Matthew's voice was very gentle as he said reassuringly, "I'm fine. Go to sleep. Good night."
Athena anxiously called, "Wait! Tell me where you are! I'll come find you or call the ambulance for you."
"Miss Donovan, I'm really fine. When I'm free in a few days, I'll definitely treat you to a meal at Kitmore City," Matthew replied.
Athena did not waste time talking to him. She opened a software on her phone and stalled for time. "What? Wait a minute. I didn't turn on the lights just now and bumped against the wall. I didn't hear what you were saying. Tell me again. Where are you? What are you doing?"
Matthew's voice was so low that she could barely hear him. "I said I'm fine. I won't disturb you anymore." After that, Matthew started coughing.
Athena repeated, "Hey, the signal here is not good. Say it again."
Matthew uttered, "Miss Donovan, goodbye."
He hung up.
However, Athena had already found his location.
It was already so late, but he had actually appeared on the east side of the Rivergate Bridge in the suburbs of Valemont City. It was more than 50 miles away from the city center. Something was indeed wrong.
Athena made a quick decision, dressed, and drove straight to Rivergate Bridge.
Her location was over 90 miles from Rivergate Bridge, which seemed quite far, but her car was in excellent condition, her driving skills were top-notch, and the early morning roads were very clear.
After leaving the city at the maximum speed limit, she immediately accelerated, speeding towards her destination at over 60 miles per hour.
The scene at the Rivergate Bridge was one of devastation.
There were injuries everywhere and the sound of wailing filled the air.
Matthew's face was covered in blood. He sat on top of the three thugs and looked at the black phone screen. He muttered, "It's out of battery. I can't call Louis. If I had known, I wouldn't have thrown all your phones into the river. Forget it, I'll sleep in the car first. I'll talk when I wake up."
The wound on his head had stopped bleeding, but he was very sleepy and very tired. He was also very dizzy, and his vision was getting blurry.
He definitely could not drive like this.
He lazily stood up, swayed unsteadily back to the car, sat in the driver's seat, closed the door, then took a clean towel and draped it over his head. Leaning back, he closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
Due to feeling dizzy, he slept restlessly, his body still feeling hot. He might have a fever.
It seemed there was a first aid kit in the car, and the kit might contain fever-reducing medication, but he did not want to move.
He decided to endure it for now. After all, he was young and healthy; he could take the medication once he woke up.
While he was in a daze, he suddenly heard a series of knocking sounds. It was so loud that he could not sleep.
He opened his eyes in a daze and saw a face appear outside the cracked car window.
The light of the headlights reflected on that face. That face was so dazzling.
Was it Miss Donovan?
Matthew sobered up a little.
However, how could Miss Donovan appear here?
It must be because his mind was filled with Miss Donovan that he was hallucinating.
The knocking on the window became even louder. The person outside even shone a flashlight into his eyes.
He did not feel the glare through the bulletproof glass, but he sobered up a little, knowing there really was someone outside the window.
So he gripped the handle and opened the car door.
Miss Donovan's face appeared in front of him with a worried expression. "Can you speak?"
She then placed her hand on his forehead and said nervously, "Oh, you have a fever. I'll feed you medicine first."
