                    CRASH.
Claire's phone shattered as Asher slammed it to the ground.
Those ice-cold eyes stared her down with murder in his gaze.
"Claire Fleur!"
Asher stood up and walked over, his hand wrapping around Claire's throat.
"You're the one who said you'd be my mistress. You're the one who said not to let Rosalind know. You're the one who said you wouldn't wreck my family."
Claire's neck hurt like hell from his grip. But her tears were mixed with laughter.
"Asher, I want you. Why the hell would I be your mistress? I want to be your wife."
Asher was shaking with rage and immediately called his assistant.
"Go pull up everything—all the chat logs, surveillance footage, everything between Claire and Rosalind."
Claire panicked instantly. "Asher, I didn't do anything, really, nothing at all."
But in all the videos and records Asher found:
That time at home, Claire had slapped Nolan first, then Rosalind slapped Claire back twice.
When Claire was alone with Rosalind: She'd deliberately show off her collarbone, or the hickeys on her body, making Rosalind see his betrayal with her own eyes.
And more—Claire never had kidney failure. She just wanted Rosalind's kidney.
And he'd deliberately had that car hit Rosalind to get her kidney for Claire, just so Rosalind wouldn't realize she'd lost one.
Tears started streaming down Asher's face.
"Have Dr. Smith remove the kidney that belongs to Rosalind. And Claire's pregnancy too."
The assistant immediately grabbed Claire when she started struggling frantically.
"Asher, you can't fucking do this to me! This is your baby! How can you just throw it away? My uncle—you promised him you'd look after me! You can't hurt me!"
Asher's eyes were ice-cold.
"Can't? You hurt my wife and my son like this. The Fleur family didn't teach you shit, so I will."
Claire got dragged away, screaming and sobbing.
"Asher, fuck you! You're the one who betrayed Rosalind! What's that got to do with me? You always wanted a woman like me! It's because I showed up that you got ideas! It's you—you're the one who betrayed her!"
Asher was brutal: "No, I've always loved Rosalind. When I was with you, I was looking for pieces of Rosalind. Claire Fleur, I never loved you."
"No! I don't believe it! Asher, you were amazing to me! You gave me everything! You never gave a damn about Rosalind like that!"
"That's because I wanted Rosalind to come ask me for things. I spoiled you with material shit because I wanted Rosalind to pay more attention to me. But that shallow crap? Only you cared about it."
Right then, Asher stomped all over Claire's dignity and Claire finally got dragged away.
In the operating room, a healthy kidney was removed. Asher stared at that kidney, his eyes welling up.
A little while later, the doctor came out.
"Mr. Kemnis, Miss Fleur wasn't pregnant."
Thinking about how Claire had hurt Nolan, Asher's voice went dark: "Remove her uterus. She doesn't deserve to be a mother."
From the operating room came Claire's screams.
"Asher Kemnis, I hope you fucking die in the hell!"
Asher just lit a cigarette, his deep eyes staring at the photo on his phone—used to be full of pictures of Rosalind.
But after getting with Claire, she'd changed his wallpaper to some cartoon background. He'd been annoyed at first, but then he'd gotten pissed because Rosalind's wallpaper was just pictures of their son.
But when Rosalind saw his phone background had changed, she'd just glanced at it.
"Yeah, that's cute." Just a few words to sum up everything.
He felt like he'd punched a pillow. No impact at all.
The operating room doors opened again.
The doctor came out holding something bloody and mangled.
It was Claire's uterus.
Asher just glanced at it, then strode out of the hospital.
The second he got back to the family estate, he dropped to his knees.
His grandfather looked at Asher's anguished state. His voice was heavy: "Asher, you and Rosalind were always meant to be star-crossed."
Asher's voice broke: "Grandpa, did you know what Rosalind was thinking all along?"
His grandfather sighed, then pulled out some documents.
It was something his grandfather had forced Rosalind to sign before the company went public.
It said his grandfather would help Asher's company go public, but Rosalind had to give up all rights to Kemnis assets.
Asher looked at the contract, his eyes bloodshot.
His voice shaking: "Grandpa, why the hell does this exist? Kemnis Group is what Rosalind and I built from the ground up. We didn't need your help."
"The Hill family from overseas was attacking your company back then. They wanted to buy out your special medication. You were supposed to go negotiate, but Rosalind was worried it would be dangerous, so she went instead. Sure enough, they tried to force her into an unfair contract. When she refused, they nearly killed her. I'd been watching out for her, had people following her. Later I personally negotiated with the Hills. Rosalind brought back the contract, and that's how your company went public."
Asher felt like his head was going to explode. He remembered when Rosalind came back that time, she'd had marks on her neck.
But he hadn't noticed anything was wrong, because Rosalind said the marks were from a scarf.
Asher's hands were trembling.
"Grandpa, I had no fucking clue... She gave up everything. Kemnis is worth hundreds of billions, and she didn't want a single penny."
"Asher, do you know about Rosalind's parents?"
"Isn't she an orphan?"
Bowen sighed: "You only scratched the surface."
