I kept my cool, shaking my head. "No, she's not. I don't have a girlfriend."
Serena's face flushed with anger as she shot me a glare.
Sensing the tension, Cyril suddenly cut in, his voice tinged with quiet desperation. "Serena, I think I messed up my leg earlier. It's really killing me now. Could you help me back to my room?"
The crowd had been a madhouse earlier—people scrambling to dodge the stray dog that had plowed through. A few of us had gotten knocked down in the chaos, including me. My ankle still ached from being stomped on more than once.
Serena huffed in frustration, shaking her head at him. "You can't stand noisy places, so why'd you even bother coming?" But despite her complaints, she hooked her arm through his and started steering him toward the farmhouse.
As they passed me, her expression shifted to irritation. She flicked a glance my way and muttered, "Wait here. I'll come find you later."
And just like that, she walked off without a second look.
Stephanie, though, wasn't about to let it slide. She turned to me, curiosity written all over her face. "Albion, what was that about? Why did Serena say she's your girlfriend? What aren't you telling me?"
The throbbing in my foot made it hard to focus. I brushed her off. "She's probably just confused and talking nonsense. Only an idiot would take her seriously."
Like I did. In my past life, I'd been stupid enough to believe she loved me. I carried that delusion all the way to my grave—pathetic.
I didn't say another word and retreated to my room.
But something nagged at me—the memory of being shoved during the chaos. It hadn't been an accident. Someone had pushed me past the safety line on purpose.
The more I thought about it, the clearer it became. Cyril. But why? What was he trying to pull?
Before I could piece it together, a knock came at the door.
Serena stood outside.
This time, I didn't invite her in. Instead, I stepped into the doorway, blocking her path.
She glanced around the empty hallway, lowering her voice. "We need to talk. Let me in."
"No need. Whatever you have to say, say it here. If someone sees you coming into my room, they might get the wrong idea."
Hearing that, she hesitated before finally dropping the idea of stepping inside.
Her expression turned serious as she locked eyes with me. "Albion, what's gotten into you today? Cyril's antics are bad enough, but why are you humoring him?"
"Humoring him?" I gave a faint smile. "I thought it was great. Cyril really cares about you."
I meant every word, but Serena's face darkened like I'd slapped her. Her gaze sharpened, like she was trying to read my mind. "You're not acting like yourself. What's with the sudden change?"
I raised a brow. "What was I like before?"
Her tone softened, and she even let out a small laugh, her mood flipping completely. "You used to get so jealous. You hated other guys near me—always telling me to stay away from them."
