Two years later, a stranger sent me a friend request.
Because of work, I'd always been pretty liberal about accepting requests.
I sent them a greeting message.
They didn't respond.
Their profile picture was a cat, so I couldn't tell their gender.
Just as I was about to click into their social media to get a better sense of who they were, they sent me a digital wedding invitation.
I opened it.
The title read: **We're married | Vincent Thorne & Sienna Marlowe's Wedding Invitation**
The cover photo showed Sienna with a man I didn't recognize.
In the photo, she was beaming with radiant joy.
Just like when she won first place in the jump rope competition at our school sports day and stood on the podium.
I stared at that photo for a long time.
Then I scrolled down to read their love story.
They'd met two years ago, dated for a year and a half, then got engaged and married.
In every single photo, Sienna looked genuinely happy.
I could tell it wasn't posed—it was the real thing.
The man was also handsome and attractive, with a calm, stable presence that seemed very dependable.
I remembered when we used to try guessing what type of guys the other would fall for.
I'd always imagined Sienna would go for exactly this type.
She was so high-energy and chaotic—she needed someone steady who could give her security. Someone who would adore her, watch her cause trouble, watch her laugh.
Back then, Sienna had reacted dramatically to my guess.
"Why would you think I'd like that type? Ha! I don't like guys like that. That's marriage material, sure, but for dating you want someone exciting and passionate!"
"What do you mean by exciting and passionate?"
"Cool guys, hot guys—not the clean-cut type of handsome. I prefer the bad boy kind of sexy. Guys who know how to flirt and charm you, who can make you want to kiss them just by raising an eyebrow..."
I'd thought about it then—Chase fit that description perfectly.
For a moment, I felt disoriented and somewhat melancholy.
I closed the invitation and went to look at Sienna's social media.
She'd had a good two years.
She'd found fulfilling work and was no longer aimless.
She had a new social circle and got along well with her friends.
Her fiancé treated her wonderfully, taking her to amazing places and capturing beautiful photos of their adventures.
I closed her profile and sent her two messages:
"Congratulations on your marriage. I won't be attending the wedding."
"Please don't contact me again."
I blocked and deleted Sienna.
To be honest, on my wedding day, deep down I had hoped Sienna would show up and be there with me through the ceremony.
Even after that awful confrontation we'd had the day before.
But she never came.
She was the first to break the promises we'd made to each other, so I didn't want to go to her wedding either.
Whatever happened to her from now on was none of my business.
