"Yes, I've signed all the surgical consent forms. Rosalind's kidney is a perfect match for Claire. Claire's in acute renal failure—she absolutely cannot die."
"But removing a kidney... your wife will know."
"Then make sure she never finds out. If she asks about the surgical scar, just tell her it's from the car accident."
Rosalind wanted to move, but her entire body had no strength left. She couldn't even open her eyes.
She felt her skin being cut open and her kidney being removed.
Then felt the stitching.
Rosalind's mind flooded with memories of when she was pregnant with Nolan—Asher had knelt down, his lips kissing her belly over and over.
That deep voice full of love:
"Rosalind, I can't bear the thought of stretch marks on your stomach. I massage you with oil every single day. I swear, I'll protect your body."
Back then, Rosalind looked at Asher with pure love in her eyes.
Watching him constantly caress her belly, more focused than he'd ever been on research.
But now, he'd let them cut a long, hideous gash across her stomach.
After what felt like forever, the operating room doors opened.
Rosalind heard footsteps rushing in.
A few steps away, Asher was talking:
"How's Claire doing?"
"Don't worry, Mr. Kemnis. The surgery was a complete success. Miss Fleur had acute renal failure. If anything happens again, Miss Fleur will need the other kidney."
"Rosalind has two kidneys. That works."
Rosalind lay on the operating table, tears streaming down her face, finally lost consciousness again.
So if Claire wanted her life, she had to give it to her!
Rosalind woke up seven days later.
Her son's fever had broken, and his little body was curled up beside her.
The moment he saw her wake up, those dark eyes lit up.
"Mommy, Mommy, you're finally awake! Daddy said you got in a car accident buying me food. It's all my fault..."
Nolan burst into tears, throwing himself on Rosalind and drowning in guilt.
Asher walked over from across the room. His voice was smooth: "Good, you're awake. Nothing serious—you just got hit in the abdomen by the car. Your stomach got cut up pretty bad."
Hearing this, Rosalind didn't respond.
"Asher, my research lab password is your birthday. Go get the computer from inside. I've figured out some new data calculations—I have to fix them before tonight."
Asher's face showed a flicker of emotion.
"Yeah, I set it to the date of our first time sexing."
Rosalind's shaking hands held her son tight.
Asher thought the night Nolan was conceived was important—a day that mattered to their family of three.
But now, none of it mattered anymore.
She needed Asher to personally bring her that computer.
"Get some good sleep. The doctor said you just lost too much blood—you'll be fine with some recovery time. I'll go get the computer."
Then Asher left without looking back.
Rosalind held Nolan close. "Nolan, we can finally leave."
She used Nolan's iwatch to send a message:
"Two hours from now, helicopter departure from London Hospital rooftop."
Asher brought the computer back an hour later. He'd also bought food they both loved.
Asher wanted to feed her personally, but Rosalind turned her head away.
"It's fine, I need to work first."
"Tell me what needs changing, I'll do it." Asher wanted to help.
Rosalind shook her head: "No need. You never worked on this experiment—I'll handle it myself."
Asher stayed with them both.
But Rosalind wasn't actually making changes—she was just killing time.
She was trying to figure out how to get Asher to leave.
Then Asher got a phone call. She heard every word clearly.
"Mr. Kemnis, Miss Fleur woke up looking everywhere for you. She's crying her heart out because she can't find you. Please come quickly."
Asher hung up, his face showing panic.
"Rosalind, there's an emergency at the company. I'll go handle it and be right back."
Watching Asher leave, he paused at the door and turned back: "Rosalind, you and Nolan will always be the most important people in my life. I'll never divorce you. Wait for me."
Wait? Never again.
After Asher left, not long after, they heard helicopter loud sounds outside the window.
The little guy was excited.
"Mommy, we can finally leave!"
Rosalind looked up at the sky outside the window—finally clear.
She got out of bed, the pain in her abdomen sharp and obvious, but she still pushed through it.
One hand holding Nolan's, the other carrying the laptop.
They headed straight outside and finally got on the helicopter.
Her supervisor said: "Rosalind, anything else you need taken care of?"
"Just those two things—give my friend a hundred million, and divorce Asher."
"Sure, no problem. The organization will handle both."
"One more thing I need the organization to do—blow up Kemnis Group's research lab."
All those patents she and Asher had created together would cease to exist. She was cutting all ties with him.
Ten years ago, when she met Asher, she had absolutely nothing.
Now leaving, she had Nolan, she had her dreams.
It's just that in her future world, Asher Kemnis would never exist again!
