When he saw Athena enter, Matthew put down his sister's hand and stood up. He said politely, "Dr. Annie, good morning."
Athena nodded and did not say anything. She observed Matthew first. Seeing that he looked good and energetic, she looked at Lucy.
The wound on Lucy's head healed a little more. She did not look like she had just undergone surgery a few days ago. Her face wasn't as pale as before. She just needed a little bit of makeup to look good.
Athena flipped through the latest medical report and asked, "How long did your sister wake up last night? Did she say anything? How's her mood?"
Matthew said, "My sister woke up three to four times in a row. The longest time was ten minutes, and the shortest was only ten seconds. Sometimes she doesn't open her eyes, but her fingers move. She only said a few words. I did tell her a lot. I think she could hear everything I said."
Under the mask, Athena smiled. "Your sister is fine now. She just needs to rest well. I've prescribed some new medicine for her. Make sure she takes it in time. She should be recovered within a year."
"Thank you, Dr. Annie." Matthew looked at her deeply. "I'll bring my sister back to Valemont City to attend the press conference this afternoon. I hope she'll be able to make a short speech. Can you prescribe something for her?"
After that, he added, "I mentioned this to my sister. She said she had to go."
Athena thought for a moment and asked Freya to get two traditional medicines. "Take the big one half an hour in advance. It'll keep her awake and in a good mental state, but it can only last for half an hour at most. After it's over, let her take the small one. It'll help with her sleep."
Matthew took the medicine solemnly. "Thank you, Dr. Annie."
Athena adjusted her glasses. "We should go back. I'll get Freya to contact you about the car." Then, without another word, she turned around and left.
Matthew did not ask her to stay or say anything more. He just sent her to the courtyard, watched her and her people get into the car, and then watched her leave.
Louis adjusted his glasses and said in a low voice, "Mr. Graham, don't you think Dr. Annie looks a little similar to Miss Donovan? Our people find out that Miss Donovan has a twin sister. Do you think it could be Dr. Annie?"
Matthew glanced at him expressionlessly. "I checked before I came here. On the night Dr. Annie arrived in Dichester, Athena left Donovan's house. It's said that she went to the mountains with the scientific expedition team to collect scientific data and won't return within a week. Her phone has been switched off since that night. I can't reach her."
"Huh?" Louis widened his eyes and kept adjusting his glasses. "You mean, Miss Athena is... Dr. Annie?"
Matthew said calmly, "You can think whatever you want, but don't tell anyone. I don't want anyone to target her for now."
The elders in the Graham family were already in their 80s and 90s. They were all trying to live longer.
If Dr. Annie's identity was exposed, who knew how many rich old men who were afraid of death would look for her.
Louis also thought of something and nodded. "I understand."
Matthew did not say anything else. He returned to the ward and sat on the sofa beside the bed. He held Lucy's hand, closed his eyes, and said slowly, "Lucy, do you still remember how Mom died? It was Dad's forty-sixth birthday. We held a big birthday party and there came many guests..."
Lucy's hands trembled violently when he talked about his mother's death. Then, his entire body trembled, and he let out muffled and painful murmurs.
Matthew continued to recount the past that was engraved in the siblings' bones.
Only extreme pain could wake Lucy up completely.
