"You sick bastard!" My scream ripped through the dank warehouse air, raw and unfiltered. The ropes bit into my wrists, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the white-hot fury coursing through my veins. "Why, Gabriel? Why publish that article? Why release the video?!"
Gabriel lounged against a corroded metal table, arms crossed, that trademark smirk twisting his features. "What's wrong, Amanda?" he purred, voice dripping with venom. "Afraid Bryant will dump you now? Let's be real - no man wants damaged goods like you."
My hands balled into fists so tight my nails drew blood. "You're dead wrong. Bryant loves me. He'll see right through your bullshit."
Gabriel's laugh echoed like shattering glass. "Love? Oh sweet, naive Amanda." He pulled out his phone, fingers dancing across the screen. "Let's test that theory, shall we? I'll send him the rest of our little home movies. Then we'll see how much your precious Bryant really cares."
"No!" I thrashed against my restraints, the chair legs screeching against concrete. "Don't you dare!"
His grin turned feral as he flashed me the screen - a folder of videos sent, Bryant's name lighting up with an incoming call.
"Pick it up!" I demanded, voice cracking with rage.
Gabriel's thumb hovered mockingly before powering off the device. "Not happening, princess," he sneered. "You're mine now. If I have to keep you chained up to keep Bryant away, so be-"
The door burst open, cutting him off. Nadia sauntered in balancing a food tray, her eyes glittering with cruel amusement. "Look at you," she cooed, "right back where you belong - powerless and pathetic." She dumped the tray, sending slop splattering across the filthy floor. "Dinner's served, pig."
I spat at her designer shoes. "You're disgusting."
Her smile vanished. In a flash, she yanked my head back by the hair. "You stole everything from me!" she shrieked. "My family! My life! Now you'll burn with me!"
As she ranted, my fingers closed around the fallen fork. With every ounce of strength, I drove it into her side.
Nadia's scream pierced the air as crimson bloomed across her blouse. Gabriel froze, face draining of color. "Nadia!" He rushed to her just as my foot connected with his groin.
While he crumpled, I bolted. Adrenaline turned my limbs to liquid fire as I plowed through one thug, nails scraping for the exit.
The cocking of a pistol froze me mid-step.
"Don't move," a voice growled.
I raised shaking hands, squeezing my eyes shut as tears spilled over. The gunshot's roar left my ears ringing.
But instead of pain, I was engulfed in familiar warmth.
"Jesus Christ," Bryant gasped against my hair, his arms vise-like around me.
I blinked through tears to see his face - relief and rage warring in his stormy eyes. "You're safe now," he murmured, crushing me to his chest.
All the tension left my body at once as I dissolved into shuddering sobs against him.
