"Are you seriously that pathetic? You can't function without a man in your life? How could you betray me like this? You're throwing away our family for some stranger? What the hell happened to you?"
Her voice was shrill, her grip on my arm like a vise. Every word cut deep, and fury burned through me.
Before I could think, my hand flew out—a sharp crack echoed as my palm connected with his face. "How dare you!" I spat, my voice trembling with rage.
At first, I just wanted to hurt him back, but the more I screamed, the more the pain welled up inside me. Tears blurred my vision as I hurled my accusations—why did he cheat? Why wasn't I enough?
Back then, he had nothing. If it weren't for that damn pretty face of his, I never would've given him the time of day. And now? Now he had the nerve to destroy me.
I lashed out with every cruel word I could muster, watching for the flicker of anger in his eyes. But when I finally stopped, all I saw was stunned confusion.
"Babe, what the hell are you saying? I never cheated on you. You're the one who walked out on me."
His words hit me like a punch to the gut.
I knew him—when he screwed up, he owned it. He wouldn't lie straight to my face.
But then again, he was a snake. So I demanded proof.
Instead, he flipped the script, accusing me of leaving him for someone else.
None of this made sense. I forced myself to take a breath. "Explain. Now." Then I shoved my phone in his face—the damning recording of his so-called affair.
The moment he heard it, his expression went slack. Then his jaw clenched. "That's not me. I'll get it analyzed—you'll see."
But then he pulled out his own evidence—our text history.
As I scrolled through the brutal messages on his screen, then checked my own phone and saw only two cold, clipped exchanges, my blood ran cold.
Someone had taken my phone. Sent those awful words to my husband. Blocked him so I'd never see his replies.
We pieced together the timeline, and he was certain—Vanessa did this.
But I couldn't accept it. Not her. We'd been friends since college. Every hug, every late-night pep talk—had none of it been real?
