Athena's face instantly burned. Her heart raced. She covered her burning face and thought seriously for a bit before saying, "I only returned home in the evening. You don't know, but my mother's cooking is delicious. I had a good meal.
"Also, I watched your family's press conference just now. You're too conspicuous, so I don't miss you." Then, she thought for a moment and added, "I may only miss you tomorrow."
Matthew chuckled softly, "Thanks. When I'm done here, I'll treat you. Hopefully, you'll agree."
Athena replied, "Alright."
Speaking of which, Matthew had already said he would treat her to several meals. Athena wondered how long it would take to finish them. Then, she thought of something. "Is your sister alright?"
Matthew replied, "Lucy is asleep. There shouldn't be any major problems for now."
Athena asked, "Will you let her stay in Valemont City?"
Athena disapproved of Lucy staying in Valemont City. Valemont City was too chaotic so it was not suitable for Lucy to recuperate.
"No," Matthew smiled, "I'll send her away tomorrow morning. I definitely won't let the Graham family find her."
Athena felt that Matthew was indeed very smart. "I also think that is better for your sister."
Silence fell again.
Athena pursed her lips and puffed up her cheeks. The feeling of wanting to tell Matthew about many things but not knowing what to say rose in her again. She felt a little uncomfortable holding them in.
A few seconds later, Matthew's low voice sounded. "Miss Donovan, thanks for what happened tonight."
Before Athena could answer, he added, "It's my honor to meet you. I need to go now. Good night." With that, he hung up.
Athena reminisced about Matthew's low and magnetic voice. It felt like a breeze on a summer night. It crept in through the gap in the curtains and surrounded her, caressing her gently. It made her tingle with sweetness and contentment.
After the call, Matthew returned to his usual indifference. He walked back to the entrance of the building and looked at the black car that was slowly approaching.
The black car stopped in front of him. A tall woman with long black hair, a white dress, and a mask got out. She grabbed his sleeve and followed him into the building.
The door of the building closed. The tall slender woman never left.
This scene was seen by the people watching Matthew secretly.
On the other side, Athena waited for her heart to calm down. She walked out of the room and glanced at the room diagonally opposite. It was almost 10:30 pm. She wondered why Maria wasn't back yet.
After some thought, Athena called Maria.
The background noise on Maria's side was very lively. It sounded like she was at a diner.
"Maria, where are you now?" Athena asked. "Do you want me to pick you up?"
"No need," Maria hurriedly said, "I'm having supper with a reliable friend outside. I'll be back later. I've already told Dad and Mom. You don't have to worry."
When Maria finished, Athena heard a young man's voice from the other end of the phone. "Hello, you're Maria's sister, right? I'm Maria's friend. Maria interviewed for three jobs today. One of them lasted late and she didn't have time to eat dinner. I happened to be shopping nearby and treated her to supper.
"She's tired now, and she's had some beer. I wanted to send her back but she said she'd moved. She wouldn't tell me where she's living now and insisted on riding her motorbike back."
Athena made a prompt decision. "Tell me where you are. I'll pick Maria up now."
The young man said politely, "Freeman Road, Seafood Nest."
Athena thanked him, picked up her car keys, and left.
Freeman Road was a little far from their house. However, there was no traffic now. Athena would be able to make the trip to and back quickly.
