"The contract for selling the house to our company is ready. There won't be any surprises," said the representative from Bard Property. "I'll contact the owner of that villa right away and prepare the relevant documents.
"If things go smoothly, you could come over this afternoon to sign the contract. I suggest you prepare the down payment now so we can handle all the paperwork in one go."
Wesley instinctively glanced at Athena.
Athena gave a reassuring nod. "I can have the 1 million dollars ready by today."
Wesley replied on the phone, "Alright, we'll start preparing now."
The voice on the other end paused for a split moment before saying, "Mr. Donovan, our company is currently seeking high-level executives. I understand you have a background in civil engineering and have held leadership positions in both government agencies and global enterprises. With your excellent reputation, we believe you could be the talent our company is looking for.
"If you're willing, you could join us as a General Manager, with a one-year probation period and an annual salary of 120 thousand dollars. If you perform well, we can consider an early confirmation with an annual salary of 200 thousand dollars. Would you be interested in giving it a try?"
The Donovan family exchanged looks, feeling a sense of disbelief. An annual salary of 120 thousand dollars was nearly equivalent to the family's total earnings from their restaurant for a year. Moreover, the restaurant was a family effort, whereas this job would be a single person's income.
It felt like their luck was turning around. Wesley was tempted. His eyes lit up with excitement, and he straightened his posture. However, after a moment of quick thinking, he shook his head. "I haven't worked in a company for over ten years. I'm afraid I might not be up to it..."
"Mr. Donovan, there's no need to rush your decision," the person on the line responded in a polite tone. "You can take your time to consider, discuss it with your family, and then give me your answer. I can assure you that we will give you ample time to adapt to the new role and arrange for you to visit other real estate companies and attend some professional courses.
"Rather than experience, we value your character, diligence, and sense of responsibility. We've done our research and have great confidence in you."
Wesley was a little touched by what he heard. After hesitating for a few seconds, he replied, "Thank you for the encouragement. I'll consider it."
"Alright, I'll get back to work. I look forward to your response," said the voice on the other end before hanging up.
Wesley turned to his family. "What do you all think? Should I accept this job?"
Claire and the others were silent for a moment. They were undoubtedly thrilled for Wesley and sincerely hoped he could achieve great things and realize his potential. Yet, they worried that the job might be very demanding for his age.
"Dad, I think you should take the chance," Athena said earnestly. "Although I'm only 18, I've met many elites and executives from different industries. Honestly, I don't think you're inferior to them at all. If they can do it, why can't you? Besides, how will you know if it's possible if you don't try?"
