Cassian spent two weeks in the hospital. The day after he was discharged, he flew straight to Switzerland.
He'd been standing outside Aurelia's apartment all night.
It wasn't until the next morning that he finally saw her coming out with a little guy in her arms.
Cassian immediately rushed over and grabbed her arm.
"Aurelia! Thank God I found you!"
Aurelia froze, her face instantly hardening.
"Cassian? What the hell are you doing here?"
She'd never expected to see him this soon.
Her plan had been to get Lucien settled in school and stabilize her own job first.
If Cassian still hadn't signed the divorce papers by then, she would fly back to New York and force him to face her.
She hadn't expected him to track her down this quickly.
"Did you come here to discuss the divorce?" Her voice was so cold it could freeze water.
Cassian opened his mouth to explain, but his attention was immediately drawn to the child in her arms.
He stepped closer, his expression softening. "This must be... Lucien?"
Aurelia's heart clenched, her eyes filling with rage.
Without saying another word, she turned and walked away with her son.
Cassian stood there confused for a second, then hurried after her. "Aurelia, wait! Whatever's wrong, we can talk about it! Why are you so angry?"
That question made Aurelia want to laugh and cry at the same time.
He'd stolen her child for four years.
He'd brought his mistress and bastard son into their home to torture her.
And he was still asking why she was angry?
All the fight went out of her at once.
She held Lucien closer and let out a defeated sigh before turning to glare at Cassian.
"Cassian, we're done! Just sign the fucking divorce papers!"
"Aurelia..." Cassian's face crumpled in pain. "Why do you insist on getting divorced? Can't we just be a family again?"
"A family?" Aurelia's laugh was bitter as poison. "And this family of yours—does it include Lucien and me?"
Cassian knew exactly what she meant.
He rubbed his temples, looking tortured. "Aurelia, I know what you're getting at. I found out about everything that psycho bitch Verena did to you."
"I've already called the cops. They're hunting her down as we speak. She will be punished soon."
"Once they catch Verena, I'll send Caleb to boarding school or something, and then I'll bring you and Lucien home to New York. We can be a real family again. Doesn't that sound good?"
"You'd send Caleb away?" Aurelia stared at him in disbelief, her heart breaking all over again.
Caleb was still the little boy they'd raised for four years. Even if he wasn't her biological child, he was still Cassian's son.
And now Cassian was ready to just... abandon him.
God, he really was heartless. Completely selfish!
Years ago, to keep Verena happy and hide his affair, he'd gotten rid of Lucien without hesitation.
Now, to get Aurelia back, he was ready to do the same thing to Caleb.
Devil!
The realization almost made her laugh.
She knelt down and gently touched Lucien's face. "Sweetie, this man says he wants to be your daddy. He could buy you lots of toys and candy. Would you like him to be your father?"
