My fingers were trembling with pure rage.
Perfect. Just fucking perfect. I needed to confront Hunter anyway.
A few minutes later, a black Bentley pulled up right in front of St. Ann's.
"Holy shit..."
"That car's gotta be worth like a million bucks, right?"
"Had no clue Flora's dad was loaded like this!"
The crowd started buzzing with excitement.
My husband Hunter Steven stepped out looking like he owned half of New York.
"Babe!"
Alice threw herself into Hunter's arms, sobbing like the world was ending: "Thank God you're here! I was so scared! It's that crazy bitch over there! She attacked me and screamed at me! She tried to steal our Flora! I've never been so scared in my life!"
The little girl using my daughter's name ran over too: "Daddy! That scary lady barged into our classroom and was yelling at me! She looked so mean! I was so scared! Please protect me, Daddy!"
Hunter wrapped one arm around Alice clinging to him, while gently stroking the girl's hair with his other hand: "Shh, it's okay now, sweetheart. Daddy's here. You're safe. Did that bad lady scare my girls?"
He rubbed the Alice's back softly, then looked down at the girl with the gentlest voice: "Flora, baby, Daddy's here. Nobody's going to hurt you or Mommy ever again."
He looked up, scanning the crowd with ice-cold eyes: "I want to know who the hell had the balls to mess with my family."
His whole performance got the crowd even more worked up. Everyone was staring back and forth between him and me.
They were all waiting to watch this hotshot CEO destroy some random kidnapper who didn't know her place.
After Hunter finished comforting his "wife and daughter," he finally looked over at me, pinned down by the two security guards.
Our eyes met, and his pupils contracted sharply. His expression froze for just a second.
I stared right back at him, refusing to look away.
Come on, Hunter Steven. Keep up the show. Let's see how you plan to "handle" your actual legal wife.
Hunter gently pushed Alice out of his arms and stepped in front of the mother-daughter pair, facing me from a few feet away: "What the hell do you want?"
The entire crowd held its breath. Every eye was glued to us.
"What do I want? Hunter Steven, what the fuck is going on here? Where's my daughter? Where's Flora?"
Everyone froze, their eyes ping-ponging between Hunter and me.
Hunter's expression hardened: "I have no idea what you're talking about! Your daughter? Flora? Lady, you're clearly having some kind of mental breakdown!"
Watching him lie through his teeth like that shattered the last bit of control I had left.
SMACK!
I slapped Hunter hard across his lying face.
Everyone went dead silent. Even that crying Alice stopped sobbing and gawked at me.
"Hunter Steven!"
I pointed right at his nose: "Cut the bullshit act! Where's my daughter?"
Hunter's face turned bright red.
Before anyone could react, he lunged forward and grabbed me by the throat.
"I don't know what the hell you're talking about. I can give you money if that's what you want. Just leave my family the hell alone!"
Then Hunter leaned in close, lowering his voice so only I could hear: "Rachel Morris, you better play along, or you'll never see Flora again."
I stared at him in complete shock.
My own husband was threatening me with our daughter?
