Walking into the house , the scent of sweet pastries filled my nostrils, "hello Mr. Peterson. Welcome home, dinner will be ready soon," his maid says, although I've never seen her before so he might of changed his staff. Turning to face me, "hello Miss, my name is Diana, if you ever need assistance you can ask me."
"Thank you, please call me Alina, and this is my son Leo." I give her a friendly smile and she nods.
"Daddy can you show me my room!" Leo says anxious to see around the house.
"Sure bud, come on."
Nathan signals Leo to follow him as he walks to the stair case, while walking to the stairs I noticed that he still has pictures of me and him hung up, our first date pictures, the time we went hiking, our vacation to Italy, our wedding pictures, the honeymoon pictures and the last picture we took before I left. The picture of me on his lap and him on his birthday smiling with our foreheads pressed against each other staring into the other's eyes. Sweet old memories, soon there will be more. Quickly I catch up to the two of them.
Nathan pulls him into the room two doors down from our old bedroom, when I step in my eyes go wide at what he did for his bedroom. He had a bunch of animal plush toys all over the room with the walls painted a light grey, a toy shelf was in the corner of his room filled with figurines and some books placed neatly on a book shelf. "Wow, this is... amazing."
"Mommy, come on, let's go see what's over there," Leo says taking a hold of my hand and bringing me into the washroom with Nathan behind us. What I didn't notice was that there was a room on the other side of the bathroom. We entered the room, everything in it made me shocked and tear up a bit, it was a gender neutral baby's room...
"What is this Nathan?"
"Well... it was a surprise for before you left. When this room wasn't build yet, I asked the construction crew to throw out your idea for this room to turn it into a room for our future child. Since you left, there was no use of it and Leo is a little too old for it I decided to take the other room for him instead of ruining hard work and keep this for... well future possibilities..." he says nervously.
"Another baby?" Leo asks, he was so smart, being able to catch on in our conversation and we totally forgot that he was in the room.
"Uhm yeah baby. Another little baby." I tell him, this could either end well or end with a bunch of questions that shouldn't be asked by a five year old.
"Where mommy? I want to see a little baby." Unfortunately it might not end well.
I giggle, "no Leo, there isn't any baby. Yet... well so far." Unsure of what to say, I just reply the best I can.
"How about you go play in your room and I'll come and get you so we can ride your new bike after?" Nathan says saving us from a troublesome conversation.
"Okay daddy! Don't be too long." With that being said he dashes back to his room.
Nathan looks back and takes me into his arms, "we have time don't worry about it. Come on let's go unpack in our room."
"Our?"
"Yes it's ours. Now that we are getting back together." He says and I walk towards the door of my old bedroom remembering the location of every single thing.
Nathan enters the room while I stand right in front of the doorway, the memories of that day come rushing back. From the moment I walked into the room going to that grey dresser that me and Nathan bickered on, he wanted it black but I wanted it grey, you can already guess who's won. When I retrieved the little bits and pieces from the bottom of my drawer to place them nicely in his gift bag, the moment I heard this door open thinking back to when I thought it was him.
"Alina?" He says taking me out of memory lane.
"Uh yeah?"
"You can come in, it's okay remember? We're okay," he comes closer to me taking my hand and slowly leading us into the room. "Well... I assume you already know where things are and your bag is in the closet." He tells me and I make my way straight for my old closet.
In the room, my clothes from when we were together are still on the shelves and hanged up... walking closer to it to get a better observation, in the glass clear counter island in the middle, on the left side we're all the jewelry I've ever owned. He kept everything that he's ever given me instead of throwing it in the trash, running my hands on the clear glass counter I comment on it, "you kept all these..?"
"Yes, all the jewelry I've ever gotten you and every possession that you left here. Your clothes are all cleaned and you don't really need to bring clothes next time." It just leaves me shocked just knowing that all these stuff he kept.
"It's like I never left..."
"Well, I was holding on to your stuff because I couldn't get over you. So here I am now blessed to be with you again." He approaches me kissing my forehead and then resting his against mine.
"You're beautiful baby, I love you, always and forever." He says.
"Always and forever," I say tearing up and smiling at him. He brushes his lips against mine slowly pulling me closer to him in need of physical contact.
I wrap my arms around his neck as he leans down closer to me, his hands trace the curves of my body till he reaches my hips. He puts one of his hands on my cheek while the other settles right under my ass. Before this escalates any further, I pull away from him, "we should go, he's been dying to try and bike around for awhile."
"Okay, don't think think this is done though babe." He smirks at me.
"We'll see," I say pulling away and then he smacks my ass playfully. "Oh my god, Nathan! What the hell is wrong with you?" I hate it when he does that, it's not something that I appreciate but he loves my reaction. His smile on his face only annoyed me even more.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he says innocently.
"Stop joking around like that, we can't do this stuff anymore."
"And why is that?" Nathan arches an eyebrow questioning me.
"What if our son walks in on us?"
"It's fine Alina, we know where he is, besides I know he's playing in his room. I'm only doing it when he isn't around. Just relax a bit."
"Okay," I say and we both leave to Leo's room where we find him on the ground playing with small dinosaur figurines. "Hey baby, me and daddy are finished and now we can go ride that new bike of yours.
"Really?" May son's eyes lit up, and I nodded in response.
He didn't have to think twice about running to get his helmet that was placed on the bed by Ben and run towards the stairway where we had came from. Me and Nathan quickly followed behind him, "that kid is so fast, how do you keep up with him everyday?"
"That's what I ask myself everyday too." I chuckle.
We got outside and Ben was already outside just standing and watching Leo. All by himself he puts his helmet on slowly buckling it together, "okay daddy, I'm ready." Leo says getting on his bike, he sits but hesitated before peddling observing the foreign peddles.
He start to press on the bicycle peddles causing him to move slowly, as he got comfortable he started to peddle faster, "look mommy! I'm doing it!" Leo says proud of himself.
"That's great baby! Just be careful and watch where you're going." I tell him so he can focus on what he is doing. Nathan was following him, there wasn't really a busy road because the property had a driveway- well not really a driveway but a huge asphalt area. The concrete was part was the size of a football field, it was so cute watching them together, the father and son bonding was so pure. Being able to melt anyone's heart if they were in sight. "Look at you! You'll be able to bike with no training wheels if you keep it up, you're doing so well."
My son is a quick learner where it takes him a couple of tries to get used to it or learn something. "Mommy, I want to try with no training wheels." He pouts sticking out his bottom lip.
"I don't know... you could get hurt baby." I say.
"But I'm a big boy." He rebutted back, refusing to take no as an answer.
"Aw, come on, the little man wants to try, why not let him?" Nathan asks trying to convince me.
"Nathan, what if he falls and hurts himself badly? What if he falls and hits his head so hard that it will affect him? What if he breaks his arm? Twist his leg? What if—" soon to be cut off by Nathan.
He chuckles, "babe, you're thinking too much about this, don't think too negatively. Look, he's wearing a helmet. All kids learn to bike without training wheels, the worst thing that can happen is that he scrapes himself. You don't need to worry." He rubs my shoulders trying to reassure me, then he looks at Ben, "hey, Ben, what do you think about this?"
"Please, don't involve me Mr. Peterson, she is your wife not mine." Ben says chuckling and I could help but let out a sigh because he was probably going to say the same thing.
"So mommy, can I?"
I huff in defeat, "fine. But you have to be extra careful baby, you got it." I say pointing to him.
"Okay mommy!"
"And you." I narrow my eyes at Nathan, "If anything happens to him you'll be dead."
"Noted." Nathan says with a big smile on his face.
