Linda showed up with gifts, ready to bribe her way in and maybe charm the staff, but they weren't having any of it. "I'm related to the Donovan family," she said, trying to slip past. "I just want to visit them. Let me in for a bit."
The staff had been given strict orders to keep an eye out for her. "If you're really their relative, how come you don't know they've already moved? Except for Jaden, who might come by soon, the rest of the family moved into the city. They're not coming back."
Linda blinked, surprised. "They moved? Where in the city?"
The staff, clearly losing patience, shrugged. "If you don't know, why would we? Now please leave. We've got work to do."
With no other option, Linda wandered around asking the villagers. They all told her the same thing, "Jaden took on the contract for the barren land here and hired an engineering team to develop it. The old house isn't good for recovering, so the family packed up and won't be living here anymore."
That was the version Jaden gave the village. Only the Donovan family knew the real story.
Out of options, Linda drove back to Kitmore City and went to Vlento Court, but after knocking for ages, no one opened the door.
As it got dark, and still no sign of anyone, she asked some neighbors. "Wesley's family moved out," they told her. "They rented a bigger place. Wesley still works for Bard Property, though, so sometimes he comes back for lunch or to stay the night."
However, no one had any clue where the Donovans had moved.
Too nervous to face Wesley, Linda then tried calling Jaden. The moment he heard her voice, he blocked her before she could even say a word. Frustrated, Linda had no choice but to wait outside Mid-Level Mountain Garden.
Linda had a plan. She was going to show that "bitch" the photos of Jaden flirting with another woman out in the countryside, hoping to spark a fight and get them to break up.
Little did she knew, the "bitch" she was after had already taken Jaden's grandparents to the hospital and was preparing for surgeries. So, Linda's wait at Mid-Level Mountain Garden was all for nothing.
Athena had been at the hospital for a week, spending the first few days nursing the grandparents back to health. By the fourth and fifth days, she performed surgeries on both Fiona and Cade, and then spent the next few days making sure they recovered well.
She was preparing to do a cornea transplant on Fiona, which was risky given Fiona's age who reached 80s, but thanks to the research team, they had developed special corneas for her. Athena was confident she could restore most of Fiona's sight.
Cade's surgery was just as challenging. He had been dealing with severe cerebral artery sclerosis for years, and medications had not been effective, so he had to undergo cerebral vascular stent surgery. The family was hesitant to try surgery due to the risks involved, especially considering his age and other health issues like hemiplegia. But when Athena reassured them that Dr. Annie herself would handle the operation, they finally gave the go-ahead.
Throughout that week, Dr. Annie only showed up during the surgeries. The rest of the time, she stayed behind the scenes. When she did appear, she was always in full medical gear—white coat, surgical mask, hat, and glasses—moving quickly and saying little. None of the Donovan family even recognized her.
