"Well, Leo will be down soon, I should probably start on breakfast for him." I tell Nathan.
"Do you need any help?" He offers.
"Hmm, I'm just going to make him French toast so I'll be fine, would you like some coffee?"
"Sure." I pour him a glass of coffee.
"Would you like to have breakfast with us?"
"That would be nice... thank you for this and giving me the chance."
"Just don't make me regret it."
The pancakes are finally made, cooked to Leo's liking and perfect timing because I hear his tiny footsteps making it down the stairs quickly. We always ate whatever breakfast he desired on Saturday's, it was like a tradition we stuck to for some reason. I put the food on the dining room table then quickly look down the hall leading to the stairs, but Leo was running straight for me and hugged me. The impact he had made me almost topple over, luckily I was able to keep myself balanced.
"Leo, you have to be careful, I could of fell." I giggle to him and carried him to the counter.
I let him sit on the counter beside Nathan and Leo just looked at me really confused, therefore he started questioning some things. "Mommy, is this boy my daddy?" He asks, sometimes his curiosity and knowledge shocks me.
"Actually, baby, this man is your dad..." I tell him scared of what his reaction would be, at the same time preventing myself from laughing when he referred to Nathan as a boy instead of a man.
"Hey buddy, I'm Nathan, it's nice to meet you," Nathan says nervously because Leo was just staring at us with no facial expression whatsoever which scared me.
"Really?" Leo asks and I nod in response, "I have a dad! I have a dad! Now I can tell Thomas and he won't make fun of me anymore!" He was so happy about this, and it seemed like something to celebrate. My baby is happy, that's what I needed for awhile, having him sad because his father wasn't in the picture was upsetting.
"How about we all do something fun today?" Nathan asks him.
"Can we go to the zoo?" Leo's face lit up, he always tried to make me bring him to the zoo. No matter how many times we went he would always want to go back.
"Sure bud, just ask your mom first."
"Mommy! Can we please go to the zoo with my daddy?" He asks and his joy emitted off of him to me.
"Okay lets have fun today, how about you get changed and we can go?" He nods, "I left your clothes on your desk for you!" I yell as he dashes off.
"He called me his dad..." Nathan says and a huge smile appears on his face, "I'm a dad!" He yells hugging me and spinning me around.
"I can see where Leo gets his excitement for things from," I chuckle at his behaviour. "Okay now put me down so I can get some stuff prepared and we can leave."
After grabbing a few things, Nathan lead us out to his grey Lamborghini, I'm not too surprised that he was still interested in these crazy expensive cars. That was all he liked, expensive and over the top things. His lifestyle was always different compared to mine, but you learnto compromise and adapt when you're in love. "Wait, I need to get Leo's car seat," I tell him.
"Don't worry I've already got one."
"What? How did you know that we would be going out today?"
"I was just taking a chance," he smirks.
I help Leo into the car and Nathan pulls out of my driveway, heading in the direction of the zoo, I turned on the radio because Leo enjoys all type of music, he is my little rockstar. I connect to the bluetooth speaker to play music, "Mommy! Can you play the song you always sing to me?"
"Which one baby? I always sing you a bunch of songs," he always listens to me sing before bed. although let me say that I am no professional.
"The 'love me tender' one mommy," he tells me.
"Okay, give me a second let me find it first." I turn on the music once the song turns on I hum to the melody.
"Sing Mommy! Please, can you sing our song?" He insists, I can'tever say no to those beautiful pure eyes that blesses me everyday with love.
Nathan gives me a quick glance with a smile, he used to tell me all the time how he enjoyed my singing and caught me a few times singing by myself. It always soothed Nathan to hear me sing, he said my voice was calm which can bring peace to anyone. He probably was just saying that because I was his girlfriend and to make me feel better. "I've missed your singing so much, please enlighten me with your beautiful voice."
I turn to Leo to see him nodding his head in agreement, I've always sang this song to Leo because it was always a part of me and Nathan. I've wanted him to have a memory passed of mine passed down subtly to him and it made me happy that this song connected us together in unexplainable ways. The nights where we would listen to this song dancing, cuddling or even at dinner to reminisce about memories never even having the thought of us being just... memories. This was our special song, when Nathan made a CD with all of our favourite songs for me, you can already guess what the first song was. This song had been a piece of Nathan for me, we played it at our wedding when we danced and everytime one of us were feeling down.
I started to sing the song, Leo looked really relaxed and Nathan held my hand taking the risk of me pulling it away, but I knew that this song had hit all our soft spot. When the song came to an end, all of us were silent, "I still love this song since the first time we heard it."
"Same with me, it's been awhile," it's been so long since I listened to it with him like how it all started.
Nathan pulls up into the parking lot and the place is crowded with people,it is so busy today, nothing like we've ever seen before. "Okay, we're here."
"Yay! I can't wait to see the animals Mommy!" Leo exclaims excitedly, he always enjoyed going to the zoo or even doing something fun.
"Yes baby, we are going to go in, but please stay near me or your dad because there are too many people, and I don't want you to get lost okay?"
"Yes mommy."
"Okay then, now we can go in," I say and we all get out of the car.
When I get out of the car I got out to open the door for Leo, he climbs out of the car grabbing on to my hand to lead me to the entrance and grabs Nathan hand as well. Nathan was shocked but clearly enjoying his son's affection towards him. "Hurry, mommy!" Leo tells me.
I can't help but giggle, "Leo, the animals aren't going anywhere, we have a day to see all of them."
We get into the park looking around at all the different animals, this was like a dream come true where the father of my child spend some quality time with my child. God, my child was such a gift and I love him so much. "Mommy! after can we go on the boat?"
"Sure, how about we go around and do the other things first and then we can do that at the end of the day?" I suggest so we can accomplish all that he'dlike before we go onto the little tour boat.
"Okay mommy," he says and dashes off to the section with the rhinoceroses, they were his favourite animal for some reason.
As Leo stuck around us watching all the different animals, me and Nathan were left alone. "So... Do you have any plans tonight?"
"Not really, nothing is really planned out for us..."
"Have dinner with me."
I chuckle, "Nathan, we've haven't seen each other in many years-"
"Just hear me out, we've haven't seen each other in a couple of years. It gives us a good reason to go out for dinner so we can catch up, before you say that Leo is with us, he clearly entertains himself quite easily by reading or whatever, and I'll drive you guys home in time for his bedtime. When he gets put to bed, you can make the choice if you want to keep chatting or not. There is no harm in that whatsoever." He starts congratulating himself, "damn, I guess debates in school really did pay off..." Nathan looks back at me, "go ahead negative, try and rebuttal my affirmative points." He smirked, but I was at a list of words. He planned things out perfectly leaving me no room to complain, I couldn't help but smile at his funny lists and explanation.
"Fine, but we are going home for eight because Leo has to go to bed at eight thirty." I say.
"Yes ma'am," he reply's jokingly.
