Hunter married into our family. He’s more of a dependent than a partner, honestly.
My parents were against me marrying him from the start. They thought he was a total snake, but I was so blinded by love that I wouldn't listen to their warnings.
When they realized they couldn't change my mind, they agreed to the marriage but with one condition—Hunter had to be a stay-at-home husband and take care of the household.
For years, I've been the breadwinner while he handled domestic stuff. That's why he was always the one dealing with things like school registrations.
I have to hand it to him—he's been putting on this sweet, devoted husband act for so long. I never imagined he'd have the balls to keep a whole other family on the side.
"What exactly is your relationship here?"
One of the teachers couldn't take the suspense anymore and stepped forward.
I was about to blow his cover when Hunter practically threw himself at me, begging under his breath: "Babe, whatever we need to hash out, can we please do it at home? Not here?"
I glanced at him coldly: "Where's Flora?"
His eyes darted away as he squeezed out through gritted teeth: "Flora... Flora is... she's at kindergarten too, just... not here..."
He fumbled with his phone, frantically typing out a message.
A few minutes later, a familiar figure came running over—my actual Flora!
The moment she saw me surrounded by people with my face all swollen, her eyes filled with tears and she ran over crying: "Mommy! Mommy! What happened to you? Did someone hurt you?"
I pulled her into my arms, finally feeling my heart settle back in my chest.
Hunter watched us holding each other tight, then leaned in again: "Honey... look, Flora's here, she's totally fine. Can we wrap this up? All these people watching... airing our dirty laundry like this is embarrassing, and it's not good for Flora either."
"Embarrassing?"
I held my daughter close, finding his words absolutely disgusting: "Now you're worried about being embarrassed?"
"Hunter!"
Alice who'd been ignored completely lost it watching Hunter grovel to me.
She click-clacked over in her heels and grabbed onto Hunter's arm: "Why are you still talking to this bitch? She's completely batshit! Just ignore her!"
She kept pulling on Hunter's arm, trying to drag him away.
But Hunter stood there like a statue. He was waiting for me to speak, waiting for me to decide how this shitshow would end.
His pathetic behavior sent Alice right over the edge.
She let go of Hunter's arm and whirled around to face me, her blood-red nails practically touching my nose:
"What the hell are you staring at?! You shameless fucking whore! Stop obsessing over my husband! I'm warning you, don't think you can just..."
SMACK!
I slapped her perfectly made-up face so hard it echoed.
A perfect handprint appeared on her cheek.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, she let out an ear-splitting shriek:
"You fucking hit me?! Hunter! She hit me right in front of you! Are you blind?! Do something! Call the cops! Get this crazy bitch arrested!"
She was sobbing hysterically, covering her face like I'd tried to murder her.
I stared at her pathetic performance, then looked at Hunter who didn't dare move a muscle: "You expecting him to defend you? You think he has the guts?"
Alice was completely losing her shit over my attitude: "Who the fuck do you think you are?! My husband owns Clearwater Corporation! He's worth over a hundred million!"
"Clearwater Industries CEO?"
"Holy shit! Mr. Steven is that successful!"
"A hundred million! No wonder he drives a Bentley!"
The crowd exploded with amazement and admiration, looking at Hunter with renewed awe.
"Oh really? CEO of Clearwater Industries?"
I laughed coldly, staring at Hunter's ghostly pale face: "Is that how you introduced yourself to your Mrs. Steven?"
