The helicopter rotors were thundering.
Everyone in the hospital could hear it.
At that moment, Asher was holding Claire in his arms.
Hearing the helicopter noise, he felt completely off. Like something had been ripped out of his chest—his heart was aching, really fucking aching.
Claire acted all cute in his arms: "Asher, my waist scar is so ugly. Are you gonna be grossed out by me?"
She nuzzled her head against his chest.
But Asher's mind flashed to the scar on Rosalind's abdomen. He'd seen it once after surgery—jagged and horrifying, really long. Rosalind's skin was so pale that the scar looked even more terrifying.
"Asher?"
Seeing something was wrong with Asher, Claire's arms started wrapping around his neck.
But Asher pulled her hands away.
"Claire, you need to rest. I'll be right back."
Asher suddenly felt this urgent need to go check on Rosalind.
Claire's tears immediately started falling.
"Asher, that night you got drunk and pinned me down—did you ever think about what would happen to me after?"
Hearing Claire bring up their first time, Asher's eyes went dark.
That night he'd mistaken her for Rosalind.
And because Claire loved to cry, he'd been even rougher.
"I'm not going. I'll take responsibility for you, Claire. But Rosalind and I have ten years together, and Kemnis Group can't survive without her. She's my biggest asset at work."
Claire whined: "Asher, I want you to love me, only me."
The girl's acting cute worked, and so did her tears. Asher finally stayed until the helicopter sound grew fainter, then completely disappeared.
After Asher saw Claire fall asleep, he told his assistant: "Once Rosalind finishes updating the data, take the computer back to the lab. Claire's emotionally unstable these days, so I won't go downstairs to see Rosalind. Send Nolan to school too. When Claire gets discharged, I'll go find them."
"Yes, sir."
The assistant went downstairs, but soon his phone was ringing.
"Mr. Kemnis, Mrs. Kemnis and young master are gone."
Asher's eyes immediately went ice cold.
"Rosalind's throwing a tantrum? Don't worry about her. She's banged up pretty bad—she'll just find some hospital to recover in. Once she cools off, she'll naturally come back with Nolan."
"Yes, sir."
Asher really didn't take this seriously. Instead, he went back to the room to take good care of Claire.
But half a month passed, and he still hadn't heard Rosalind come begging.
So he dialed Rosalind's number. But all he got was a mechanical voice:
"The number you have dialed is powered off. Please try again later."
Asher then called Nolan's watch phone—same thing.
Then he immediately opened his phone. Nolan's watch had GPS tracking.
But it showed the hospital rooftop.
Asher immediately had his people investigate.
His assistant started digging into what happened two weeks ago.
The security footage showed Rosalind carrying Nolan and the computer straight to the top floor, then they'd left on a helicopter.
Asher was so pissed he smashed his phone.
"Find them! She's all banged up and she dared to run off with our son."
"Mr. Kemnis, Mrs. Kemnis is physically weak—she can't have gotten far. The moment we have news about her and young master, I'll report back immediately."
Asher's eyes were cold: "When you find them, just tell me. I want her on her fucking knees begging me."
