After thinking it over, Luna headed upstairs, grabbed a few snacks, and quietly took a seat behind the woman to watch her.
Linda was on the phone. Even though she tried to keep her voice down, her anger made her speak louder than she meant to. "I'm staying in Raverot Town for a while. I'll start by getting close to Jaden's grandparents, then work my way back into Jaden's life," she said.
Then she added, "If Jaden comes back to me, the villa in the west is yours. But if not, don't expect a single cent. You're the reason I lost him, and I haven't let that go. So don't push me."
With that, she hung up and quickly dialed another number. This time, her voice turned sweet. "Shiloh, how are you and Spencer doing overseas? Be careful, alright? Make sure you listen to your teacher and follow the tour guide's instructions. If you need money, just let Mom know, okay?"
Luna sat there, speechless. 'Wow, this woman really knows how to play the game', she thought. 'Jaden's life is about to get real messy'.
And since Jaden had been so nice to her, Luna figured it was only fair to give him a heads-up.
The next morning, just as she was about to head to Oxhorn Village, she got a call from Horace. "Let the experts handle the location," he said, his tone serious. "If you don't come back soon, I'll bring Lindsey and come find you."
Luna sighed. "Give me one more day. If I can't change his mind today, I'll come back, I promise."
With that, she drove to the village, where she found Jaden leading some agricultural bots to water the fields. The cool morning breeze felt refreshing as she walked behind him, feeling surprisingly good.
"I ran into your ex-fiancée at the Seasons Garden Hotel," she said casually. "I overheard her on the phone, saying she's planning to stay in town for a while and start by cozying up to your grandparents—"
Before Luna could finish, Jaden spun around, his usually calm eyes now filled with a sharp, dangerous edge. "She said that?"
Luna was taken aback by the intensity of his gaze but quickly nodded. "Yeah, she did."
She went on to explain everything she had overheard the night before. Jaden listened in silence, then turned to stare at the distant mountains, saying nothing for a long time.
Luna couldn't see his face clearly, but the silence was getting awkward, so she tried to lighten the mood with a half-joking comment, "That info's pretty valuable, right? How about saying yes to my request as a thank you?"
She wasn't expecting much. Jaden struck her as someone who seemed laid-back but was firm when it came down to his decision. She didn't think he would budge.
But to her surprise, Jaden turned back and replied, "Sure, I'll ask my family now. If they're good with it, we can go over the details."
Luna blinked in disbelief. "Seriously? You're agreeing just like that? Don't you need a few days to think it over?"
She suddenly wondered if this guy had been playing hard to get all along, letting her chase after him on purpose.
