Athena was deep in conversation on her phone, completely unaware of the young woman and little girl who had just entered the residential area.
The little girl's eyes immediately lit up when she saw Athena. She stopped in her tracks, pointed excitedly, and called out in a bright, innocent voice, "Athena!"
The older girl quickly noticed Athena too and immediately hushed the little girl beside her, gently covering her mouth. "Remember, we promised not to let her see us until she has got along well with Mom and Dad first," she whispered softly.
When Maria Donovan first saw Athena, she was convinced—Athena had to be the sister they lost 18 years ago. Athena's features were an unmistakable blend of their parents, leaving no doubt in Maria's mind that she was a Donovan.
The little girl Josie Donovan blinked up at Maria and obediently nodded.
Only after Athena drove away did Maria release her hold on Josie and pat her head.
"Mom just texted me. She said Athena's kind and thoughtful. She didn't care that our house is small and run-down; she even said she'd visit us again," Maria said, relief flooding her voice.
Josie smiled at Maria and tugged on her clothes. "Maria, do you think Athena will like me?"
Maria knelt down, looking into Josie's eyes, and reassured her, "Athena is wonderful. I'm sure she'll adore you!"
Josie blushed, hiding her face with her hands as she giggled. Maria's heart melted at the sight. "Are you hungry, Josie?" she asked, picking her up.
"Mom said there are plenty of leftovers, including your favorite shrimp and a special baked pasta just for you. Want to eat?" Maria continued.
"Yes!" Josie's voice rang out with joy, eagerly agreeing.
"Let's go home and have a nice meal," Maria said, adjusting her pace while carrying Josie, then quickening her steps as they neared their house.
Neither of them noticed Louis, who was about to start his car. He had overheard their conversation.
"Miss Donovan has sisters? And nine siblings? Well, isn't that something," he muttered to himself, making a mental note to dig into it later as he started his SUV.
Meanwhile, as Athena left the Donovan home, Andrew and Zoe were on their way back to the Kennedy family's villa.
Today marked Andrew's official return to the Kennedys. The family had invited several relatives over for dinner to introduce Andrew, and the household had been buzzing with activity all morning.
Decorations were going up, the place was being cleaned—everything was in full swing, preparing for the evening's festivities.
Zoe had expected to walk into a lively scene, with servants lined up to greet her and Andrew, showing them the respect she believed they deserved.
But instead, an eerie silence greeted them as they walked through the gate. Not a soul was in sight. It wasn't until they pushed open the front door that they heard Isaac's furious voice echoing through the house.
"What the hell am I paying you for?" Isaac barked into his phone, his voice dripping with rage. "I don't care how you do it, but you'd better fix this—or don't even think about working in Kitmore City again!"
Zoe and Andrew exchanged uneasy glances before stepping into the foyer. They found Isaac pacing back and forth in the living room, phone glued to his ear, hand angrily gesturing as he fired off orders. He was clearly fuming.
