwork, I got fired."
"These contracts are 100% mine."
The video showed those two seduced other through the office blinds. Isolde and Leander scrambled to kill the footage.
With no other cards to play, deflated on the spot, and stormed off in frustration.
But Lucien wasn't done with them.
"You finished accusing us, now let's talk about that project you ripped off from Thalia."
He pulled out a stack of project drafts and blueprints he'd gathered up.
"This deal with Summit Group? That's Thalia's work, but somehow it ended up padding your revenue numbers. Think it's time to give that back, don't you?"
